Bendita tu eres...

Lc 1, 39-56

En aquellos días, María se encaminó presurosa a un pueblo de las montañas de Judea y, entrando en la casa de Zacarías, saludó a Isabel. En cuanto ésta oyó el saludo de María, la creatura saltó en su seno.

Entonces Isabel quedó llena del Espíritu Santo, y levantando la voz, exclamó: “¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres y bendito el fruto de tu vientre! ¿Quién soy yo para que la madre de mi Señor venga a verme? Apenas llegó tu saludo a mis oídos, el niño saltó de gozo en mi seno. Dichosa tú, que has creído, porque se cumplirá cuanto te fue anunciado de parte del Señor”.

Entonces dijo María:
“Mi alma glorifica al Señor
y mi espíritu se llena de júbilo en Dios, mi salvador,
porque puso sus ojos en la humildad de su esclava.

Desde ahora me llamarán dichosa todas las generaciones,
porque ha hecho en mí grandes cosas el que todo lo puede.
Santo es su nombre
y su misericordia llega de generación en generación 
a los que lo temen.

Ha hecho sentir el poder de su brazo:
dispersó a los de corazón altanero,
destronó a los potentados 
y exaltó a los humildes.
A los hambrientos los colmó de bienes
y a los ricos los despidió sin nada.

Acordándose de su misericordia,
vino en ayuda de Israel, su siervo,
como lo había prometido a nuestros padres,
a Abraham y a su descendencia,
para siempre”.

María permaneció con Isabel unos tres meses, y luego regresó a su casa.

Mary remained with her about three months
and then returned to her home.

Meditacion:

Hoy el evangelio nos trae este pasaje tan bello pero tambien tan cotidiano.

Si tuvieramos que reducirlo a su minima expresion, diriamos "se juntaron unas primas que estaban embarazadas" y, de una manera muy latina hasta diriamos "a contar chismes"

Pero las embarazadas que se juntaban eran Isabel y Maria, una, madre de Juan El Bautista, el ultimo profeta, el que abriria la puerta para que luego Jesus llegara con su mensaje y Maria, la madre de Jesus.

Dicen los pediatras que los primeros tres meses de embarazo son los mas complicado para el niño por nacer, es cuando hay mas probabilidades de perder el embarazo, hasta el punto que la mayoria de las parejas prefieren no contar a nadie sobre el tema hasta que haya pasado ese tiempo.

No nos dice el evangelio de cuanto tiempo estaba cada una embarazada; la historia conjetura que Juan El Bautista era mayor que Jesus, tal vez, solo por unos meses pero ya desde el vientre reconoce a Jesus que aun esta en el vientre de su madre.

Y se produce este encuentro maravilloso donde Isabel exclama:

“¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres y bendito el fruto de tu vientre! ¿Quién soy yo para que la madre de mi Señor venga a verme? Apenas llegó tu saludo a mis oídos, el niño saltó de gozo en mi seno. Dichosa tú, que has creído, porque se cumplirá cuanto te fue anunciado de parte del Señor”.

Y Maria responde con ese canto tan bello que es el Magnificat, una expresion pura, simple pero llena de amor al Padre, una reafirmacion total de la confianza que Maria tiene en Dios y un agradecimiento eterno por permitirle cumplir con las escrituras.

Como ven es un encuentro diriamos cotidiano pero a la vez, nos encontramos con un toque de cielo.

En una semana estare en una ordenacion en Dallas; un nuevo sacerdote que decidio decirle un Si! enorme a Dios y entregar su vida, asi como Maria la entrego.

Nuevamente, sera un momento cotidiano para los que no lo comprenden pero con un toque de cielo y eternidad.

Hermanos hoy viernes los invito a reflexionar sobre esos "toques de cielo", esos momentos donde Dios se hace presente en nuestras vidas de una manera casi palpable.

Y si queremos mas momentos como esos, volvamonos sensible a la Palabra de Dios y, sobre todo, a sus hermanos.

“Dios todopoderoso, que inspiraste en la Virgen María el deseo de visitar a su prima Isabel, concédeme, te lo ruego, ser dócil al Espíritu para que yo también cante tus maravillas.” Amen

And this marvelous encounter takes place where Isabel exclaims:

"Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Who am I so that the mother of my Lord may come to see me? As soon as your greeting reached my ears, the child jumped for joy in my breast. Blessed are you, who have believed because everything that was announced to you by the Lord will be fulfilled. "

And Maria responds with that beautiful song that is the Magnificat, a pure expression, simple but full of love for the Father, a total reaffirmation of the trust that Mary has in God and eternal gratitude for allowing her to fulfill the scriptures.

As you can see, it is a meeting we would say daily but at the same time, we find ourselves with a touch of heaven.

In a week I'll be in a Priest ordination in Dallas; a new priest who decided to tell him a Yes! huge to God and give his life, just as Maria gave it.

Again, it will be a daily moment for those who do not understand it but with a touch of heaven and eternity.

Brothers Friday I invite you to reflect on those "touches of heaven", those moments where God is present in our lives in an almost palpable way.

Estan confundidos

Jn 16, 16-20

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Dentro de poco tiempo ya no me verán; y dentro de otro poco me volverán a ver”. Algunos de sus discípulos se preguntaban unos a otros: “¿Qué querrá decir con eso de que: ‘Dentro de poco tiempo ya no me verán, y dentro de otro poco me volverán a ver’, y con eso de que: ‘Me voy al Padre’?” Y se decían: “¿Qué significa ese ‘un poco’? No entendemos lo que quiere decir”.

Jesús comprendió que querían preguntarle algo y les dijo: “Están confundidos porque les he dicho: ‘Dentro de poco tiempo ya no me verán y dentro de otro poco me volverán a ver’. Les aseguro que ustedes llorarán y se entristecerán, mientras el mundo se alegrará. Ustedes estarán tristes, pero su tristeza se transformará en alegría”.

Meditacion:

Los apóstoles no siempre comprendían lo que Jesús les explicaba, pero confiaban en él, en su persona y estaban a su lado. “No entendemos lo que dice”, se lee en el evangelio de hoy. Y es que para entender a Jesús primero hay que quererle. Sin darnos cuenta, nos acostumbramos a vivir de manera rutinaria y repetitiva. Nos falta la alegría de quienes viven alimentándose de su Palabra  y dando gracias cada día de haberle conocido. Jesús es nuestro Señor, nuestro Salvador, nuestro mejor Amigo que nunca falla. Él nos lleva de la mano hasta el Padre.

Jesús les anuncia que están llamados a dar a luz un mundo nuevo, basado en el amor y guiado por el Espíritu Santo. El dar a luz produce un sufrimiento, pero acaba en una alegría inmensa. Este momento está cercano, casi a la mano. Van a tener valor para enfrentar todas las dificultades que se presenten, porque Jesús está con ellos como el Padre ha estado siempre con Jesús.

Pero cuando falta el seguimiento de Jesús, cuidado y reafirmado una y otra vez en el propio corazón y en la comunidad cristiana, nuestra fe corre el riesgo de quedar reducida a una aceptación de creencias, de costumbres, de palabras que no entendemos.

Es fácil entonces instalarnos en algunas prácticas religiosas, sin dejarnos cuestionar por las llamadas que Jesús nos hace desde el evangelio que leemos cada día. Sólo seremos sus discípulos si le damos el abrazo de la fe.

Hermanos seguir y amar a Jesus es questionarse muchas cosas, cambiar, reconocer al hermano pobre, aceptarlo y amarlo con sus limitaciones.

No podemos solo, pidamos al Padre nos ilumine para poder avanzar en el camino de elevacion que nos llevara a ser mejores cada dia.

“Señor Jesucristo, Rey y Soberano mío, te alabo y te bendigo y te entrego mi vida en tus santas y venerables manos para tu mayor gloria y para la salvación mía y de mis seres queridos.” Amen

It is easy then to settle in some religious practices, without being questioned by the calls that Jesus makes to us from the Gospel that we read every day. We will only be his disciples if we give him the embrace of faith.

Espiritu Santo 3

Jn 16, 12-15

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Aún tengo muchas cosas que decirles, pero todavía no las pueden comprender. Pero cuando venga el Espíritu de la verdad, él los irá guiando hasta la verdad plena, porque no hablará por su cuenta, sino que dirá lo que haya oído y les anunciará las cosas que van a suceder. Él me glorificará, porque primero recibirá de mí lo que les vaya comunicando. Todo lo que tiene el Padre es mío. Por eso he dicho que tomará de lo mío y se lo comunicará a ustedes".

Meditacion:

En el evangelio de hoy Jesus anuncia el Espiritu Santo no como alguien que les traera mas conocimiento sino como alguien que les ayudara a entender, a ser firmes en la fe y el conocimiento.

No les ha pasado muchas veces leer algo en el evangelio o, sencillamente, comprender de repente un pasaje, una parabola que por años no les decia nada?

Ese es el Espiritu Santo susurrandonos en nuestra alma.  Es el Espiritu Santo el que nos impulsa al amor al Padre, el Espíritu de Dios nos revela a Cristo, el camino, la verdad y la vida, para que sigamos sus pasos. Muchas veces tenemos preocupaciones, dificultades en la familia, el trabajo o la escuela; enfermedades y relaciones problemáticas con amigos o parientes, y queremos que Dios nos dé respuestas y soluciones específicas. Lo que el Espíritu quiere hacer es revelarnos a Jesús, para que en él encontremos el apoyo, la guía y las respuestas que buscamos.

Mucho es lo que podemos aprender acerca de Dios, pero solo por el Espíritu Santo somos capaces de conocer personalmente a Cristo, y recibir su vida y su verdad en el corazón. El Espíritu nos da la revelación, no solo a nivel intelectual, sino en lo más íntimo de nuestro ser. Porque si pudiéramos conocer a Dios solo con la inteligencia humana, ¿para qué necesitaríamos que el Espíritu nos condujera a la verdad divina?

Dios desea comunicarnos sus verdades mediante la revelación espiritual. Ya nos ha enseñado mucho en la Escritura, tanto que nos extrañamos de que aparentemente esa verdad dé tan pocos frutos de santidad y fidelidad. Una de las razones de esto es que por lo general no buscamos la sabiduría del cielo ni esperamos que Dios nos enseñe.

Un grave peligro actual es que no dedicamos tiempo para hacer oración ni para estudiar la Sagrada Escritura, y no esperamos que el Espíritu Santo nos instruya. Es demasiado lo que nos fiamos de nuestros propios razonamientos, o de los criterios de la sociedad en la que vivimos, que de hecho están oscurecidos y retorcidos por el pecado, y rechazamos la Palabra de Dios cuando ésta no coincide con lo que nos dicta el mundo. Esto es algo que debemos cambiar lo más pronto posible, a fin de que el Espíritu Santo pueda actuar libremente en nuestro corazón.

That is the Holy Spirit whispering in our soul. It is the Holy Spirit who impels us to love the Father, the Spirit of God reveals Christ, the way, the truth and the life, so that we may follow in his footsteps. Many times we have worries, difficulties in the family, work or school; diseases and problematic relationships with friends or relatives, and we want God to give us specific answers and solutions. What the Spirit wants to do is reveal ourselves to Jesus, so that in him we can find the support, the guidance and the answers we are looking for.

There is much we can learn about God, but only through the Holy Spirit are we able to personally know Christ, and receive his life and his truth in our hearts. The Spirit gives us revelation, not only on the intellectual level, but in the most intimate part of our being. Because if we could know God only with human intelligence, why would we need the Spirit to lead us to divine truth?

God wants to communicate his truths through spiritual revelation. He has already taught us much in Scripture, so much so that we wonder that apparently that truth gives so few fruits of holiness and faithfulness. One of the reasons for this is that we do not usually seek the wisdom of heaven or expect God to teach us.

A serious current danger is that we do not spend time to pray or study the Sacred Scripture, and we do not expect the Holy Spirit to instruct us. Meditacion:

En la primera lectura de hoy dia, el libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles narra cómo sufrieron los apóstoles y sus colaboradores para difundir la Palabra de Dios por el mundo. La lectura de hoy nos explica que después de golpear con varas a Pablo y Silas, los encerraron sin juicio alguno en la cárcel como si fueran los peores criminales. Lo sorprendente es que ellos no se desesperan y hasta cantan himnos en la oscuridad de la prisión.

¿Cuál fue el resultado de la oración de estos apóstoles? El carcelero y toda su familia se arrepintieron de sus pecados, se convirtieron y aceptaron a Jesús como Señor y Salvador.

Todos ellos experimentaron la conversión porque Pablo y Silas se preocuparon más de la propagación de la Palabra de Dios que de lo que les sucedía a ellos en esos momentos.

En algunas areas de nuestro planeta, no es dificil imaginar una situacion parecida, debido a la persecucion que hoy dia sufrimos todas las denominaciones cristianas y catolicas.

Seriamos nosotros capaces de entregar nuestra vida hasta el punto de sufrir carcel y torturas?

Creo que es algo que debe ser contestado de la mano del Espiritu Santo del que nos sigue hablando Jesus en el evangelio de hoy.

Jesús nos ha prometido la fuerza de lo alto, es decir al Espíritu Santo, que mora en el corazón de cada uno de nosotros. ¡Y sus promesas se cumplen!

¿Ha cambiado algo en la tierra con la entrada de Jesús en la gloria del Padre? Exteriormente, nada. La vida sigue igual: tiempo de sembrar y de cosechar, de comerciar, de construir casas, de viajar, de llorar y reír, todo como antes. Ni siquiera los Apóstoles han salido favorecidos a la hora de experimentar, como todas las demás personas, dramas y angustias. Sin embargo, algo increíblemente nuevo ha sucedido: todo parece lo mismo, pero es distinto el modo de verlo y de vivirlo. Porque el que tiene fe de verdad ve el mundo con ojos nuevos. Todo está impregnado de sentido, nada entristece, nada asusta. Nuestra fuerza no está en nosotros, sino en el Espíritu Santo que mora en nuestro corazón. La luz de la fe nos ayuda a descubrir más allá de las desgracias, la miseria y los errores humanos,  la mano del Señor que construye su reino.

“Padre eterno, que eres generoso y compasivo con todos tus hijos, ayúdame a llevar a otras personas a la conversión. Ven, Espíritu Santo, y derrama tu poder sobre todos los creyentes.” Amen

Life is the same: time to sow and harvest, to trade, to build houses, to travel, to cry and laugh, everything as before. Not even the Apostles have been favored when it comes to experiencing, like all other people, dramas and anguish. However, something incredibly new has happened: everything seems the same, but the way of seeing it and of living it is different. Because he who has true faith sees the world with new eyes. Everything is impregnated with meaning, nothing saddens, nothing frightens. Our strength is not in us, but in the Holy Spirit that dwells in our hearts. Meditacion:

Hoy comenzamos la semana siguiendo en esta reflexion este largo discurso de despedida de Jesus, lleno de recomendaciones y confidencias.

Y hoy Jesus nombra al Espiritu Paraclito, el Espiritu de la Verdad y El dara testimonio de mi.

No falta mucho para que durante Pentecostes, el 9 de Junio, recordemos la venida del Espiritu Santo.

Y luego les sigue recordando que seran perseguidos y muertos po su causa.

El dramatismo del momento crece cuando Jesús anuncia a los suyos los sufrimientos que les esperan y les dice: “Os excomulgarán de la sinagoga; más aún, llegará incluso una hora cuando el que os dé muerte pensará que da culto a Dios”.

Ser excomulgado de la sinagoga era algo muy grave, pues era como declararle a uno enemigo número de la comunidad. Era el desprecio más grande que podía sufrir un judío, pues la sinagoga era el lugar donde la comunidad se reunía para rezar.

Y el desprecio llega al colmo, dice Jesús,  cuando “el que os dé muerte piense que da culto a Dios”. Los cristianos hemos nacido a los pies de la cruz y con la mirada clavada en el crucificado. Y esto es precisamente lo que Jesús quiere, que sus seguidores no olvidemos sus palabras: “si a mí me han perseguido también a vosotros os perseguirán”.

Seguramente más de una vez hemos experimentado burlas y desprecios porque intentamos ser coherentes con nuestra fe y no cedemos ante la tentación o el desprecio de los demás. 

Hay lugares donde también hoy día los cristianos son perseguidos y asesinados porque se han reunido el día de Pascua para celebrar la santa misa, como ha sucedido en Sri Lanka en la última fiesta de Pascua.

Jesús previene  a sus discípulos y a nosotros para que supieramos que teníamos que buscar la presencia del Espíritu en su interior, y no dejar que los principios del mundo y sus propias ideas llegaran a dominarnos. Si así lo hacíamos, estaríamos protegidos para no desviarnos. Tenemos el Espíritu de Dios en nuestro interior y si nos entregamos del todo a él, podremos vencer todo tipo de pruebas y tentaciones.

“Señor, Espíritu Santo, concédeme la gracia de aceptar y hacer la voluntad de Dios para su gloria, para la edificación de la Iglesia y para la felicidad eterna mía y de los míos.” Amen

Today we begin the week following in this reflection this long farewell speech of Jesus, full of recommendations and confidences.

And today Jesus names the Spirit Paraclete, the Spirit of Truth and He will give testimony of me.

It is not long before Pentecost, on June 9, we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit.

And then he keeps reminding them that they will be persecuted and killed by his cause.

The drama of the moment grows when Jesus announces to his people the sufferings that await them and says: "They will excommunicate you from the synagogue; moreover, there will come even an hour when the one who kills you will think that he is worshiping God. "

To be excommunicated from the synagogue was something very serious, because it was like declaring a number enemy of the community. It was the greatest contempt that a Jew could suffer, since the synagogue was the place where the community gathered to pray.

And contempt reaches its height, says Jesus, when "he who gives you death thinks he is worshiping God." We Christians are born at the foot of the cross and with our eyes fixed on the crucified one. And this is precisely what Jesus wants, that his followers do not forget his words: "If they persecuted me they will persecute you".

Surely more than once we have experienced ridicule and contempt because we try to be coherent with our faith and do not give in to the temptation or contempt of others.

There are places where Christians are also persecuted and killed because they have gathered on Easter Sunday to celebrate Holy Mass, as happened in Sri Lanka at the last Passover feast.

Jesus warned his disciples and us to know that we had to seek the presence of the Spirit within them, and not let the principles of the world and their own ideas come to dominate us. If we did that, we would be protected so as not to deviate. We have the Spirit of God within us and if we give ourselves completely to him, we can overcome all kinds of trials and temptations.

"Lord, Holy Spirit, grant me the grace to accept and do God's will for his glory, for the edification of the Church and for the eternal happiness of mine and mine." Amen

Perseguidos y odiados

Jn 15, 18-21

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Si el mundo los odia, sepan que me ha odiado a mí antes que a ustedes. Si fueran del mundo, el mundo los amaría como cosa suya; pero el mundo los odia porque no son del mundo, pues al elegirlos, yo los he separado del mundo.

Acuérdense de lo que les dije: 'El siervo no es superior a su señor'. Si a mí me han perseguido, también a ustedes los perseguirán, y el caso que han hecho de mis palabras lo harán de las de ustedes. Todo esto se lo van a hacer por mi causa, pues no conocen a aquel que me envió".

GospelJN 15:18-21

Jesus said to his disciples:
"If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own;
but because you do not belong to the world,
and I have chosen you out of the world,
the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you,
'No slave is greater than his master.'
If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,
because they do not know the one who sent me."

Meditacion:

A nadie le gusta que le digan que es odiado; sin embargo, sabemos que, para los cristianos en muchas partes del mundo y a veces en nuestros propios países, esta es una cruda realidad. Ahora más que nunca, los cristianos son víctimas de odio y persecución violenta.

Las razones de este odio son contrarias a la lógica. ¿Por qué hay gente que odia a quienes quieren darles a conocer un Dios que es todo amor, perdón y misericordia? En algunos casos, es porque los que nos decimos cristianos no siempre actuamos como tales, y la gente está siempre muy atenta a ver si hacemos lo que decimos.

En otros casos, los que afirman odiar a los cristianos pueden estar, en realidad, buscando respuestas a las incógnitas de su propia vida. Como dice el refrán “los heridos hieren a otros.” Quizás han estado privados de amor o han sido víctimas de abuso o tratos injustos por mucho tiempo. Pero si estas personas supieran que Dios es en realidad un Padre maravilloso y todo amor, quizás podrían abrir el corazón y ser transformados en personas renovadas, alegres y amables. Y aquí es donde entramos nosotros. Jesús nos mandó amar a nuestros enemigos y orar por ellos (v. Mateo 5, 44) y esto lo podemos hacer mucho mejor si no consideramos que los demás son enemigos, aunque así sea como ellos nos vean a nosotros.

¿Cómo sería tu vida si tú nunca hubieras recibido el perdón de Dios en la Confesión o si solo hubieras oído alguna vez de Cristo, pero nunca hubieras experimentado su amor? Aquellos que nos odian también son hermanos nuestros; solo que ellos no le han abierto la puerta a Jesús.

¿Cómo reaccionas tú cuando alguien te critica por ser católico? Es fácil quejarse, y condenar resulta casi natural, pero tú no tienes que sentir amor para rezar por esa persona. A veces basta con sonreír cuando tienes ganas de responder con aspereza. El mejor modo de reaccionar cuando alguien expresa odio, desconfianza o animosidad contra el cristianismo es mostrarle exactamente lo opuesto.

“Señor, bendice a aquellos que odian y persiguen a mis hermanos en la fe y ¡envíales tu Espíritu para que encuentren lo que realmente buscan: tu misericordia!”

Today we reflect with "The word among us":
Nobody likes to be told that he is hated; however, we know that, for Christians in many parts of the world and sometimes in our own countries, this is a harsh reality. Now more than ever, Christians are victims of hatred and violent persecution.

The reasons for this hatred are contrary to logic. Why are there people who hate those who want to make them know a God who is all love, forgiveness and mercy? In some cases, it is because those of us who call ourselves Christians do not always act as such, and people are always very attentive to see if we do what we say.

In other cases, those who claim to hate Christians may, in fact, be looking for answers to the unknowns of their own lives. As the saying goes "the wounded hurt others." Perhaps they have been deprived of love or have been victims of abuse or unfair treatment for a long time. But if these people knew that God is really a wonderful Father and all love, perhaps they could open their hearts and be transformed into renewed, happy and kind people. And this is where we come in. Jesus commanded us to love our enemies and pray for them (see Matthew 5:44) and we can do much better if we do not consider that others are enemies, even though they may see us.

What would your life be like if you had never received God's forgiveness in Confession or if you had only ever heard of Christ, but never experienced his love? Those who hate us are also our brothers; only that they have not opened the door to Jesus.

How do you react when someone criticizes you for being a Catholic? It is easy to complain, and to condemn is almost natural, but you do not have to feel love to pray for that person. Sometimes it is enough to smile when you feel like responding harshly. The best way to react when someone expresses hatred, distrust or animosity against Christianity is to show you exactly the opposite.


"Lord, bless those who hate and persecute my brothers in the faith and send them your Spirit so that they find what they really seek: your mercy!"
