El aceite de las lamparas

Mt 25, 1-13

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos esta parábola: "El Reino de los cielos es semejante a diez jóvenes, que tomando sus lámparas, salieron al encuentro del esposo. Cinco de ellas eran descuidadas y cinco, previsoras. Las descuidadas llevaron sus lámparas, pero no llevaron aceite para llenarlas de nuevo; las previsoras, en cambio, llevaron cada una un frasco de aceite junto con su lámpara. Como el esposo tardaba, les entró sueño a todas y se durmieron.

A medianoche se oyó un grito: '¡Ya viene el esposo! ¡Salgan a su encuentro!' Se levantaron entonces todas aquellas jóvenes y se pusieron a preparar sus lámparas, y las descuidadas dijeron a las previsoras: 'Dennos un poco de su aceite, porque nuestras lámparas se están apagando'. Las previsoras les contestaron: 'No, porque no va a alcanzar para ustedes y para nosotras. Vayan mejor a donde lo venden y cómprenlo'.

Mientras aquéllas iban a comprarlo, llegó el esposo, y las que estaban listas entraron con él al banquete de bodas y se cerró la puerta. Más tarde llegaron las otras jóvenes y dijeron: 'Señor, señor, ábrenos'. Pero él les respondió: 'Yo les aseguro que no las conozco'.

Estén pues, preparados, porque no saben ni el día ni la hora''

Jesus told his disciples this parable:
"The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins
who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 
Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps,
brought no oil with them,
but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. 
Since the bridegroom was long delayed,
they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
At midnight, there was a cry,
'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' 
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. 
The foolish ones said to the wise,
'Give us some of your oil,
for our lamps are going out.' 
But the wise ones replied,
'No, for there may not be enough for us and you.
Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.' 
While they went off to buy it,
the bridegroom came
and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. 
Then the door was locked.
Afterwards the other virgins came and said,
'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!' 
But he said in reply,
'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.' 
Therefore, stay awake,
for you know neither the day nor the hour."

Meditacion:

Ayer hablabamos de vivir en un estado de presente constante, sabiendo que Jesus puede tocarnos el hombro en cualquier momento. Y hoy el evangelio nos vuelve a reforzar la idea... no se duerman, no se desvien, tengan siempre la idea de llegar a Dios.

La formula es muy simple y se basa en tres cosas: oracion, servicio a los demas y trabajo.

No podemos tener una sin tener la otra. la oracion ilumina la vida, la contemplacion constante de nuestra vida con examenes de conciencia diarios nos ayudara a ir puliendo esas pequeñas cosas del temperamento que todos tenemos; el trabajo nos dignifica y ayuda a mantenernos y mantener nuestras familias y a nosotros mismos y la ayuda constante a los demas es como (en palabras de San Crisostomo) el aceite que ilumina nuestras lamparas.

Para mantenernos equilibrados en estos tres puntos, debemos vivir una vida sencilla, austera y concentrada en el servicio a los demas. No es mas que eso; el resto es un agregado. 

Si dejamos que el Espíritu Santo nos inspire interiormente a través de la oración, el arrepentimiento y la Palabra de Dios, seremos capaces de realizar “el bien que Dios ha dispuesto que hagamos” (Efesios 2, 10). San Juan Crisóstomo dijo que el aceite de las lámparas de las vírgenes era las “limosnas, [y la] ayuda a los necesitados” (Homilía sobre San Mateo, 78). Cuando servimos a los necesitados y ayudamos a los desamparados, nos encontramos con Jesús, que también está en ellos.

El trabajo de preparación es mínimo comparado con lo que el Señor hace en nosotros. Él nos da todo lo necesario para estar bien dispuestos para encontrarnos con él y así lo ha prometido. A nosotros nos toca ahora, pues, cumplir nuestra parte y vivir de un modo fiel, motivados por el amor y la verdad, a fin de que un día lleguemos a aquel lugar que el Señor tiene preparado para sus fieles (v. Juan 14, 3).

“Señor, tú eres mi luz y mi salvación. Ilumina mi alma, mi mente y mi corazón, para que yo también sea luz para los que no te conocen y así haya otros que lleguen a salvarse por tu acción en mí.” Amen

If we allow the Holy Spirit to inspire us inwardly through prayer, repentance and the Word of God, we will be able to do "the good that God has made us do" (Ephesians 2, 10). St. John Chrysostom said that the oil of the lamps of the virgins was "alms, [and] helps the needy" (Homily on St. Matthew, 78). When we serve the needy and help the homeless, we find Jesus, who is also in them.

The preparation work is minimal compared to what the Lord does in us. He gives us everything necessary to be well disposed to meet him and so he has promised. It is up to us, then, to fulfill our part and live faithfully, motivated by love and truth, so that one day we will reach the place that the Lord has prepared for his faithful (v. John 14, 3).

"Lord, you are my light and my salvation. Illuminate my soul, my mind and my heart, so that I too may be light for those who do not know you and so there may be others who may be saved by your action in me. "Amen
