Lc 4, 16-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado. Entró en la sinagoga, como era su costumbre hacerlo los sábados, y se levantó para hacer la lectura. Se le dio el volumen del profeta Isaías, lo desenrolló y encontró el pasaje en que estaba escrito: El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha ungido para llevar a los pobres la buena nueva, para anunciar la liberación a los cautivos y la curación a los ciegos, para dar libertad a los oprimidos y proclamar el año de gracia del Señor.

Enrolló el volumen, lo devolvió al encargado y se sentó. Los ojos de todos los asistentes a la sinagoga estaban fijos en él. Entonces comenzó a hablar, diciendo: “Hoy mismo se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura, que ustedes acaban de oír”.

Todos le daban su aprobación y admiraban la sabiduría de las palabras que salían de sus labios, y se preguntaban: “¿No es éste el hijo de José?”

Jesús les dijo: “Seguramente me dirán aquel refrán: ‘Médico, cúrate a ti mismo, y haz aquí, en tu propia tierra, todos esos prodigios que hemos oído que has hecho en Cafarnaúm’ ”.

Y añadió: “Yo les aseguro que nadie es profeta en su tierra. Había ciertamente en Israel muchas viudas en los tiempos de Elías, cuando faltó la lluvia durante tres años y medio, y hubo un hambre terrible en todo el país; sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viuda que vivía en Sarepta, ciudad de Sidón. Había muchos leprosos en Israel, en tiempos del profeta Eliseo; sin embargo, ninguno de ellos fue curado sino Naamán, que era de Siria”.

Al oír esto, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se llenaron de ira, y levantándose, lo sacaron de la ciudad y lo llevaron hasta una barranca del monte, sobre el que estaba construida la ciudad, para despeñarlo. Pero él, pasando por en medio de ellos, se alejó de allí.

LK 4:16-30

Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll,
he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
And all spoke highly of him
and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.
They also asked, “Is this not the son of Joseph?”
He said to them, “Surely you will quote me this proverb,
‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say, ‘Do here in your native place
the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.’”
And he said,
“Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you,
there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah
when the sky was closed for three and a half years
and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent,
but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel
during the time of Elisha the prophet;
yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”
When the people in the synagogue heard this,
they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town,
and led him to the brow of the hill
on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away.

Meditacion:

El Evangelio de este día ya lo dice todo. Es un pequeño compendio de la vida de Jesús en una sola historia: la historia del momento en que vuelve a su pueblo y allí expone lo fundamental de su mensaje. Como hacen los políticos y los que asumen un cargo al comienzo de su mandato, también Jesús puso de manifiesto lo que quería ser y hacer en su vida. Lo suyo se expresaba perfectamente en las palabras del profeta Isaías: “El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque él me ha ungido. Me ha enviado para anunciar el Evangelio a los pobres, para anunciar a los cautivos la libertad, y a los ciegos la vista; para dar libertad a los oprimidos, para anunciar el año de gracia del Señor.” Tan bien expresado estaba que a continuación pronunció la homilía más breve de la historia: “Hoy se cumple esta Escritura que acabáis de oír.”

No había necesidad de decir más. Su pueblo (Nazaret, Israel o el mundo entero) le escuchaba. Y no se hizo esperar la reacción habitual. ¡Cómo iba a ser éste el Mesías! Le conocían. Conocían a su familia. No podía ser. El Mesías, el enviado de Dios, se tenía que presentar no en medio de la normalidad sino de lo extraordinario. Con algún milagro portentoso. Con una luz alrededor como un aura. Con mejores vestidos y con una corte alrededor. En conclusión: rodeado de poder y gloria. 

Pero Jesús no estuvo rodeado de poder y gloria. Para nada. Lo suyo fue la normalidad. Uno más entre nosotros. Tocando a los enfermos, hablando con todos –también con los oficialmente impuros y pecadores–, mostrando incluso en ocasiones su debilidad. Jesús es Dios que se hace carne con todas las limitaciones que eso conlleva. Y eso no lo podían aceptar. No podían entender que Dios no se manifestase según la idea que ellos tenían de Dios. No estaban a abiertos a la sorpresa que siempre es Dios, porque va más allá de todo lo que podamos imaginar. 

Conviene que releamos el texto de Isaías. En él reconocemos a Jesús. En él reconocemos a los verdaderos discípulos, a los verdaderos profetas. Son los que, como Jesús, como Dios, están cerca de los que sufren de cualquier manera, son los que trabajan por la justicia y por la libertad, por la reconciliación y el perdón. Ahí está presente Jesús, ahí está Dios. Ahí está la salvación que se nos regala en Jesús.

“Espíritu Santo, Señor, brilla a través de mí, te lo ruego, y moldéame.”

Today's Gospel already says it all. It is a small compendium of the life of Jesus in a single story: the story of the moment when he returned to his town and there exposes the fundamentals of his message. Like politicians and those who take office at the beginning of his term, Jesus also revealed what he wanted to be and do in his life. His was perfectly expressed in the words of the prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me. He has sent me to proclaim the Gospel to the poor, to proclaim freedom to captives, and sight to the blind; to give freedom to the oppressed, to announce the Lord's year of grace. " So well expressed was he that he then delivered the shortest homily in history: "Today this Scripture that you have just heard is fulfilled."

There was no need to say more. His people (Nazareth, Israel or the whole world) listened to him. And the usual reaction was not long in coming. How could this be the Messiah! They knew him. They knew his family. It couldn't be. The Messiah, the envoy of God, had to appear not in the midst of normality but of the extraordinary. With some portentous miracle. With a light around like an aura. With better dresses and with a court around. In conclusion: surrounded by power and glory.

But Jesus was not surrounded by power and glory. Not at all. Theirs was normality. One more between us. Touching the sick, talking to everyone –also with the officially impure and sinful–, even showing their weakness at times. Jesus is God who becomes flesh with all the limitations that this entails. And that they could not accept. They could not understand why God did not manifest himself according to their idea of ​​God. They were not open to the surprise that God is always, because it goes beyond anything we can imagine.

We should reread the text of Isaiah. In him we recognize Jesus. In him we recognize the true disciples, the true prophets. They are those who, like Jesus, like God, are close to those who suffer in any way, they are the ones who work for justice and freedom, for reconciliation and forgiveness. There is Jesus present, there is God. There is the salvation that is given to us in Jesus.

"Holy Spirit, Lord, shine through me, I beg you, and mold me."

San Juan El Bautista

Mc 6, 17-29

En aquel tiempo, Herodes había mandado apresar a Juan el Bautista y lo había metido y encadenado en la cárcel. Herodes se había casado con Herodías, esposa de su hermano Filipo, y Juan le decía: “No te está permitido tener por mujer a la esposa de tu hermano”. Por eso Herodes lo mandó encarcelar.

Herodías sentía por ello gran rencor contra Juan y quería quitarle la vida, pero no sabía cómo, porque Herodes miraba con respeto a Juan, pues sabía que era un hombre recto y santo, y lo tenía custodiado. Cuando lo oía hablar, quedaba desconcertado, pero le gustaba escucharlo.

La ocasión llegó cuando Herodes dio un banquete a su corte, a sus oficiales y a la gente principal de Galilea, con motivo de su cumpleaños. La hija de Herodías bailó durante la fiesta y su baile les gustó mucho a Herodes y a sus invitados. El rey le dijo entonces a la joven: “Pídeme lo que quieras y yo te lo daré”. Y le juró varias veces: “Te daré lo que me pidas, aunque sea la mitad de mi reino”.

Ella fue a preguntarle a su madre: “¿Qué le pido?” Su madre le contestó: “La cabeza de Juan el Bautista”. Volvió ella inmediatamente junto al rey y le dijo: “Quiero que me des ahora mismo, en una charola, la cabeza de Juan el Bautista”.

El rey se puso muy triste, pero debido a su juramento y a los convidados, no quiso desairar a la joven, y enseguida mandó a un verdugo que trajera la cabeza de Juan. El verdugo fue, lo decapitó en la cárcel, trajo la cabeza en una charola, se la entregó a la joven y ella se la entregó a su madre.

Al enterarse de esto, los discípulos de Juan fueron a recoger el cadáver y lo sepultaron.

MK 6:17-29

Herod was the one who had John the Baptist arrested and bound in prison
on account of Herodias, 
the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.
John had said to Herod,
“It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Herodias harbored a grudge against him
and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.
Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man,
and kept him in custody.
When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed,
yet he liked to listen to him.
She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday,
gave a banquet for his courtiers,
his military officers, and the leading men of Galilee.
Herodias’ own daughter came in
and performed a dance that delighted Herod and his guests.
The king said to the girl,
“Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you.”
He even swore many things to her,
“I will grant you whatever you ask of me,
even to half of my kingdom.”
She went out and said to her mother,
“What shall I ask for?”
She replied, “The head of John the Baptist.”
The girl hurried back to the king’s presence and made her request,
“I want you to give me at once
on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”
The king was deeply distressed,
but because of his oaths and the guests
he did not wish to break his word to her.
So he promptly dispatched an executioner with orders
to bring back his head.
He went off and beheaded him in the prison.
He brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl.
The girl in turn gave it to her mother.
When his disciples heard about it,
they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Meditacion:

Hoy celebramos la fiesta de uno de los grandes héroes de nuestra fe: San Juan Bautista, precursor de Cristo, quien proclamaba: “Preparen el camino del Señor” (Marcos 1, 3).

Juan no dudó en decir la verdad a los poderosos, incluso cuando eso le costó su libertad y su vida. Pero a veces nosotros olvidamos que él no era un predicador solitario que andaba en el desierto. La Biblia dice varias veces que Juan tenía sus propios discípulos. Cuando se encontraba en prisión, envió a sus discípulos a confirmar si Jesús era el Mesías (Mateo 11, 2; Lucas 7, 18). Al momento de su muerte, los discípulos de Juan recogieron su cuerpo y le dieron sepultura (Marcos 6, 29). ¡Cuánto deben haberlo amado! Es posible que también lo visitaran en prisión y lo animaran mientras él se encontraba encadenado.

Esta es una de las razones ocultas por las cuales Juan nos inspira tanto. Él no intentó hacer las cosas por su cuenta. A pesar de lo fuerte que era y de la fe que tenía, sabía que necesitaba ayuda, y la aceptó gustoso.

Juan puede ser un modelo para cada uno de nosotros. Todos necesitamos amigos creyentes que fortalezcan nuestra fe, y nos acompañen en cosas simples, como ir a Misa o rezar el rosario; que se alegren por las bendiciones que recibimos y compartan nuestro dolor en los sufrimientos; que nos visiten en el hospital o nos reconforten cuando nos acercamos a la hora de la muerte. Seguir al Señor no es algo que uno deba hacer solo, y compañeros como estos pueden hacernos el viaje mucho más fácil y más alegre.

Por supuesto, la amistad espiritual no es una vía en un solo sentido. Incluso cuando alguien te brinda compañía, tu apertura y tu fe pueden animar a esa persona, y también puedes apoyarlo cuando tenga necesidad y regocijarte con él en sus éxitos.

Así que piensa en la gente que tienes cerca. Muchos de ellos van contigo en el viaje de la fe. ¿Cómo te están apoyando? ¿Cómo puedes apoyarlos tú a ellos? Una llamada telefónica, un almuerzo o una invitación para ir a Misa juntos puede tener buenos resultados. Tú puedes seguir los pasos de Juan el Bautista y seguir al Señor con tus propios compañeros.

Today we celebrate the feast of one of the great heroes of our faith: Saint John the Baptist, forerunner of Christ, who proclaimed: “Prepare the way of the Lord” (Mark 1, 3).

Juan did not hesitate to speak the truth to the powerful, even when it cost him his freedom and his life. But sometimes we forget that he was not a lonely preacher walking in the desert. The Bible says several times that John had his own disciples. When he was in prison, he sent his disciples to confirm whether Jesus was the Messiah (Matthew 11, 2; Luke 7, 18). At the time of his death, John's disciples picked up his body and buried him (Mark 6:29). How much they must have loved him! It is possible that they also visited him in prison and encouraged him while he was in chains.

This is one of the hidden reasons why John inspires us so much. He didn't try to do things on his own. Despite how strong he was and how much faith he had, he knew he needed help, and he gladly accepted it.

Juan can be a model for each one of us. We all need believing friends who strengthen our faith, and accompany us in simple things, such as going to Mass or praying the rosary; that they rejoice for the blessings we receive and share our pain in the sufferings; to visit us in the hospital or comfort us as we approach death. Following the Lord is not something one should do alone, and companions like these can make the journey much easier and more joyful.

Of course, spiritual friendship is not a one-way street. Even when someone is keeping you company, your openness and your faith can encourage that person, and you can also support them when they are in need and rejoice with them in their successes.

So think about the people around you. Many of them go with you on the journey of faith. How are they supporting you? How can you support them? A phone call, lunch, or an invitation to go to Mass together can have good results. You can follow in the footsteps of John the Baptist and follow the Lord with your own companions.

"Saint John the Baptist, pray for me that I remain faithful until the end." Amen

Mt 25, 1-13

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos esta parábola: “El Reino de los cielos es semejante a diez jóvenes, que tomando sus lámparas, salieron al encuentro del esposo. Cinco de ellas eran descuidadas y cinco, previsoras. Las descuidadas llevaron sus lámparas, pero no llevaron aceite para llenarlas de nuevo; las previsoras, en cambio, llevaron cada una un frasco de aceite junto con su lámpara. Como el esposo tardaba, les entró sueño a todas y se durmieron.

A medianoche se oyó un grito: ‘¡Ya viene el esposo! ¡Salgan a su encuentro!’ Se levantaron entonces todas aquellas jóvenes y se pusieron a preparar sus lámparas, y las descuidadas dijeron a las previsoras: ‘Dennos un poco de su aceite, porque nuestras lámparas se están apagando’. Las previsoras les contestaron: ‘No, porque no va a alcanzar para ustedes y para nosotras. Vayan mejor a donde lo venden y cómprenlo’.

Mientras aquéllas iban a comprarlo, llegó el esposo, y las que estaban listas entraron con él al banquete de bodas y se cerró la puerta. Más tarde llegaron las otras jóvenes y dijeron: ‘Señor, señor, ábrenos’. Pero él les respondió: ‘Yo les aseguro que no las conozco’.

Estén pues, preparados, porque no saben ni el día ni la hora’’.

MT 25:1-13

Jesus told his disciples this parable:
“The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins
who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 
Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps,
brought no oil with them,
but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. 
Since the bridegroom was long delayed,
they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
At midnight, there was a cry,
‘Behold, the bridegroom!  Come out to meet him!’ 
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. 
The foolish ones said to the wise,
‘Give us some of your oil,
for our lamps are going out.’ 
But the wise ones replied,
‘No, for there may not be enough for us and you.
Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ 
While they went off to buy it,
the bridegroom came
and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. 
Then the door was locked.
Afterwards the other virgins came and said,
‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us!’ 
But he said in reply,
‘Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 
Therefore, stay awake,
for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Un día, mientras San Francisco de Asís estaba labrando su jardín, otro fraile se acercó y le preguntó: “¿Qué harías si supieras que el Señor Jesús fuera a regresar hoy a la tierra?” Francisco respondió, “seguiría labrando mi jardín.” Él podía dar esa respuesta porque estaba preparado; estaba viviendo de tal manera que se sentía preparado para presentarse ante el Señor cuando él volviera en gloria.

Las vírgenes prudentes de la parábola también estaban preparadas. Las diez, tanto las prudentes como las descuidadas, se durmieron mientras esperaban al novio que llegara a la celebración de su boda por la noche; pero solamente las previsoras tenían suficiente aceite en sus lámparas, y así estuvieron listas para recibirlo cuando él llegó (Mateo 25, 4).

¿Qué representa el aceite en esta parábola? Podría referirse a nuestras oraciones o a las buenas obras que hacemos por otros, o bien podría ser el aceite del Espíritu Santo. Lo que sea, las personas sabias son las que se esfuerzan para mantenerse atentas al Espíritu, las que se niegan a darse por vencidas en la oración y las que perseveran en hacer el bien a quienes las rodean. El Señor Jesús nos promete que cualquiera que siga el ejemplo de estas jóvenes previsoras del Evangelio de hoy recibirá su recompensa: contemplarlo cara a cara.

Ciertamente no siempre es sencillo ser bondadoso y amable con tu esposa o esposo todos los días, o ser paciente con tus hijos cuando ellos no se están portando bien. Tampoco es fácil reservar tiempo cada día para la oración personal o aceptar la guía del Espíritu Santo. Todo esto requiere un verdadero esfuerzo, así como la asistencia generosa de la gracia de Dios. Pero cada acto de amor y servicio, cada oración, cada acto de confianza y fe es como una gota de ese valioso aceite que cae en tu lámpara.

¿Qué estás haciendo mientras el Señor vuelve? Si te dedicas a amar a Dios y a aquellos que te rodean, lo estás haciendo bien. Al igual que San Francisco, estarás preparado para el momento en que el Señor regrese, aun cuando te encuentre labrando tu jardín.

“Señor, ayúdame a mantener mi lámpara encendida mientras espero tu regreso.” Amen

Mt 24, 42-51

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Velen y estén preparados, porque no saben qué día va a venir su Señor. Tengan por cierto que si un padre de familia supiera a qué hora va a venir el ladrón, estaría vigilando y no dejaría que se le metiera por un boquete en su casa. También ustedes estén preparados, porque a la hora en que menos lo piensen, vendrá el Hijo del hombre.

Fíjense en un servidor fiel y prudente, a quien su amo nombró encargado de toda la servidumbre para que le proporcionara oportunamente el alimento. Dichoso ese servidor, si al regresar su amo, lo encuentra cumpliendo con su deber. Yo les aseguro que le encargará la administración de todos sus bienes.

Pero si el servidor es un malvado, y pensando que su amo tardará, se pone a golpear a sus compañeros, a comer y emborracharse, vendrá su amo el día menos pensado, a una hora imprevista, lo castigará severamente y lo hará correr la misma suerte de los hipócritas. Entonces todo será llanto y desesperación’’.

MT 24:42-51

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this: 
if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.

“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant,
whom the master has put in charge of his household
to distribute to them their food at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so.
Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property.
But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’
and begins to beat his fellow servants,
and eat and drink with drunkards,
the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day
and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely
and assign him a place with the hypocrites,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”

Meditacion:

Escucha. Es mi actitud primera de acercamiento al Evangelio. Escucha que me ayuda a entender, que me dispone a acoger, que me permite responder.

Y escucho: estad en vela, porque no sabéis qué día vendrá vuestro Señor... Estar en vela. Vigilantes. Despiertos. Intuitivos. Lúcidos. Vivir atentos a la presencia de Dios en lo cotidiano y sabiendo descubrir también sus “ausencias” en la realidad social, cultural, eclesial, política... para trabajar sembrando semillas del Verbo. Discernir. Saber elegir la ocasión que no debemos perder de la tentación que nos pierde. Vivir la dicha de los limpios de corazón porque en nada encuentran obstáculo para descubrir y leer la acción de Dios.? Y escucho: estad preparados, porque a la hora que menos penséis... Receptivos. Dispuestos. Audaces. Diligentes. Responsables. Arriesgados. Confiados. Coherentes. Honestos. Leales.

Y aunque no sepamos el día ni la hora en la dinámica cotidiana siempre es tiempo de discernir. Caminar en la Verdad o vivir en la hipocresía. Hacer en cada momento lo que se tiene que hacer. Auténticos. Apasionados. Crecer para que mis deseos coincidan con la voluntad de Dios. Responder en la fidelidad de lo que soy a su Fidelidad. Generosa y gratuitamente, sin reservas o escatimando esfuerzos. Con medida o con holgura. Acoger con responsabilidad y gratitud todo lo que se nos ofrece. Responder con fidelidad y gozo al don de nuestra vocación. Vivir en la bendición - dichoso ese criado, si el amo, al llegar, lo encuentra portándose así- o en el reproche. Ser creíbles mostrando, no demostrando a Dios. Ser creíbles convenciendo y contagiando horizonte, esperanza, promesa.

Y aunque no sepamos el día ni la hora siempre es tiempo de agradecer  que hemos sido enriquecidos en todo: en el hablar y en el saber; que no carecemos de ningún don los que esperamos en el Señor. Y Él, que es fiel, nos arraiga, nos arrecia, nos afirma, nos sostiene.

Y aunque no sepamos el día ni la hora siempre es tiempo de recordar que el presente es todo lo que tenemos para construir futuro y por eso, debes amar la arcilla que va en tus manos, debes amar su arena hasta la locura y si no, no la emprendas que será en vano, sólo el amor alumbra lo que perdura (Silvio Rodríguez).

Passionate Growing up so that my desires coincide with the will of God. Respond in the fidelity of what I am to his Fidelity. Generously and freely, without reservation or sparing no effort. With measure or with ease. Accept with responsibility and gratitude everything that is offered to us. Respond with fidelity and joy to the gift of our vocation. Living in blessing - blessed is that servant, if the master, upon arrival, finds him behaving like this - or in reproach. Be credible by showing, not proving God. Be credible convincing and spreading horizon, hope, promise.

And even if we don't know the day or the hour, it is always time to be grateful that we have been enriched in everything: in speaking and in knowing; that we do not lack any gift we hope in the Lord. And He, who is faithful, roots us, strengthens us, affirms us, sustains us.

Mt 23, 27-32

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los escribas y fariseos: “¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque son semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados, que por fuera parecen hermosos, pero por dentro están llenos de huesos y podredumbre! Así también ustedes: por fuera parecen justos, pero por dentro están llenos de hipocresía y de maldad.

¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque les construyen sepulcros a los profetas y adornan las tumbas de los justos, y dicen: ‘Si hubiéramos vivido en tiempo de nuestros padres, nosotros no habríamos sido cómplices de ellos en el asesinato de los profetas’! Con esto ustedes están reconociendo que son hijos de los asesinos de los profetas. ¡Terminen, pues, de hacer lo que sus padres comenzaron!”

MT 23:27-32

Jesus said,
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside,
but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.
Even so, on the outside you appear righteous,
but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You build the tombs of the prophets
and adorn the memorials of the righteous, 
and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors,
we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’
Thus you bear witness against yourselves
that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets;
now fill up what your ancestors measured out!”

Meditacion:

La primera lectura de hoy es de la segunda carta de San Pablo a los Tesalonicenses y es una llamada de atención a la comunidad y, en especial, a ciertos miembros que se habían tomado las cosas un poquito al suave. "El que no trabaje, que no come" brama San Pablo que, se sabia, tenia un caracter fuerte.

En el evangelio, Jesus sigue con este largo discurso en el que se lamenta y reprocha a los escribas y fariseos por su falsedad, en vez de ser virtuosos ante el pueblo, se encargaban de poner enormes cargas y ellos no lo cumplian.

No es muy diferente a lo que sucede hoy dia entre lo que llamaríamos "el pueblo" y nuestros gobernantes.

Muchos gobiernos han olvidado completamente que están al servicio de los demás, y se dedican a una pillaje obsceno de los recursos del País, y, al final de sus mandatos, pretenden la gloria de haber construido dos puentes y una carretera, después de haberse llenado los bolsillos propios.

Jesus tiene para ellos la misma respuesta... son hipocritas, son sepulcros blanqueados.

Al igual que en caso de una comunidad Parroquial que tiene en el sacerdote el ejercicio del Ministerio de la Autoridad Parroquial, un país tiene siempre una figura central (un Presidente, un Primer Ministro) encargado de llevar adelante ese País hacia un destino mejor. Pero cuando como hoy dia vemos que las personas a cargo de esa autoridad no la ejercen con amor y misericordia, y se dejan llevar por sus bajos instintos es cuando debemos implorar a Dios por un cambio de corazón.

Recuerda, Pablo también dijo que la disciplina debe ejercerse con amor, haciendo lo posible por intentar cambiar el corazón de esos hermanos; por eso, condiciona su instrucción en dos formas importantes: “No se cansen de hacer el bien”, es decir, atendiendo generosamente a las necesidades genuinas, y “amonestar como a hermano”, es decir, tratando al otro con amor, no actitud de superioridad espiritual (2 Tesalonicenses 3, 13. 15).

Para los cristianos del pasado, presente y futuro, la meta es el mandamiento del Señor Jesús: “Que se amen unos a otros como yo los he amado a ustedes” (Juan 15, 12). Y a ninguno de nosotros se nos impone un “castigo” al tratar de cumplir este mandato.

“Señor Jesús, concédeme una porción de tu amor para cada persona que conozco. Enséñame a amarlos de modo que me acerque más a ti.” Amen

Today's first reading is from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians and is a call to attention to the community and, especially, to certain members who had taken things a little too easy. "He who does not work, who does not eat" bellows Saint Paul who, it was known, had a strong character.

In the Gospel, Jesus continues with this long discourse in which he laments and reproaches the scribes and Pharisees for their falsehood, instead of being virtuous before the people, they were in charge of putting enormous burdens and they did not comply.

It is not very different from what is happening today between what we would call "the people" and our leaders.

Many governments have completely forgotten that they are at the service of others, and are engaged in an obscene pillage of the resources of the Country, and, at the end of their terms, they claim the glory of having built two bridges and a highway, after having filled own pockets.

Jesus has the same answer for them ... they are hypocrites, they are whitewashed tombs.

As in the case of a Parish community that has in the priest the exercise of the Ministry of Parish Authority, a country always has a central figure (a President, a Prime Minister) in charge of taking that Country forward towards a better destiny. But when, like today, we see that the people in charge of that authority do not exercise it with love and mercy, and are carried away by their low instincts, that is when we must implore God for a change of heart.

Remember, Paul also said that discipline should be exercised with love, doing everything possible to try to change the hearts of those brothers; For this reason, he conditions his instruction in two important ways: "Do not tire of doing good", that is, generously attending to genuine needs, and "admonish as a brother", that is, treating the other with love, not attitude of spiritual superiority (2 Thessalonians 3, 13. 15).

For Christians of the past, present and future, the goal is the commandment of the Lord Jesus: "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12). And none of us are imposed "punishment" by trying to fulfill this mandate.

“Lord Jesus, grant me a portion of your love for each person I meet. Teach me to love them so that I get closer to you. " Amen
