La puerta

Lc 13, 22-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús iba enseñando por ciudades y pueblos, mientras se encaminaba a Jerusalén. Alguien le preguntó: "Señor, ¿es verdad que son pocos los que se salvan?"

Jesús le respondió: "Esfuércense en entrar por la puerta, que es angosta, pues yo les aseguro que muchos tratarán de entrar y no podrán. Cuando el dueño de la casa se levante de la mesa y cierre la puerta, ustedes se quedarán afuera y se pondrán a tocar la puerta, diciendo: 'Señor, ábrenos'. Pero él les responderá: 'No sé quiénes son ustedes'. Entonces le dirán con insistencia: 'Hemos comido y bebido contigo y tú has enseñado en nuestras plazas'. Pero él replicará: 'Yo les aseguro que no sé quiénes son ustedes. Apártense de mí, todos ustedes los que hacen el mal'. Entonces llorarán ustedes y se desesperarán, cuando vean a Abraham, a Isaac, a Jacob y a todos los profetas en el Reino de Dios, y ustedes se vean echados fuera. Vendrán muchos del oriente y del poniente, del norte y del sur, y participarán en el banquete del Reino de Dios.

Pues los que ahora son los últimos, serán los primeros; y los que ahora son los primeros, serán los últimos".

Jesus passed through towns and villages,

'I do not know where you are from.
Depart from me, all you evildoers!'
And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth
when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God
and you yourselves cast out.
And people will come from the east and the west
and from the north and the south
and will recline at table in the Kingdom of God.
For behold, some are last who will be first,

Meditacion:

Ser un seguidor de Jesus no es para personas sin valentia.

Me encantaria recordarles un evangelio de hace unos dias, el que decia "al que mucho se le dio, mucho se le pedira",

Yo he conocido laicos sin consagrar mucho mas dedicados que algunos consagrados, laicos que a veces con su compromiso nos hacen avergonzar a los consagrados.

Y otra cosa para destacar... la puerta esta abierta para todos, Jesus no dice "los catolicos romanos" o "los evangelicos biblicos"... no, en todo el evangelio Jesus sostiene y afirma que solo se salvaran sus seguidores. Punto.

Y esto es muy importante, pensar que solo sus seguidores, sean quien sean y donde vivan, estaran con El al final de los dias.

O sea que si bien es muy dificil (y absolutamente inutil) pensar quien es primero o sera el ultimo, es valido mirar hoy nuestra vida y hacer los cambios necesarios para estar de este lado de la puerta y no de aquel.

Una cosa mas... hoy se celebra Halloween, dia anterior al dia de Santos que se celebra mañana. La sociedad le ha sacado a esta fecha su valor pagana y demoniaca para convertirla en una oportunidad donde todos podemos jugar a ser un poco niños. Nosotros podemos usarla para compartir valores positivos en vez de andar asustando, podemos disfrazar a nuestros hijos de cosas bellas o inocentes.

Dijo el Padre Juan María Canals, Secretario de la Comisión Episcopal de Liturgia de España: “No es una fiesta inocente porque tiene un trasfondo de ocultismo. Por sentido pedagógico, es necesario que los niños descubran el valor de la vida y de la bondad, y no fomentar la muerte. Los padres deben encauzar el sentido de fiesta hacia lo bueno y la belleza, en vez del horror, el miedo y la muerte misma.”

“Amado Jesús, ayúdame a seguir adelante por el camino angosto, aunque sea difícil, exigente y hasta arriesgado, porque quiero llegar a gozar de las delicias de tu gloria.” Amen

Being a follower of Jesus is not for people without courage.

El Reino de Dios

Lc 13, 18-21

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo: "¿A qué se parece el Reino de Dios? ¿Con qué podré compararlo? Se parece a la semilla de mostaza que un hombre sembró en su huerta; creció y se convirtió en un arbusto grande y los pájaros anidaron en sus ramas".

Y dijo de nuevo: "¿Con qué podré comparar al Reino de Dios? Con la levadura que una mujer mezcla con tres medidas de harina y que hace fermentar toda la masa".

Meditacion:

Hoy el evangelio nos invita a reflexionar sobre el Reino de Dios mediante estas dos parabolas.

Y si uno las lee, advierte inmediatamente que este Reino parece ser una fuerza poderosa que impulsa, cambia y convierte algo aparentemente inerte en algo diferente y nuevo,

Esa fuerza es sin duda el amor de Dios, el cual esta presente en cada uno de nosotros.

En estos tiempos dificiles es cuando mas debemos usar y abusar del amor de Dios, dandolo a todo mundo porque hoy mas que nunca los gestos de generosidad, misericordia, amor filial y renuncia son importantes.

Nos enfrentamos a momentos complicados, por años hemos pensado que el demonio no podia afectarnos y hemos bajado la guardia pero la maldad entra por cualquier rendija y se expande. No dejemos entrar la maldad a nuestros corazones, oremos por la gracia de Dios y, en especial, por nuestras familias y semejantes.

“Señor, tú no pones límites a lo mucho que puede crecer tu Reino. Concédeme, Señor, la gracia de ver que tu Reino venga a mi vida y a la de mis seres queridos.” Amen

Today the Gospel invites us to reflect on the Kingdom of God through these two parables.

Curar en sabado

Lc 13, 10-17

Un sábado, estaba Jesús enseñando en una sinagoga. Había ahí una mujer que llevaba dieciocho años enferma por causa de un espíritu malo. Estaba encorvada y no podía enderezarse. Al verla, Jesús la llamó y le dijo: "Mujer, quedas libre de tu enfermedad". Le impuso las manos y, al instante, la mujer se enderezó y empezó a alabar a Dios.

Pero el jefe de la sinagoga, indignado de que Jesús hubiera hecho una curación en sábado, le dijo a la gente: "Hay seis días de la semana en que se puede trabajar; vengan, pues, durante esos días a que los curen y no el sábado".

Entonces el Señor dijo: "¡Hipócritas! ¿Acaso no desata cada uno de ustedes su buey o su burro del pesebre para llevarlo a abrevar, aunque sea sábado? Y a esta hija de Abraham, a la que Satanás tuvo atada durante dieciocho años, ¿no era bueno desatarla de esa atadura, aun en día de sábado?"

Cuando Jesús dijo esto, sus enemigos quedaron en vergüenza; en cambio, la gente se alegraba de todas las maravillas que él hacía.

GospelLK 13:10-17

Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath.
And a woman was there who for eighteen years
had been crippled by a spirit;
she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect.
When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said,
"Woman, you are set free of your infirmity."
He laid his hands on her,
and she at once stood up straight and glorified God.
But the leader of the synagogue,
indignant that Jesus had cured on the sabbath,
said to the crowd in reply,
"There are six days when work should be done.
Come on those days to be cured, not on the sabbath day."
The Lord said to him in reply, "Hypocrites!
Does not each one of you on the sabbath
untie his ox or his ass from the manger
and lead it out for watering?
This daughter of Abraham,
whom Satan has bound for eighteen years now,
ought she not to have been set free on the sabbath day
from this bondage?"
When he said this, all his adversaries were humiliated;
and the whole crowd rejoiced at all the splendid deeds done by him.

Meditacion:

Iniciamos hoy la semana 30 del tiempo ordinario y el mes de Noviembre tambien en dos dias. Tambien celebraremos esta semana Dia de muertos y Dia de Todos los Santos o sea que no nos quedemos en el festejo sino que atendamos las liturgias propias de esta semana.

Y abrimos con este evangelio donde Jesus cura, sin que nadie se lo pida, a una mujer. Jesus esta a esta altura camino a Jerusalen donde impartira un corto ministerio antes de ser asesinado,

En el relato de hoy brillan tanto unos como otros. Jesús cura (endereza) a la mujer encorvada. No le libra de un lumbago de días, sino de una dolencia de largos años vinculada a algo más profundo. Tampoco lo hace en un lugar ni en un momento cualquiera: estamos en la sinagoga y es sábado. No tenemos indicios, como otras veces, de que Jesús haya buscado expresamente estas provocativas circunstancias. Pero el lugar y el momento están cargados de significado.

Los enemigos del Reino invocan una vez más lo que ha sido presentado como voluntad de Dios: ¿a quién se le ocurre pedir curación en sábado?

Las lecciones pueden ser varias. Jesús nos invita por enésima vez a poner las cosas en su sitio y a dar a cada una la relevancia que tiene. Pero también vuelve a exhortarnos a ser cautos cuando invocamos el Nombre del Señor y desenmascara las excusas tras las que escondemos nuestras comodidades: “cualquiera de vosotros…”.

Los cristianos de hoy nos encontramos a menudo ante dilemas de este tipo: ¿qué valorar más?, ¿qué relevancia tiene cada cosa, cada principio, cada norma, cada situación? Que el Padre del Cielo nos dé su Espíritu (el de Jesús) para discernir como conviene.

“Amado Señor Jesucristo, tú sabes mejor que yo cuánto necesito tu curación. Abre mi corazón para escuchar tus palabras, porque sé que me pueden librar y sanar.” Amen

But the place and the moment are loaded with meaning.

The enemies of the Kingdom invoke once more what has been presented as God's will: to whom does it occur to ask for healing on the Sabbath?

The lessons can be several. Jesus invites us for the umpteenth time to put things in their place and to give each one the relevance that it has. But he also exhorts us to be cautious when we invoke the Name of the Lord and unmask the excuses behind which we hide our comforts: "any of you ...".

Today's Christians often face dilemmas of this type: what to value more? What is the relevance of each thing, each principle, each norm, each situation? May the Father of Heaven give us his Spirit (that of Jesus) to discern as it should.

"Beloved Lord Jesus Christ, you know better than I do how much I need your healing. Open my heart to listen to your words, because I know that they can deliver me and heal me. "Amen

La higuera

Lc 13, 1-9

En aquel tiempo, algunos hombres fueron a ver a Jesús y le contaron que Pilato había mandado matar a unos galileos, mientras estaban ofreciendo sus sacrificios. Jesús les hizo este comentario: "¿Piensan ustedes que aquellos galileos, porque les sucedió esto, eran más pecadores que todos los demás galileos? Ciertamente que no; y si ustedes no se arrepienten, perecerán de manera semejante. Y aquellos dieciocho que murieron aplastados por la torre de Siloé, ¿piensan acaso que eran más culpables que todos los demás habitantes de Jerusalén? Ciertamente que no; y si ustedes no se arrepienten, perecerán de manera semejante".

Entonces les dijo esta parábola: "Un hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viñedo; fue a buscar higos y no los encontró. Dijo entonces al viñador: 'Mira, durante tres años seguidos he venido a buscar higos en esta higuera y no los he encontrado. Córtala. ¿Para qué ocupa la tierra inútilmente?' El viñador le contestó: 'Señor, déjala todavía este año; voy a aflojar la tierra alrededor y a echarle abono, para ver si da fruto. Si no, el año que viene la cortaré' ".

GospelLK 13:1-9

Some people told Jesus about the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
He said to them in reply, 
“Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way 
they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!
Or those eighteen people who were killed 
when the tower at Siloam fell on them–
do you think they were more guilty 
than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!”

And he told them this parable: 
“There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, 
and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,
he said to the gardener,
‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree 
but have found none.
So cut it down.
Why should it exhaust the soil?’
He said to him in reply,
‘Sir, leave it for this year also, 
and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; 
it may bear fruit in the future.
If not you can cut it down.’”

Meditacion:

Hoy leia este evangelio y me imaginaba Jesus en estos dias, leyendo sobre tantas muertes por violencia, por las guerras, por el hambre.. que diria Jesus hoy dia de todas estas muertes?

Para los judios, las muertes se relacionaban directamente con sus pecados y, de la misma manera, la buena suerte era atada con ser un buen judio practicante.

Por eso Jesus les cambia el discurso y les habla de conversion que es de lo que venimos hablando todos estos dias.

Tambien me sorprendio que el evangelista decidiera cerrar esta lectura con la parabola de la higuera seca que habla mas de misericordia y paciencia.

Nosotros somos muy rapidos para leer lo que nos pasa en nuestra vida y endilgarle a Dios nuestros problemas como "castigo divino" y pedirle explicaciones.

Pero realmente Dios es un Dios paciente y generoso que espera por nosotros.

Convertirnos no supone cambiar de conducta de la noche a la mañana, sino, más bien, se trata de un proceso continuo que nos permite descubrir el amor paciente de Dios que no nos ha destruido ni cortado del todo, sino que siempre y a través de todo nos está invitando a ser más humanos y más hermanos, tal como nos lo mostró con su vida Jesús de Nazaret. Este amor posibilita la conversión que nos capacita para cambiar nuestros modos de pensar, empezar nuevos procesos de relaciones, desterrar viejos hábitos insanos y emprender otros nuevos que sean más evangélicos y nos hagan más sencillos, alegres y solidarios.

“Dios mío, me arrepiento de mis pecados. Prefiriendo el mal y omitiendo el bien he pecado contra ti, a quien amo sobre todas las cosas. Me propongo firmemente, con la ayuda de tu gracia, hacer penitencia, no volver a pecar y evitar todo lo que me lleve al pecado.” Amen

Today I read this gospel and I imagined Jesus in these days, reading about so many deaths by violence, by wars, by hunger ... what would Jesus say today about all these deaths?

For the Jews, the deaths were directly related to their sins and, in the same way, good luck was tied with being a good practicing Jew.

That is why Jesus changes the discourse and talks about conversion, which is what we have been talking about all these days.

I was also surprised that the evangelist decided to close this reading with the parabola of the dry fig tree that speaks more of mercy and patience.

We are very quick to read what happens to us in our lives and to attribute to God our problems as "divine punishment" and ask for explanations.

But really God is a patient and generous God who waits for us.

Converting does not mean changing behavior overnight, but rather, it is a continuous process that allows us to discover the patient love of God that has not destroyed or cut us off completely, but always and through everything It is inviting us to be more human and more brothers, as Jesus of Nazareth showed us with his life. This love enables the conversion that enables us to change our ways of thinking, to start new processes of relationships, to banish old, unhealthy habits and to undertake new ones that are more evangelical and make us simpler, happier and more supportive.

"My God, I repent of my sins. Preferring evil and omitting good I have sinned against you, whom I love above all things. I firmly propose, with the help of your grace, to do penance, not to sin again and avoid everything that leads me to sin. "Amen

Leer los signos del cielo

Lc 12, 54-59

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a la multitud: "Cuando ustedes ven que una nube se va levantando por el poniente, enseguida dicen que va a llover, y en efecto, llueve. Cuando el viento sopla del sur, dicen que hará calor, y así sucede. ¡Hipócritas! Si saben interpretar el aspecto que tienen el cielo y la tierra, ¿por qué no interpretan entonces los signos del tiempo presente? ¿Por qué, pues, no juzgan por ustedes mismos lo que les conviene hacer ahora?

Cuando vayas con tu adversario a presentarte ante la autoridad, haz todo lo posible por llegar a un acuerdo con él en el camino, para que no te lleve ante el juez, el juez te entregue a la policía, y la policía te meta en la cárcel. Yo te aseguro que no saldrás de ahí hasta que pagues el último centavo''.

GospelLK 12:54-59

Jesus said to the crowds,
“When you see a cloud rising in the west
you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south
you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,
make an effort to settle the matter on the way;
otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge,
and the judge hand you over to the constable,
and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released
until you have paid the last penny.”

Meditacion:

Jesus ya lleva unos dias mostrandonos en el evangelio lo mismo; hoy creo que se le acabo la paciencia.

Jesus nos llama al arrepentimiento y la confesion, a sumarse a este tiempo de correccion y, leyendo las noticias en internet, la verdad que no hay que saber leer mucho el cielo y la tierra para ver que mas que nunca en este tiempo necesitamos confesion, ayuno y oracion.

Piensen mis amigos que las bendiciones de Nuestro Padre no solo caen en nuestra vida sino en la vida de los que vendran despues de nosotros: nuestros hijos y familias.  Cada vez que nosotros decidimos cambiar nuestra vida, ser mejores, hacer el bien, mimetizarnos mas con la obra de Nuestro Padre, bendiciones vienen no solo sobre nosotros sino sobre nuestra familia.  O sea que hagamos el bien por todos.

No dejemos pasar el dia sin hacer el bien a alguien, a alguien que no conocemos, a alguien que nos cae mal o nos hizo algun daño, a alguien que no espera nuestra mano.. No nos vayamos a acostar sin hacer un examen claro de nuestro dia... me porte bien con los mios?? podria haber hecho esto o aquello de una diferente manera?? Y por ultimo, un truco que aprendi de mucha gente muy exitosa.. escriban sus propositos y ponganles fecha.. No se fijen al principio propositos enormes, comiencen con algo  pequeño  y alcanzable y sigan asi.

Naturalmente esto no sucede por arte de magia. Cada día tenemos que dedicarle tiempo y atención a nuestro compasivo Señor, haciendo oración y leyendo su santa Palabra; además, debemos ir con frecuencia a Misa y recibir los sacramentos. Así se nos abrirán los ojos y los oídos espirituales para ver las señales, escuchar la voz de Dios y responder correctamente.

“Señor mío Jesucristo, te doy gracias porque sé que siempre estás buscándome, llamándome y esperándome. Hoy te digo ven a mi corazón y sé el Señor y Salvador de mi vida.” Amen

Fuego en la tierra

Lc 12, 49-53

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "He venido a traer fuego a la tierra, ¡y cuánto desearía que ya estuviera ardiendo! Tengo que recibir un bautismo, ¡y cómo me angustio mientras llega!

¿Piensan acaso que he venido a traer paz a la tierra? De ningún modo. No he venido a traer la paz, sino la división. De aquí en adelante, de cinco que haya en una familia, estarán divididos tres contra dos y dos contra tres. Estará dividido el padre contra el hijo, el hijo contra el padre, la madre contra la hija y la hija contra la madre, la suegra contra la nuera y la nuera contra la suegra''.

"I have come to set the earth on fire,

Meditacion:

Hace ya muchos años yo lei una frase que en ese momento no entendia mucho. La frase decia "El amor de Dios es la muerte de las teologias".

Pero al leer el evangelio de hoy, la recorde y tiene mucho sentido. 

Jesus vino a hacer una revolucion, una revolucion mucho mas profunda que si se hubiera hecho por las armas, es una revolucion que comienza en el corazon de las personas y cambia todo, cambia formas de vivir, de pensas y de actuar.

Para la personas que descubrio y encontro el amor de Dios, todo lo demas se vuelve secundario... y, al igual que un novio que esta enamorado, no puede dejar de hablar de su relacion, un cristiano que encontro a Jesus sencillamente no puede dejar de predicar y hablar de Jesus. O sea mis amigos y para ponersela complicada.. cuanto amor tenemos por nuestro Padre?

A la vez, Jesus sabia que esta revolucion, si bien a la mano de todos, no todos serian capaces de llevarla a cabo y eso traeria divisiones.

En un muy esenio punto de vista diriamos que no todos estan en la misma etapa de elevacion o sea que esa verdad infinita a veces causa temor y division.

Para el seguidor de la paz y la verdad, no hay otra realidad que la de misionar, predicar y mostrar la alegria del servicio a nuestros hermanos.

No teman, enamorense de Dios... San Agustin, un enamorado total decia "Ama y haz lo que quieras" porque sabia que el amor proviene de Dios o sea que nunca te va a llevar por malos caminos.

Cuando mantenemos esta comunión con Cristo, él nos enseña y se nos revela más claramente. Entonces es cuando deseamos aceptar todo el mensaje del Evangelio, porque todas las demás ideas, creencias, filosofías y opiniones habrán perdido valor ante la esplendorosa luz de Cristo. Jesús desea ayudarnos, fortalecernos y revelarse a nosotros. Deja, hermano, que Cristo alumbre tu vida interior y te colme de alegría, felicidad y la esperanza cierta de la salvación.

“Espíritu Santo, muéveme a buscar la faz de Dios. Lléname del conocimiento de Dios y de su amor. Dame el deseo de purificarme y aceptar todo el mensaje del Evangelio sin importarme cuánto me cueste.” Amen

When we maintain this communion with Christ, he teaches us and reveals himself to us more clearly. That is when we want to accept the whole message of the Gospel, because all other ideas, beliefs, philosophies and opinions will have lost their value before the splendid light of Christ. Jesus wants to help us, strengthen us and reveal himself to us. Leave, brother, may Christ lift up your inner life and fill you with joy, happiness and the certain hope of salvation.

"Holy Spirit, move me to seek the face of God. Fill me with the knowledge of God and his love. Give me the desire to purify myself and accept the whole message of the Gospel without caring how much it costs me. "Amen
