El fariseo y el publicano

Lc 18, 9-14

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo esta parábola sobre algunos que se 
tenían por justos y despreciaban a los demás:

"Dos hombres subieron al templo para orar: uno era fariseo y el otro, publicano. El fariseo, erguido, oraba así en su interior: 'Dios mío, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres: ladrones, injustos y adúlteros; tampoco soy como ese publicano. Ayuno dos veces por semana y pago el diezmo de todas mis ganancias'.

El publicano, en cambio, se quedó lejos y no se atrevía a levantar los ojos al cielo. Lo único que hacía era golpearse el pecho, diciendo: 'Dios mío, apiádate de mí, que soy un pecador'.

Pues bien, yo les aseguro que éste bajó a su casa justificado y aquél no; porque todo el que se enaltece será humillado y el que se humilla será enaltecido''.

GospelLK 18:9-14

Jesus addressed this parable
to those who were convinced of their own righteousness
and despised everyone else.
"Two people went up to the temple area to pray;
one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself,
'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity — 
greedy, dishonest, adulterous — or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice a week,
and I pay tithes on my whole income.'
But the tax collector stood off at a distance
and would not even raise his eyes to heaven
but beat his breast and prayed,
'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.'
I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former;
for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

Meditacion:

El fariseo de este evangelio cumplia con la Ley de Dios, pensaba que estaba haciendo lo correcto, pagaba sus diezmos, ayunaba y hasta daba gracias a Dios.

Pero su falla era estar separado de su hermano.

"Dios mío, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres..." se consideraba por encima de sus hermanos.

Curiosamente cuanto mas vivimos en nuestras vidas el evangelio, mas sentimos ese amor fraternal que nos impulsa a hacer mas cosas por nuestros hermanos.

Todo el resto (la oracion, el ayuno, incluso el diezmo) tiene sentido a la hora de que nos decidimos a dar ese paso y vivir en la gracia de Dios.

Entonces vamos a la Iglesia no solo los domingos sino tambien en la semana, para tener un encuentro mas cercano e intimo con Dios.

El publicano en tanto habia ya reconocido sus pecados y pedia solo piedad para su vida.

Es muy facil creernos lo que no somos en lo que hace a espiritualidad, es cosa de un segundo.

Desde sus inicios, la Iglesia adoptó la oración de este cobrador de impuestos. En el Acto Penitencial de la Misa, rezamos “Señor, ten piedad”. Incluso en el canto del Gloria decimos: “Ten piedad de nosotros.”

Es más, en todo el mundo, los cristianos de diferentes tradiciones invocan el nombre del Señor y suplican su misericordia en la “Oración a Jesús”. Esta oración, que generalmente dice así: “Señor Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios, ten piedad de mí que soy pecador” es una perfecta profesión de fe, porque recoge lo esencial de lo que sabemos y creemos sobre el Señor. En estas pocas y simples palabras, confesamos nuestro pecado, suplicamos la misericordia de Dios y nos abrimos para recibir su perdón. Según el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, esta oración es tan poderosa que, “el corazón está acorde con la miseria de los hombres y con la misericordia de su Salvador” (CIC, 2667).

Intenta rezar la Oración a Jesús frecuentemente mientras haces tus actividades cotidianas: mientras conduces, durante los quehaceres del hogar, cuando haces una pausa en el día o cuando haces ejercicio. Rézala cada vez que venga a tu mente. Permite que las palabras de esta oración entren profundamente en tu corazón y te recuerden que el Señor siempre está dispuesto a ofrecerte su misericordia y su perdón. Permítele que te enseñe la misma humildad, confianza y apertura que tuvo el cobrador de impuestos. Luego, al igual que él, tú también podrás irte a “casa” en el cielo “justificado” (Lucas 18, 14).

“Señor Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios, ten piedad de nosotros pecadores.” Amen

The Pharisee of this Gospel fulfilled the Law of God, thought he was doing the right thing, paid his tithes, fasted and even gave thanks to God.

Dos mandamiento, toda la sencillez

Mc 12, 28-34

En aquel tiempo, uno de los escribas se acercó a Jesús y le preguntó: “¿Cuál es el primero de todos los mandamientos?” Jesús le respondió: “El primero es: Escucha, Israel: El Señor, nuestro Dios, es el único Señor; amarás al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. El segundo es éste: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. No hay ningún mandamiento mayor que éstos”.

El escriba replicó: “Muy bien, Maestro. Tienes razón, cuando dices que el Señor es único y que no hay otro fuera de él, y amarlo con todo el corazón, con toda el alma, con todas las fuerzas, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo, vale más que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios”.

Jesús, viendo que había hablado muy sensatamente, le dijo: “No estás lejos del Reino de Dios”. Y ya nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.

GospelMK 12:28-34

One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
"Which is the first of all the commandments?"
Jesus replied, "The first is this:
Hear, O Israel!

Meditacion:

Decia Santa Theresa de Calcuta:

"Yo creo en la relación de persona a persona. Para querer a una persona, hay que acercarse a ella. Si esperamos  tener un buen número de personas, nos perdemos en los números. Cada persona para mi es Cristo, y puesto que hay un único Jesús, la persona que tengo delante  es para mí la única persona en el mundo en aquel momento.

Además, como no podemos ver a Cristo, no podemos expresar nuestro amor por Él.

Pero al vecino podemos verle y podemos hacer por él lo que haríamos por Cristo si le viéramos.

Por eso para que nuestro trabajo sea fructífero y hermoso debemos hacerlo con mucha fe.

Con fe en Cristo que nos dice: "Tenía hambre, estaba desnudo, enfermo, sin casa, era extranjero... y me ayudaste"

Jesus vino a simplificar un numero enorme de leyes y mandatos que existian en su tiempo. Hoy, eso no ha cambiado mucho; el clericalismo, la forma corporativa de las religiones aleja a las personas por su misma impersonalidad y falta de autenticidad.

Debemos volver a lo basico, al evangelio de hoy, amar al projimo, entregarnos al amor de Dios.

Las enseñanzas de Jesús que leemos en el Evangelio son claras, sabias y no son complicadas; somos los humanos los que tendemos a complicarlo. Pensamos que si hacemos lo bueno y evitamos lo malo, ganaremos puntos para alcanzar el premio celestial. Sin embargo, por mucho que hagamos algo o no hagamos nada, probablemente estemos pasando por alto la esencia misma del Evangelio: Que Jesús simplemente nos llama a entregarnos de corazón a la gracia divina y al servicio de su pueblo. ¡Dos mandatos sencillos, pero eficaces!

Si nos dedicamos a obedecer estos dos mandamientos, podemos tener la plena certeza de que Cristo nos llevará a una comunión más profunda consigo. No es necesario observar una lista de mandatos y prohibiciones, sólo tenemos que rendirnos de corazón al Señor y dejar que su amor nos llene por completo: “Él siempre procede con amor y verdad” (Salmo 25, 10).

“Jesús, Señor nuestro, ayúdame a amarte a ti y a tu pueblo con sencillez de corazón. Quiero complacerte y acercarme cada día más a tu Reino, siendo dócil a tu voluntad y procurando reflejar tu amor ante los demás.” Amen

Santa Teresa of Calcutta said:

El chisme

Lc 11, 14-23

En aquel tiempo, Jesús expulsó a un demonio, que era mudo. Apenas salió el demonio, habló el mudo y la multitud quedó maravillada. Pero algunos decían: “Éste expulsa a los demonios con el poder de Belzebú, el príncipe de los demonios”. Otros, para ponerlo a prueba, le pedían una señal milagrosa.

Pero Jesús, que conocía sus malas intenciones, les dijo: “Todo reino dividido por luchas internas va a la ruina y se derrumba casa por casa. Si Satanás también está dividido contra sí mismo, ¿cómo mantendrá su reino? Ustedes dicen que yo arrojo a los demonios con el poder de Satanás. Entonces, ¿con el poder de quién los arrojan los hijos de ustedes? Por eso, ellos mismos serán sus jueces. Pero si yo arrojo a los demonios con el dedo de Dios, eso significa que ha llegado a ustedes el Reino de Dios.

Cuando un hombre fuerte y bien armado guarda su palacio, sus bienes están seguros; pero si otro más fuerte lo asalta y lo vence, entonces le quita las armas en que confiaba y después dispone de sus bienes. El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama”.

GospelLK 11:14-23

Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute,
and when the demon had gone out,
the mute man spoke and the crowds were amazed.

But he knew their thoughts and said to them,
"Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste

by whom do your own people drive them out?

When a strong man fully armed guards his palace,
his possessions are safe.

Meditacion:

Ya ven mis amigos que ni siquiera Jesus se libero de la malidicencia, de que hablaran mal de El y de lo que hacia.

Unos decian que curaba por el poder del demonio, otros, que necesitaban una señal milagrosa... cuando estaban ante un milagro como era la curacion del mudo.

Creo que hablar mal de otros es un mal que nos afecta a todos por igual, todos en mayor o menor medida hemos caido en este pozo.

Y el demonio es muy bueno, impulsando la duda, la desconfianza y el desaliento. Una vez que comenzo con esto, lo proximo sera ver los logros de otras personas de una manera incredula y los comentarios en voz baja sobre El seran inevitables.

Yo estoy convencido de que si solo lograramos refrenar nuestra lengua, el mundo seria mucho mas bello porque si no destilamos veneno sobre la vida de nuestros semejantes, nuestra apreciacion de cada dia sera mas interesante.

Estamos a la mitad de cuaresma, dejemos de hablar de otros, tomemoslo como algo que debemos cambiar.

Entonces, ¿qué debemos hacer? Poner toda nuestra confianza en las promesas de Dios. Cada vez que tengas la tentación de dudar del amor del Padre, recuerda que nada ni nadie te puede separar de su amor (Romanos 8, 35-39); cuando sientas el impulso de dudar de la providencia del Señor, recuerda que Dios cuida de las flores del campo y las aves del cielo y que se complace más aún en darte todo que necesitas (Lucas 12, 22-34). Siempre que dudes del perdón de Dios, recuerda que el Señor es rico en misericordia y lento a la ira (Efesios 2, 4; Salmos 103, 12). ¡Estas son verdades sobre las que puedes afianzar tu vida! Recuerda: El que está en ti es más grande que el que está en el mundo (1 Juan 4, 4). Además, el Señor nos dejó el Sacramento de la Confesión, en el cual, si nos arrepentimos de verdad, él nos perdona y nos sana.

“Gracias, amado Señor Jesús, porque me has hecho partícipe de la gracia de tu victoria por el Bautismo; por eso creo firmemente que nada me puede separar de tu amor.” Amen

My friends already see that not even Jesus got rid of the mali- dence, that they spoke ill of Him and what He did.

Nuevas leyes, viejas leyes

Mt 5, 17-19

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “No crean que he venido a abolir la ley o los profetas; no he venido a abolirlos, sino a darles plenitud. Yo les aseguro que antes se acabarán el cielo y la tierra, que deje de cumplirse hasta la más pequeña letra o coma de la ley. 

Por lo tanto, el que quebrante uno de estos preceptos menores y enseñe eso a los hombres, será el menor en el Reino de los cielos; pero el que los cumpla y los enseñe, será grande en el Reino de los cielos”.

GospelMT 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,

Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments

Meditacion:

Es interesante el evangelio de hoy que insiste en el valor de las leyes de Moises, validadas por Jesus.

Podriamos pensar que Jesus vino a "patear el tablero", barajar las cartas y dar de nuevo. Pero no, Jesus no deroga una sola de los mandamientos o las leyes (un poco centradas en las formas y no en los contenidos espirituales) de ese tiempo.

Lo que hace Jesus es darle un sentido nuevo, basado en el amor, amor a Dios y amor a nuestros hermanos. Y lo dice muy claro en Mateo 22: "Maestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento en la ley?

37 Jesús le dijo: Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente.

38 Este es el primero y grande mandamiento.

39 Y el segundo es semejante: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.

40 De estos dos mandamientos depende toda la ley y los profetas"

Con Jesus comprendemos la moralidad de los diez mandamientos como minima para nuestra vida pero se abre una puerta nueva que es esta de amar a Dios y nuestros hermanos sin medida.

“Señor, te doy infinitas gracias porque sé que yo, por mucho que lo quiera o lo intente, jamás podré cumplir todos los mandamientos de la Ley, pero sé que tú los has cumplido por mí y que tú eres mi plenitud.” Amen

Perdon y justicia

Mt 18, 21-35

En aquel tiempo, Pedro se acercó a Jesús y le preguntó: “Si mi hermano me ofende, ¿cuántas veces tengo que perdonarlo? ¿Hasta siete veces?” Jesús le contestó: “No sólo hasta siete, sino hasta setenta veces siete”.

Entonces Jesús les dijo: “El Reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que quiso ajustar cuentas con sus servidores. El primero que le presentaron le debía diez mil talentos. Como no tenía con qué pagar, el señor mandó que lo vendieran a él, a su mujer, a sus hijos y todas sus posesiones, para saldar la deuda. El servidor, arrojándose a sus pies, le suplicaba diciendo: ‘Ten paciencia conmigo y te lo pagaré todo’. El rey tuvo lástima de aquel servidor, lo soltó y hasta le perdonó la deuda.

Pero, apenas había salido aquel servidor, se encontró con uno de sus compañeros, que le debía poco dinero. Entonces lo agarró por el cuello y casi lo estrangulaba, mientras le decía: ‘Págame lo que me debes’. El compañero se le arrodilló y le rogaba: ‘Ten paciencia conmigo y te lo pagaré todo’. Pero el otro no quiso escucharlo, sino que fue y lo metió en la cárcel hasta que le pagara la deuda.

Al ver lo ocurrido, sus compañeros se llenaron de indignación y fueron a contar al rey lo sucedido. Entonces el señor lo llamó y le dijo: ‘Siervo malvado. Te perdoné toda aquella deuda porque me lo suplicaste. ¿No debías tú también haber tenido compasión de tu compañero, como yo tuve compasión de ti?’ Y el señor, encolerizado, lo entregó a los verdugos para que no lo soltaran hasta que pagara lo que debía.

Pues lo mismo hará mi Padre celestial con ustedes, si cada cual no perdona de corazón a su hermano”.

GospelMT 18:21-35

Peter approached Jesus and asked him,
"Lord, if my brother sins against me,
how often must I forgive him?
As many as seven times?"
Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.

who decided to settle accounts with his servants.
When he began the accounting,
a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount.

his master ordered him to be sold,
along with his wife, his children, and all his property,

At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said,
'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full.'
Moved with compassion the master of that servant
let him go and forgave him the loan.
When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants
who owed him a much smaller amount.
He seized him and started to choke him, demanding,
'Pay back what you owe.'
Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him,
'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'
But he refused.
Instead, he had him put in prison
until he paid back the debt.
Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened,
they were deeply disturbed, and went to their master
and reported the whole affair.
His master summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant!
I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to.
Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant,
as I had pity on you?'
Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturers
until he should pay back the whole debt.
So will my heavenly Father do to you,
unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart."

Meditacion:

El evangelio de hoy nos pide perdonar a nuestros hermanos.

Y la verdad que perdonar no es facil, es un ejercicio diario que debemos hacer, asi como vamos al gimnasio o vamos a trabajar, ejercer el perdon diario a nuestros hermanos deberia ser uno de nuestros mas importantes ejercicios en nuestra agenda/

El perdon tiene dos partes que muchas veces se confunden o se olvidan. En un primer punto esta el perdon de parte nuestra pero luego debe haber una reparacion de parte del que hizo el daño.

No es esto un ojo por ojo y diente por diente pero de la misma manera que cuando vamos a confesarnos se nos perdonan nuestros pecados y prometemos "no pecar mas" o sea hacer una instancia restaurativa en nuestra relacion con Dios, cuando perdonamos o cuando pedimos perdon la accion restaurativa no se extingue.

Hace unos dias alguien brillantemente me lo explico de esta manera:

El 13 de Mayo de 1981, Ali Agca disparo 4 veces contra San Juan Pablo II en Roma.

El Papa fue inmediatamente llevado al hospital y el asesino, aprehendido y juzgado.

Dos años despues, el Papa y Agca se reunieron en la carcel y el Papa lo perdono.

Veamos los pasos. Hay un hecho violento pero la victima perdona e incluso, visita al victimario en la carcel. Eso no evito que el victimario pasara tiempo en la carcel antes de ser deportado. Esa es la parte de la repacion.

Creo que muchas personas nos resulta dificil perdonar porque debemos nunca esperar una reparacion pero esto no funciona asi, la reparacion (digamos la parte de la confesion donde decimos "no vuelvas a pecar") no esta alli por casualidad, nos comprometemos a no pecar de nuevo lo mismo o la confesion se convierte en una especia de "free ticket".

No hay perdon sin reparacion, no hay reparacion sin real perdon de corazon.

Es una justicia restaurativa la unica que concede la paz y devuelve a nuestro corazon su alegria.

“Amado Jesús, sé que tengo mucho por hacer todavía. Cambia mi corazón y abre mis ojos para que yo aprenda a perdonar hoy.” Amen

La sencillez de Maria en su aceptacion

Lc 1, 26-38

En aquel tiempo, el ángel Gabriel fue enviado por Dios a una ciudad de Galilea, llamada Nazaret, a una virgen desposada con un varón de la estirpe de David, llamado José. La virgen se llamaba María.

Entró el ángel a donde ella estaba y le dijo: “Alégrate, llena de gracia, el Señor está contigo”. Al oír estas palabras, ella se preocupó mucho y se preguntaba qué querría decir semejante saludo.

El ángel le dijo: “No temas, María, porque has hallado gracia ante Dios. Vas a concebir y a dar a luz un hijo y le pondrás por nombre Jesús. Él será grande y será llamado Hijo del Altísimo; el Señor Dios le dará el trono de David, su padre, y él reinará sobre la casa de Jacob por los siglos y su reinado no tendrá fin”.

María le dijo entonces al ángel: “¿Cómo podrá ser esto, puesto que yo permanezco virgen?” El ángel le contestó: “El Espíritu Santo descenderá sobre ti y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá con su sombra. Meditacion:

En medio de la cuaresma celebramos la fiesta de la Anunciacion, justo 9 meses antes de la Navidad. Y particularmente creo que es una buena manera de, en el medio de la cuaresma, reavivar nuestra fe con el sencillo ejemplo de Maria en su entrega al plan de Dios.

 Le debe haber costado mucho a la Virgen María aceptar las palabras del ángel. Le dijo que sus planes de matrimonio cambiarían radicalmente y cuando ella escuchó que concebiría a un hijo “por obra del Espíritu Santo,” debe haber temido que José la dejara; además, encontrarse embarazada y sin marido significaba el rechazo de sus vecinos y conocidos y una vida de vergüenza y privación.

 A veces Dios nos pone pesadas cargas que llevar, por eso María se quedó preocupada, confundida y temerosa. ¿Cómo fue capaz de decir que sí a la invitación del ángel? Lo hizo porque estaba llena de gracia. La gracia es un regalo que Dios nos ha dado gratuitamente a todos, y hay muchas clases de gracia. Por ejemplo, Dios nos da la gracia de la salvación, la gracia de creer y la gracia de morir a nosotros mismos. A María le concedió una gracia especial que la movió a decir: “Cúmplase en mí lo que me has dicho” (Lucas 1, 38). 

La gracia de Dios actúa como el combustible que se usa para que funcione un coche; es el combustible de Dios que “les da energía interior para que puedan querer y actuar conforme a su voluntad” (Filipenses 2, 13). Ahora, incluso con toda la gracia que el Señor le dio, la Virgen tenía que aceptar el poder divino y aplicarlo en su vida, así como un coche lleno de gasolina no va a ninguna parte a menos que lo pongamos en marcha y comencemos a manejar. El ángel le aseguró a María que para Dios no hay nada imposible (Lucas 1, 37). 

Nuestro Padre puede hacer todo lo que se propone, cuándo y dónde quiera hacerlo. Pero por alguna razón, prefiere hacer su obra con ayuda nuestra. Así pues, al celebrar este gran día en que la Virgen María se sometió a la voluntad de Dios, tomemos nosotros la misma decisión. The grace of God acts as the fuel that is used to make a car work; it is God's fuel that "gives them inner energy so that they may want and act according to their will" (Philippians 2:13). Now, even with all the grace that the Lord gave her, the Virgin had to accept the divine power and apply it in her life, just as a car full of gasoline is not going anywhere unless we start it and start to manage .

The angel assured Mary that for God there is nothing impossible (Luke 1:37). Our Father can do everything that is proposed, when and where he wants to do it. But for some reason, he prefers to do his work with our help. So, as we celebrate this great day when the Virgin Mary submitted to the will of God, let us make the same decision. Let's not stop, then, from being willing to accept that maybe God wants to change the place, the date or the condition of some of our projects. Tell the Lord also: "I am a servant of the Lord.
