Tiempo de balances

Jn 1, 1-18

En el principio ya existía aquel que es la Palabra,
y aquel que es la Palabra estaba con Dios y era Dios.
Ya en el principio él estaba con Dios.
Todas las cosas vinieron a la existencia por él
y sin él nada empezó de cuanto existe.
Él era la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres.
La luz brilla en las tinieblas
y las tinieblas no la recibieron.

Hubo un hombre enviado por Dios, que se llamaba Juan.
Éste vino como testigo, para dar testimonio de la luz,
para que todos creyeran por medio de él.
Él no era la luz, sino testigo de la luz.

Aquel que es la Palabra era la luz verdadera,
que ilumina a todo hombre que viene a este mundo.
En el mundo estaba;
el mundo había sido hecho por él
y, sin embargo, el mundo no lo conoció.

Vino a los suyos y los suyos no lo recibieron;
pero a todos los que lo recibieron
les concedió poder llegar a ser hijos de Dios,
a los que creen en su nombre,
los cuales no nacieron de la sangre,
ni del deseo de la carne, ni por voluntad del hombre,
sino que nacieron de Dios.

Y aquel que es la Palabra se hizo hombre
y habitó entre nosotros.
Hemos visto su gloria,
gloria que le corresponde como a Unigénito del Padre,
lleno de gracia y de verdad.

Juan el Bautista dio testimonio de él, clamando:
"A éste me refería cuando dije:
'El que viene después de mí, tiene precedencia sobre mí,
porque ya existía antes que yo' ".

De su plenitud hemos recibido todos gracia sobre gracia.
Porque la ley fue dada por medio de Moisés,
mientras que la gracia y la verdad vinieron por Jesucristo.
A Dios nadie lo ha visto jamás.
El Hijo unigénito, que está en el seno del Padre,
es quien lo ha revelado.

GospelJN 1:1-18

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God. 
All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.

A man named John was sent from God.
He came for testimony, to testify to the light, 
so that all might believe through him.
He was not the light,
but came to testify to the light.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

He was in the world,
and the world came to be through him,
but the world did not know him.
He came to what was his own,
but his own people did not accept him.

But to those who did accept him
he gave power to become children of God, 
to those who believe in his name, 
who were born not by natural generation 
nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision 
but of God.

And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only-begotten Son,
full of grace and truth.

John testified to him and cried out, saying, 
“This was he of whom I said, 
‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me 
because he existed before me.’”
From his fullness we have all received,
grace in place of grace,
because while the law was given through Moses, 
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God.
The only-begotten Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, 
has revealed him.

Meditacion:

El ultimo dia del año 2018 contemplamos los primeros versiculos del evangelio de Juan. Este es un tiempo de reflexion donde todos nos sentamos a pensar que hicimos bien, que no hicimos, como nos fue... y las respuestas pueden ser variadas.

Yo les propongo un plan de vida para este 2019; muchas veces las personas me dicen que no saben para donde o como encaminar su vida; yo, humildemente, les dejo una idea que funciona: para este 2019 “actúa como todo dependiera de ti y sólo de ti, pero confía como si todo dependiera de Dios y solo de Dios”

Simple verdad? 

La Palabra de este último día del año nos presenta las claves para poder realizar nuestra revisión. La carta de Juan nos recuerda que “estáis ungidos por el Santo, y todos vosotros lo conocéis”, conocemos al Señor que nos cuida y nos sostiene todos los días de nuestra vida; está con nosotros. No nos dejemos seducir por falsos dioses ni doctrinas en este nuevo año, permanezcamos fieles al Señor, en actitud de vigilancia. Por otro lado, el Evangelio nos recuerda que la Palabra es la Vida y la Luz, y la vida auténtica no se halla en el hombre mismo, sino en el autor de la vida, dueño también de la historia y del tiempo.

Ha sido para nosotros un año lleno de novedades, de bendiciones y de aprendizajes. Desde el fondo de mi corazon, los bendigo y les deseo el mejor 2019 para ustedes y sus familias! 

“Señor mío Jesucristo, abre mis ojos para que yo vea tu gloria cada día en este año nuevo.” Amen

The last day of the year 2018 we contemplate the first verses of the Gospel of John. This is a time of reflection where we all sit down to think that we did well, that we did not do it, as it was ... and the answers can be varied.

I propose a life plan for this 2019; Many times people tell me that they do not know where or how to direct their life; I, humbly, leave you an idea that works: for this 2019 "act as everything depended on you and only you, but trust as if everything depended on God and only God"

Simple truth?

The Word of this last day of the year presents us with the keys to make our revision. The letter of John reminds us that "you are anointed by the Saint, and you all know him", we know the Lord who cares for us and sustains us all the days of our lives; is with us Let us not be seduced by false gods or doctrines in this new year, let us remain faithful to the Lord, in an attitude of vigilance. On the other hand, the Gospel reminds us that the Word is Life and Light, and authentic life is not found in man himself, but in the author of life, who also owns history and time.

It has been for us a year full of news, blessings and learning. From the bottom of my heart, I bless you and wish you the best 2019 for you and your families!

"My Lord Jesus Christ, open my eyes so that I may see your glory every day in this new year." Amen

Simeon y el niño Jesus

Lc 2, 22-35

Transcurrido el tiempo de la purificación de María, según la ley de Moisés, ella y José llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor, de acuerdo con lo escrito en la ley: Todo primogénito varón será consagrado al Señor, y también para ofrecer, como dice la ley, un par de tórtolas o dos pichones.

Vivía en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, que aguardaba el consuelo de Israel; en él moraba el Espíritu Santo, el cual le había revelado que no moriría sin haber visto antes al Mesías del Señor. Movido por el Espíritu, fue al templo, y cuando José y María entraban con el niño Jesús para cumplir con lo prescrito por la ley, Simeón lo tomó en brazos y bendijo a Dios, diciendo:

"Señor, ya puedes dejar morir en paz a tu siervo,
según lo que me habías prometido,
porque mis ojos han visto a tu Salvador,
al que has preparado para bien de todos los pueblos;
luz que alumbra a las naciones
y gloria de tu pueblo, Israel".

El padre y la madre del niño estaban admirados de semejantes palabras. Simeón los bendijo, y a María, la madre de Jesús, le anunció: "Este niño ha sido puesto para ruina y resurgimiento de muchos en Israel, como signo que provocará contradicción, para que queden al descubierto los pensamientos de todos los corazones. Y a ti, una espada te atravesará el alma".

GospelLK 2:22-35

When the days were completed for their purification
according to the law of Moses,
the parents of Jesus took him up to Jerusalem
to present him to the Lord,
just as it is written in the law of the Lord,
Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,
and to offer the sacrifice of
a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,
in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. 
This man was righteous and devout,
awaiting the consolation of Israel,
and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit
that he should not see death
before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. 
He came in the Spirit into the temple;
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus
to perform the custom of the law in regard to him,
he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:

“Lord, now let your servant go in peace;
your word has been fulfilled:
my own eyes have seen the salvation
which you prepared in the sight of every people,
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.”

The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him;
and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
“Behold, this child is destined
for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted
(and you yourself a sword will pierce)
so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Meditacion:

A cuatro dias de haber celebrado el nacimiento de Jesus, el evangelio nos sigue mostrando caras diferentes.

Ayer conmemoramos los Santos Inocentes, un dia antes, el martirio de San Esteban.

Y hoy el Santo Simeon reconoce al niño Jesus como el Salvador del Mundo, mientras predice a su madre que "una espada te atravesara el alma".

Es como si el evangelio quisiera sacarnos de esa celebracion tan dulzona y alegre y ponernos con los pies en la tierra.

Poco a poco, la celebracion comienza como que a perder el brillo; aun mañana celebraremos la Sagrada Familia pero poco a poco vamos marchando hacia el tiempo ordinario que comenzara a mitad de Enero, despues de la celebracion del bautismo de Jesus.

Como conservar ese brillo, ese amor, ese sentir de estos dias?

Ahora que Jesús se hizo uno de nosotros sabemos en qué consiste el amor en las situaciones de la vida real. En los evangelios, el Señor nos muestra que amar significa tomar decisiones concretas para poner los intereses de los demás antes que los propios. Así lo demostró él mismo cenando con gente despreciada (Lucas 19, 1-10), alimentando a multitudes que no tenían qué comer (Juan 6, 1-15), esperando a uno que sufría en silencio para que articulara lo que necesitaba (Lucas 18, 35-43) o incluso perdonando a quien había pecado gravemente (Juan 8, 1-11).

Si estas acciones de Jesús te parecen demasiado difíciles para imitarlas, no te preocupes: Jesús conoce tus fortalezas y debilidades, y está dispuesto a ayudarte. No hace falta que sepas exactamente lo que tienes que hacer para demostrar amor, porque el propio amor de Cristo, su iniciativa y su compasión pueden convertirse en el amor, la iniciativa y la compasión que tú vayas a demostrar. ¿Demorará tiempo y requerirá esfuerzo? Sí, claro, pero con el tiempo y la persistencia se hará manifiesto.

¿Deseas tú ser más amable con quienes conviven contigo o con tus amigos? La mejor manera de hacerlo es… haciéndolo. Cada día da un paso más hacia el ideal que nos mostró Cristo, y pídele que te bendiga por darlo. Cada paso que das te acerca más a “la luz” de la que hablaba Juan (1 Juan 2, 8); cada vez que dejas de lado la indiferencia o el resentimiento y realizas un inesperado acto de bondad o generosidad, la oscuridad disminuye un poco más, y la luz y el amor de Cristo te llenarán un poco más.

Piensa hoy en una persona que te resulta difícil aceptar e imagínate que Jesús está sentado junto a esa persona y le pone el brazo alrededor del hombro. Sigue imaginándote la escena hasta que percibas el amor que fluye entre ambos; deja que esa visión te ablande el corazón y te lleve a dar el próximo paso para demostrarle aceptación y amabilidad a la misma persona.

“Señor mío Jesucristo, te doy infinitas gracias por tu gran amor. Concédeme, te lo ruego, la gracia de poder demostrar el mismo amor a mis familiares y amigos.” Amen

Four days after celebrating the birth of Jesus, the gospel continues to show us different faces.

Yesterday we commemorated the Innocent Saints, the day before, the martyrdom of Saint Stephen.

And today Saint Simeon recognizes the child Jesus as the Savior of the World, while he predicts to his mother that "a sword will pierce your soul".

It is as if the gospel wants to take us out of that sweet and joyful celebration and put us down to earth.

Little by little, the celebration begins as you lose the brightness; Even tomorrow we will celebrate the Holy Family but little by little we will march towards the ordinary time that began in the middle of January, after the celebration of the baptism of Jesus.

How to preserve that brightness, that love, that feeling of these days?

Now that Jesus became one of us we know what love consists of in real life situations. In the Gospels, the Lord shows us that love means making concrete decisions to put the interests of others before their own. This was demonstrated by him dining with despised people (Luke 19, 1-10), feeding crowds who had nothing to eat (John 6, 1-15), waiting for one suffering in silence to articulate what he needed (Luke 18, 35-43) or even forgiving those who had sinned grievously (John 8, 1-11).

If these actions of Jesus seem too difficult for you to imitate, do not worry: Jesus knows your strengths and weaknesses, and is willing to help you. You do not have to know exactly what you have to do to show love, because Christ's own love, initiative and compassion can be converted into love, initiative and compassion that you are going to demonstrate. Will it take time and require effort? Yes, of course, but with time and persistence it will become manifest.

Do you want to be nicer to those who live with you or your friends? The best way to do it is ... doing it. Each day, take a step closer to the ideal that Christ showed us, and ask him to bless you for giving it. Each step you take brings you closer to "the light" of which John spoke (1 John 2, 8); every time you put aside indifference or resentment and perform an unexpected act of kindness or generosity, the darkness diminishes a little more, and the light and love of Christ will fill you up a little more.

Think of a person today who finds it difficult to accept and imagine that Jesus is sitting next to that person and puts his arm around his shoulder. Keep imagining the scene until you perceive the love that flows between them; Let that vision soften your heart and lead you to take the next step to show acceptance and kindness to the same person.

Santos inocentes

Mt 2, 13-18

Después de que los magos partieron de Belén, el ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños a José y le dijo: "Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre y huye a Egipto. Quédate allá hasta que yo te avise, porque Herodes va a buscar al niño para matarlo".

José se levantó y esa misma noche tomó al niño y a su madre y partió para Egipto, donde permaneció hasta la muerte de Herodes. Así se cumplió lo que dijo el Señor por medio del profeta: De Egipto llamé a mi hijo.

Cuando Herodes se dio cuenta de que los magos lo habían engañado, se puso furioso y mandó matar, en Belén y sus alrededores, a todos los niños menores de dos años, conforme a la fecha que los magos le habían indicado.

Así se cumplieron las palabras del profeta Jeremías: En Ramá se ha escuchado un grito, se oyen llantos y lamentos: es Raquel que llora por sus hijos y no quiere que la consuelen, porque ya están muertos.

GospelMT 2:13-18

When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.

When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi,
he became furious.
He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity
two years old and under,
in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:

A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.

Meditacion:

Volvemos hoy a la historia del nacimiento de Jesus con una pagina horrible como es el asesinato de los Santos Inocentes.

La paranoia y el temor que sentia Herodes ante esta amenaza de que un posible sucesor hubiera nacido, hace que mande asesinar a todo niño de menos de 2 años viviendo en los alrededores de Belen.

Para entonces, la Sagrada Familia ya estaba en camino a Egipto para salvar su vida; al igual que nuestros hermanos inmigrantes que hoy salen de sus paises para inmigrar a un nuevo pais, Maria, Jose y Jesus buscaron otro horizonte hasta que fue seguro volver a Palestina.

Los temores son capaces de hacer esto en nosotros, ver y percibir cosas como no son, no dejarnos ser libres y convertirnos en personas inmoviles, incapaces de reaccionar a no ser en base a ese temor con violencia. Y entonces alguien sale herido; en este caso, niños que perdieron su vida.

Lo más seguro es que los temores que tengamos no nos lleven a los extremos de Herodes, pero hay varias otras maneras en que el miedo o la cobardía nos puede dañar a nosotros mismos y a quienes tenemos cerca. Y lo peor de todo es que nos convence de que no hay escapatoria. Algunos incluso se sienten tan encadenados por la inseguridad y el temor que ni siquiera pueden imaginarse una vida libre de ellos. Pero, claro que es posible librarse, porque ¡todo es posible con Dios!

Hermano, tú no tienes por qué sentirte dominado por los temores, especialmente los que se mantienen ocultos en el subconsciente. En tu oración diaria, pídele hoy al Señor que te muestre si tienes algún temor no reconocido en tu vida y pon atención a lo que te viene a la mente. Si te das cuenta de que hay algo que antes no podías reconocer, pídele al Señor que te ayude a verlo y afrontarlo. Es posible que no sientas ningún cambio al principio, pero no te desanimes, ¡sigue pidiendo!

“Amado Jesús, quiero llevar una vida libre de temores, y sé que tú me has librado del miedo. ¡Ayúdame a enfrentar lo que sea, Señor!” Amen

The most certain thing is that the fears we have do not lead us to the extremes of Herod, but there are several other ways in which fear or cowardice can harm us and those around us. And the worst of all is that it convinces us that there is no escape. Some even feel so chained by insecurity and fear that they can not even imagine a life free of them. But, of course it is possible to get rid, because everything is possible with God!

Brother, you do not have to feel dominated by fears, especially those that remain hidden in the subconscious. In your daily prayer, ask the Lord today to show you if you have any unrecognized fear in your life and pay attention to what comes to mind. If you realize that there is something you could not recognize before, ask the Lord to help you see it and face it. You may not feel any change at the beginning, but do not be discouraged, keep asking!

"Beloved Jesus, I want to lead a life free of fears, and I know that you have freed me from fear. Help me face whatever it is, Lord! "Amen

Fiesta de San Juan

Jn 20, 2-9

El primer día después del sábado, María Magdalena vino corriendo a la casa donde estaban Simón Pedro y el otro discípulo, a quien Jesús amaba, y les dijo: "Se han llevado del sepulcro al Señor y no sabemos dónde lo habrán puesto".

Salieron Pedro y el otro discípulo camino del sepulcro. Los dos iban corriendo juntos, pero el otro discípulo corrió más aprisa que Pedro y llegó primero al sepulcro, e inclinándose, miró los lienzos puestos en el suelo, pero no entró.

En eso, llegó también Simón Pedro, que lo venía siguiendo, y entró en el sepulcro. Contempló los lienzos puestos en el suelo y el sudario, que había estado sobre la cabeza de Jesús, puesto no con los lienzos en el suelo, sino doblado en sitio aparte. Entonces entró también el otro discípulo, el que había llegado primero al sepulcro, y vio y creyó, porque hasta entonces no habían entendido las Escrituras, según las cuales Jesús debía resucitar de entre los muertos.

GospelJN 20:1A AND 2-8

On the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we do not know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.

Meditacion:

Algunos de nosotros nos sorprenderemos al leer el pasaje del evangelio de hoy que no parece guardar conexion (al igual que el de ayer) con el nacimiento de Jesus dos dias atras.

Ayer conmemorabamos el martirio de San Esteban y hoy a San Juan el apostol "el discipulo que Jesus mas queria" dice el evangelio y es por eso que en estos dias se elije un pasaje del evangelio donde San Juan es protagonista.

Pero no se preocupen, seguimos por algunos dias mas celebrando el nacimiento del niño Jesus y el domingo celebraremos el dia de la Sagrada Familia.

Pero hoy celebramos a San Juan y me parece El es un modelo y ejemplo para todos.

Su evangelio es completamente diferente a los otros 3, es mas centrado en presentar a Jesus como el Hijo de Dios y estuvo mayormente inspirado en sus conversaciones con la Virgen Maria a quien acogio luego de la muerte y resurreccion de Jesus.

Es posible que en ocasiones Juan se haya creído parte de una “minoría selecta” (Marcos 9, 38-41), que haya sido ambicioso (10, 34-45), y hasta exaltado o enardecido (Lucas 9, 51 a 56); pero también era humilde (20, 3-8), lleno de fe (20, 8) y compasivo (13, 23-25). Jesús sabía todo esto y trataba a Juan con toda la paciencia, el amor y la bondad que éste necesitaba para que sus rasgos negativos fueran disminuyendo y sus rasgos positivos aumentando y fortaleciéndose.

Dios no tiene “favoritos”, ni siquiera aquellos que son más fieles que otros. Por supuesto, es natural que, cuando somos fieles y devotos, profundizamos nuestra unión con Cristo y experimentamos más plenamente su amor; aprendemos a apoyarnos en Jesús, como lo hizo Juan, y hasta escuchar los latidos de su corazón. Pero incluso si caemos, él está ahí, preparado para levantarnos sin demora, perdonarnos con ternura y asegurarnos que nos sigue amando de la misma manera como antes.

Dedica unos momentos hoy a reflexionar sobre este amor íntimo con que Jesús te ama, aprende a apoyarte en él y recuerda cuando él te ha demostrado su amor en los diversos detalles de tu vida. Y no te cohíbas, puedes decir que tú también eres “el discípulo a quien Jesús ama.”

“Señor mío Jesucristo, te doy gracias por tu gran amor. Enséñame a aceptar tu amor, para que cambie mi corazón.” Amen

Some of us will be surprised to read the gospel passage today that does not seem to be connected (like yesterday) with the birth of Jesus two days ago.

Jesus knew all this and treated John with all the patience, love and kindness he needed so that his negative traits would diminish and his positive traits would increase and strengthen.

God does not have "favorites", not even those who are more faithful than others. Of course, it is natural that, when we are faithful and devoted, we deepen our union with Christ and experience more fully his love; we learn to lean on Jesus, as did John, and even listen to the beating of his heart. But even if we fall, he is there, ready to get up without delay, forgive us with tenderness and make sure that he continues to love us in the same way as before.

Take a few moments today to reflect on this intimate love with which Jesus loves you, learn to lean on him and remember when he has shown you his love in the various details of your life. And do not be shy, you can say that you are also "the disciple whom Jesus loves."

"My Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you for your great love. Teach me to accept your love, to change my heart. "Amen

Perseverancia

Mt 10, 17-22

Meditacion:

Es curioso como el evangelio nos pasa de ayer donde cantabamos glorias a Dios con sus angeles y villancicos por el nacimiento del Hijo de Dios a hoy que en la primera lectura recordamos la primera muerte del primer martir, San Esteban, lapidado por los judios.

Por eso en el evangelio leemos este pasaje donde Jesus les dice de cuidarse porque sin duda seran perseguidos.

Y esto, lamentablemente, sigue siendo una realidad hoy dia, solo hay que recordar los sacerdotes asesinados en Mexico o la cantidad de catolicos muertos en paises musulmanes o la enorme intolerancia religiosa que sigue produciendo muertos de todas las denominaciones que puedan imaginarse.

En el evangelio Jesus promete que el Espiritu Santo nos inundara y hablara por nosotros y que los que perseveren hasta el final se salvaran.

Pero el recuerdo de este reflejo de la Pasión no pretende empañar el misterio de la Navidad ni oscurecer su luz. Al contrario, nos recuerda el sentido profundo de este nacimiento: “Si alguno pregunta por el misterio se sentirá llevado a afirmar más bien, que no fue su muerte una consecuencia de su nacimiento, sino que él nació para poder morir” (S. Gregorio Nacianceno). Jesús ha nacido para comunicarnos la vida de Dios, que es el amor, es decir, para dar su vida por amor. Y es este amor la luz que ilumina la noche de la humanidad, la oscuridad del odio. Al recordar el martirio de San Esteban, la liturgia nos avisa de que acoger al niño nacido en Belén significa en definitiva asumir su mismo modo de vida: tratar de hacer de nuestra vida una entrega por amor. Y esto puede, extrañamente, atraernos el odio de este mundo. Pero no hay que temer: esto será ocasión para dar testimonio ante el mundo de ese mismo amor, de perseverar, a pesar de los pesares, en esa voluntad de amar hasta el final.

“Espíritu Santo, Señor, concédeme un corazón como el de Esteban, lleno de valentía, confianza y perdón.” Amen

On the contrary, it reminds us of the profound meaning of this birth: "If anyone asks about the mystery he will feel led to affirm rather that his death was not a consequence of his birth, but that he was born to be able to die" (S. Gregorio Nacianceno). Jesus was born to communicate to us the life of God, which is love, that is, to give his life for love. And this love is the light that illuminates the night of humanity, the darkness of hatred. In recalling the martyrdom of St. Stephen, the liturgy warns us that welcoming the child born in Bethlehem means, in short, assuming the same way of life: trying to make our lives a surrender for love. And this can, strangely, attract us the hatred of this world. But there is no need to fear: this will be an opportunity to bear witness to the world of that same love, to persevere, in spite of sorrows, in that will to love until the end.

"Holy Spirit, Lord, grant me a heart like Esteban's, full of courage, trust and forgiveness." Amen

El Magnificat

Lc 1, 46-56

En aquel tiempo, dijo María:
"Mi alma glorifica al Señor
y mi espíritu se llena de júbilo en Dios, mi salvador,
porque puso sus ojos en la humildad de su esclava.
Desde ahora me llamarán dichosa todas las generaciones,
porque ha hecho en mí grandes cosas el que todo lo puede.
Santo es su nombre,
y su misericordia llega de generación en generación
a los que lo temen.
Ha hecho sentir el poder de su brazo:
dispersó a los de corazón altanero,
destronó a los potentados
y exaltó a los humildes.
A los hambrientos los colmó de bienes
y a los ricos los despidió sin nada.

Acordándose de su misericordia,
vino en ayuda de Israel, su siervo,
como lo había prometido a nuestros padres,
a Abraham y a su descendencia,
para siempre''.

María permaneció con Isabel unos tres meses y luego regresó a su casa.

Meditacion:

Hoy contemplamos el magnificat, el canto de agradecimiento de la Virgen Maria ante el milagro del embarazo de su prima Isabel y de ella misma.

Me gustaria que conozcamos un poquito mas de este hermoso pasaje del evangelio. Encontre online esta explicacion del Padre Edgardo Guzmas que me gusta mucho sobre lo que significa cada parte; la proxima vez que lo leamos o cantemos, sabremos un poco mas que dice:

"El Magnificad, es “el espejo del corazón de María”, es el canto de los pobres, una de las plegarias mas hermosas escritas en el Nuevo Testamento. Con claras referencias a la literatura sapiencial y profética de Israel. El cántico celebra en síntesis la entera historia de la salvación. Seguramente lo hemos leído y rezado muchas veces, puede que hasta lo sepamos de memoria. Sin embargo, esto no agota todo su potencial. Este día puede ser una buena oportunidad para entrar una vez más en el con una mirada sapiencial y contemplativa.

Podemos dividir el cántico del Magnificad en tres partes: La primera (vv. 46-49) María da gloria a Dios por las maravillas que ha obrado en ella: «porque ha mirado la humildad de su esclava». En la segunda parte (vv. 50-53) exalta la misericordia de Dios que se implica en nuestra historia humana a favor de los pobres y de los últimos. Esto se expresa con estos verbos: hace proezas, dispersa, derriba, enaltece, colma, despide, auxilia. En la tercera parte (vv. 54-55) María recuerda el cumplimiento amoroso y fiel de las promesas de Dios: «acordándose de la misericordia” – como lo había prometido a “nuestros padres” – en favor de Abrahán y su descendencia por siempre».

En el Magnificad encontramos la fuerte convicción bíblica que Dios actúa siempre en la historia de la humanidad. Lo hace contando con la colaboración de todos aquellos que se hacen pequeños y que le sirven de corazón, en silencio adorante y agradecido. En esta línea se encuentra el paralelismo con la primera lectura de hoy, que nos muestra la presentación de Samuel al templo de Silo, el cántico es aprovechado como salmo responsorial. De esta manera, la liturgia en esta octava de preparación para la Navidad nos quiere hacer ver la continuidad de la obra salvífica de Dios en el Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento. En segundo lugar, estos textos resaltan el papel de la mujer en el plan de salvación. Dios se vale de la mediación femenina para llevar adelante su obra de redención y comprobamos que no es en un plano inferior o de menor valía.

¡Hagamos nuestro el Magnificad!, pidamos por intersección de la Madre de Dios la gracia de vivir este tiempo de Navidad como un verdadero acontecimiento de salvación:
