Jn 8, 21-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos: “Yo me voy y ustedes me buscarán, pero morirán en su pecado. A donde yo voy, ustedes no pueden venir”. Dijeron entonces los judíos: “¿Estará pensando en suicidarse y por eso nos dice: ‘A donde yo voy, ustedes no pueden venir’?” Pero Jesús añadió: “Ustedes son de aquí abajo y yo soy de allá arriba; ustedes son de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo. Se lo acabo de decir: morirán en sus pecados, porque si no creen que Yo Soy, morirán en sus pecados”.

Los judíos le preguntaron: “Entonces ¿quién eres tú?” Jesús les respondió: “Precisamente eso que les estoy diciendo. Mucho es lo que tengo que decir de ustedes y mucho que condenar. El que me ha enviado es veraz y lo que yo le he oído decir a él es lo que digo al mundo”. Ellos no comprendieron que hablaba del Padre.

Jesús prosiguió: “Cuando hayan levantado al Hijo del hombre, entonces conocerán que Yo Soy y que no hago nada por mi cuenta; lo que el Padre me enseñó, eso digo. El que me envió está conmigo y no me ha dejado solo, porque yo hago siempre lo que a él le agrada”. Después de decir estas palabras, muchos creyeron en él.

Jesus said to the Pharisees:
“I am going away and you will look for me,
but you will die in your sin.
Where I am going you cannot come.”
So the Jews said,

I belong to what is above.
You belong to this world,
but I do not belong to this world.
That is why I told you that you will die in your sins.
For if you do not believe that I AM,
you will die in your sins.”
So they said to him, “Who are you?”
Jesus said to them, “What I told you from the beginning.
I have much to say about you in condemnation.
But the one who sent me is true,
and what I heard from him I tell the world.”
They did not realize that he was speaking to them of the Father.
So Jesus said to them,
“When you lift up the Son of Man,
then you will realize that I AM,
and that I do nothing on my own,
but I say only what the Father taught me.
The one who sent me is with me.
He has not left me alone,
because I always do what is pleasing to him.”
Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him.

Meditacion:

Moisés levantó la serpiente de bronce y quienes la contemplaron vieron dos cosas: primero, una visión gráfica de sus propios pecados, porque las murmuraciones, las acusaciones y las quejas son tan mortíferas como las serpientes y se deslizan furtivamente entre las personas obstaculizando o torciendo la obra de Dios. Segundo, vieron claramente la misericordia de Dios, porque todos cuantos miraban la serpiente de bronce sanaban instantáneamente.

De modo similar, cuando nosotros miramos fijamente a Cristo crucificado, nos vemos más claramente a nosotros mismos y también al propio Jesús.

Vemos que somos capaces de herir mortalmente a otros por la indiferencia, el egoísmo y el orgullo; vemos que podemos ser tal como Pilato cuando nos lavamos las manos ante el sufrimiento de los necesitados; como los soldados cuando maltratamos a quienes no respetamos; como la muchedumbre que fácilmente se deja llevar por la corriente del momento y rechaza a quienes no sigan esa corriente. Somos como los aspirantes a discípulos que huyen a la primera señal de problemas y como los amigos que se quedan paralizados por el miedo. Vemos que nuestras propias acciones le han causado el gran dolor que el Señor experimenta mientras se encuentra crucificado sufriendo por nuestros pecados.

Pero eso no es todo. Si miramos fijamente al crucifijo, vemos también a Dios que se hizo hombre porque nos ama; vemos a Jesús que nos mira a cada uno con gran ternura y compasión. Le oímos decir que promete el perdón y la vida eterna a todo el que se acoja a él arrepentido. Vemos a un Mesías que nos ama tanto e incondicionalmente que está dispuesto a vencer no solo nuestros pecados, sino la muerte misma.

Dedica hoy un momento para contemplar un crucifijo, en casa o en la iglesia. No te preocupes si tienes o no algo que decirle al Señor. Solo arrodíllate allí y fija la mirada en él con alegría y gratitud. Ten el coraje de entender lo que él te haga ver sobre ti mismo, pero no te detengas allí. Sigue contemplándolo fijamente hasta que sientas que su amor es más poderoso que tu pecado y que te eleva a la presencia de Cristo Jesús, tu hermano y Redentor.

“Señor mío Jesucristo, gracias infinitas por amarme tanto que aceptaste ser levantado en la cruz para salvarme.”

Moses raised the bronze serpent and those who saw it saw two things: first, a graphic vision of their own sins, because the murmuring, the accusations and the complaints are as deadly as snakes and they sneak among people, hindering or twisting the God's work. We see that we are capable of mortally wounding others through indifference, selfishness, and pride; We see that we can be just like Pilate when we wash our hands before the suffering of the needy; like soldiers when we mistreat those we don't respect; Like the crowd that easily gets carried away by the current of the moment and rejects those who do not follow that current. We are like aspiring disciples who flee at the first sign of trouble and like friends who are paralyzed by fear. We see that our own actions have caused him the great pain that the Lord experiences while he is crucified suffering for our sins.

But that is not all. If we stare at the crucifix, we also see God who became man because he loves us; We see Jesus who looks at each of us with great tenderness and compassion. We hear him say that he promises forgiveness and eternal life to all who take refuge in it in repentance. We see a Messiah who loves us so much and unconditionally that he is willing to overcome not only our sins, but death itself.

Take a moment today to contemplate a crucifix, at home or in church. Don't worry if you have something to say to the Lord or not. Just kneel there and stare at him with joy and gratitude. Have the courage to understand what he makes you see about yourself, but don't stop there. Keep staring at him until you feel that his love is more powerful than your sin and that he raises you to the presence of Jesus Christ, your brother and Redeemer.

No juzguemos

Jn 8, 1-11

En aquel tiempo, Jesús se retiró al monte de los Olivos y al amanecer se presentó de nuevo en el templo, donde la multitud se le acercaba; y él, sentado entre ellos, les enseñaba.

Entonces los escribas y fariseos le llevaron a una mujer sorprendida en adulterio, y poniéndola frente a él, le dijeron: “Maestro, esta mujer ha sido sorprendida en flagrante adulterio. Moisés nos manda en la ley apedrear a estas mujeres. ¿Tú qué dices?”

Meditacion:

El evangelio de hoy habla de cada uno de nosotros. La tradicion de la Biblia (yo la llamaria las historias paralelas, no siempre ciertas pero si a veces interesantes) nos cuentan que lo que Jesus escribia en el suelo era el nombre de cada uno de los acusadores y sus pecados.

Puede ser o no, pero en este caso, cada uno reconoce que es un pecador y que no puede acusar sin ser acusado.

Si esta mujer era culpable o no, es secundario, lo importante de este evangelio es reconocer dos cosas

a) Todos somos pecadores, con la misma vara que medimos seremos medidos.

b) El amor de Dios es infinito y donde hay arrepentimiento y deseo de mejorar ("vete y no peques mas") habra perdon.

Entonces amigos y amigas hagamos de nuestra vida un lugar de reflexion y amor, no nos apresuremos a juzgar porque para eso ya esta Dios y seamos misericordiosos con aquellos que eligen vivir en el pecado.

Esa es la manera de testimoniar nuestro amor por Dios.

Estemos, pues, atentos a los testigos que nos hablan, y pidámosle al Espíritu Santo que nos haga ver claramente que lo que nos enseña Jesús es la verdad. Si estamos bien dispuestos, este testimonio nos llegará al corazón con toda fuerza y claridad (Juan 14,26; 15,26).

“Espíritu Santo, enséñame a conocer personalmente a Jesús, la luz del mundo. Ayúdame a seguir tu guía y escuchar tu voz.” Amen

Today's Gospel speaks of each one of us. The tradition of the Bible (I would call it the parallel stories, not always true but sometimes interesting) tell us that what Jesus wrote on the ground was the name of each of the accusers and their sins.

Estudia las Escrituras y verás que de Galilea no ha salido ningún profeta”. Y después de esto, cada uno de ellos se fue a su propia casa.

Has notado alguna vez que, en numerosas ocasiones, durante el ministerio público de Jesús, algunos quisieron arrestarlo o silenciarlo, sin embargo no llegó a pasar nada? Por ejemplo, sus paisanos nazarenos intentaron una vez arrojarlo a un precipicio, y más de una vez algunos judíos de Jerusalén tomaron piedras para apedrearlo (Lucas 4, 28-30; Juan 8, 59; 10, 31). Sin embargo, de una manera u otra, él pasaba en medio de la multitud y se alejaba, y al día siguiente seguía predicando y sanando gente.

Have you ever noticed that, on numerous occasions, during Jesus' public ministry, some wanted to arrest or silence him, yet nothing happened? For example, his Nazarene countrymen once tried to throw him off a cliff, and more than once some Jews in Jerusalem took stones to stone him (Luke 4:28, 30; John 8:59, 10:31). However, one way or another, he would pass through the crowd and walk away, and the next day he would continue to preach and heal people.

How did I manage to do this? By his own divine power and wisdom. It is very simple: his time had not yet come, so he did not allow his detractors to hinder or interrupt his mission. In fact, he himself explains it in the Gospel according to Saint John: "No one takes my life, but I give it of my own free will" (John 10:18).

Jesus cannot be detained by soldiers, by his relatives or by all the powers that are on or under the earth. He always exercises absolute control and constantly does things that reveal more of his own identity and why his Father sent him into the world.

Even though no one and nothing could prevent Jesus from carrying out his mission to rescue humanity, it is entirely possible that we close our hearts to his love and our ears to his Word. We may have a “multitude” of household chores, obligations, sports games, or other distractions that prevent us from paying attention to it; or perhaps some area of ​​sin or selfishness that clouds our sight and prevents us from seeing what he is trying to do in us.

Don't let that happen to you! Try to listen with an open mind and meet him with an open heart. Jn 7, 1-2. 10. 25-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús recorría Galilea, pues no quería andar por Judea, porque los judíos trataban de matarlo. Se acercaba ya la fiesta de los judíos, llamada de los Campamentos.

Cuando los parientes de Jesús habían llegado ya a Jerusalén para la fiesta, llegó también él, pero sin que la gente se diera cuenta, como de incógnito. Algunos, que eran de Jerusalén, se decían: “¿No es éste al que quieren matar? Miren cómo habla libremente y no le dicen nada. ¿Será que los jefes se han convencido de que es el Mesías? Jesús, por su parte, mientras enseñaba en el templo, exclamó: “Conque me conocen a mí y saben de dónde vengo... Pues bien, yo no vengo por mi cuenta, sino enviado por el que es veraz; y a él ustedes no lo conocen. Pero yo sí lo conozco, porque procedo de él y él me ha enviado”. Trataron entonces de capturarlo, pero nadie le pudo echar mano, porque todavía no había llegado su hora.

Hoy tendremos misa online en nuestra pagina de facebook a las 6 pm hora de California. Leemos de la "Palabra entre nosotros":

"Cuando los jefes religiosos buscaron a Jesús para darle muerte, él los enfrentó con serenidad, pero decidido a cumplir la voluntad de su Padre. Él sabía cuál era su identidad, de dónde venía y adónde iba; pero le pareció necesario cuestionar la afirmación de sus opositores de que ellos lo conocían. Posiblemente se nos ocurra preguntar ¿por qué no reconocieron que en él actuaba el poder de Dios, o el amor de Dios que se manifestaba en sus palabras? El libro de la Sabiduría nos da una respuesta: “Así discurren los malvados, pero se engañan; su malicia los ciega” (Sabiduría 2, 21).

Los detractores de Jesús pensaban que conocían al Señor, pero se equivocaban porque el verdadero entendimiento de la Persona de Cristo viene solamente por revelación. Esta es la esencia de la oración: Buscar humildemente la presencia y la sabiduría de Dios. El Señor quiere levantarnos a todos y comunicarnos palabras de amor y sabiduría. The Lord wants to lift us all up and communicate words of love and wisdom to us. Now that we are on the Lenten pilgrimage to Easter, ask the Holy Spirit to grant you a revelation about the Father's heart and open your ears to hear the voice of Jesus. Jn 5, 31-47

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos: “Si yo diera testimonio de mí, mi testimonio no tendría valor; otro es el que da testimonio de mí y yo bien sé que ese testimonio que da de mí, es válido.

Ustedes enviaron mensajeros a Juan el Bautista y él dio testimonio de la verdad. No es que yo quiera apoyarme en el testimonio de un hombre. Si digo esto, es para que ustedes se salven. Juan era la lámpara que ardía y brillaba, y ustedes quisieron alegrarse un instante con su luz. Pero yo tengo un testimonio mejor que el de Juan: las obras que el Padre me ha concedido realizar y que son las que yo hago, dan testimonio de mí y me acreditan como enviado del Padre.

El Padre, que me envió, ha dado testimonio de mí. Ustedes nunca han escuchado su voz ni han visto su rostro, y su palabra no habita en ustedes, porque no le creen al que él ha enviado.

No piensen que yo los voy a acusar ante el Padre; ya hay alguien que los acusa: Moisés, en quien ustedes tienen su esperanza. Si creyeran en Moisés, me creerían a mí, porque él escribió acerca de mí. Pero, si no dan fe a sus escritos, ¿cómo darán fe a mis palabras?’’

“If I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is not true.

He was a burning and shining lamp,

Meditacion:

Vivimos en un ambiente bastante indiferente; ambiente en el cual Dios parece no existir ni contar para nada; ambiente en que el camino señalado por el mismo Dios no parece interesar mucho a una gran mayoría, prefieren otras cosas más interesantes e importantes –el becerro de oro-. La fe prácticamente está en descrédito. Grandes sectores de bautizados viven como si Dios ya no les dijera nada y han dejado de practicar sus enseñanzas. Son cristianos de nombre, pero no de hecho. Hoy hay mucha gente que tal vez no entienda nuestro lenguaje sobre la fe e incluso tal vez la puede llegar a malinterpretar, pero se quedan cuestionados por las obras de amor de muchos cristianos.

El evangelio de hoy nos ha narrado una disputa de Jesús con los judíos. También Jesús se sintió incomprendido, rechazado y atacado; no comprendían sus palabras. Por eso él apela a las obras que hace, pues ellas hablan de quién es Él y quién le envía. Las obras son irrefutables y las personas de recta intención las entienden y comprenden.

Para vivir una vida auténtica y profundamente religiosa se necesita haber tenido la experiencia de “sentirse dependiente de Dios”, unidos a Él con un vínculo indisoluble, como el hijo se siente unido con sus padres. Cuando uno se siente profundamente hijo de Dios brotan en él actitudes espirituales y prácticas que caracterizan la vida de la persona y la diferencian de los demás. El creyente, por ejemplo, en la prueba no abandona a Dios como si fuera la causa del mal, sino que se vuelve más hacia Él con una insistencia invencible como Moisés que intercedió por su pueblo cuando esté se construyó el becerro de oro ofendiendo gravemente al Señor. Por otra parte el creyente adulto en la fe siente como prueba personal las pruebas de sus hermanos próximos o lejanos; ora por todos y es un intercesor universal dispuesto a cargar con las debilidades de los demás y sufrir para que los otros sean aliviados, como hizo Moisés por su pueblo, y sobre todo Jesús el inocente muerto como pecador por nosotros, injustos.

La existencia de un Dios que es Amor no se demuestra más que dejando transparentar que vive en los corazones de quienes le acogen; Jesús será creído cuando los que creemos en Él vivamos con autenticidad sus enseñanzas: “vosotros sois mis discípulos si hacéis lo que Yo os mando”. Ante personas que entregan su vida a los más débiles, que no acusan sino que suplican y perdonan a quienes les ofenden, suele surgir la pregunta: ¿por qué actúan así? Y es que las obras tienen un valor incuestionable e irrefutable; ante una persona de bien no cabe más que la admiración y la imitación. Como dice Jesús “si no me creéis a Mí, creed a las obras que hago”. Hoy más que nunca el testimonio coherente de los cristianos cambiará el mundo y lo hará un poco más humano.

“Espíritu Santo, tranquiliza mi corazón y ayúdame a leer tu Palabra con ojos renovados, para que tu revelación penetre en mi vida y me lleve a imitar más a Cristo.” Amen

Anunciacion

Lc 1, 26-38

En aquel tiempo, el ángel Gabriel fue enviado por Dios a una ciudad de Galilea, llamada Nazaret, a una virgen desposada con un varón de la estirpe de David, llamado José. La virgen se llamaba María.

Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad de la Anunciación del Señor dentro de la Cuaresma, tiempo de preparación para celebrar y vivir la Pascua, la Solemnidad de las solemnidades.

En la Anunciación María está en el centro de la escena, ella es la protagonista más eminente, y a la vez es el modelo para el discípulo de Jesús. María es la mujer que escuchó el mensaje del ángel, dialogó con él, discernió en su corazón y decidió generosamente hacer la voluntad de Dios. Ella puso su vida al servició de Dios para que se pudieran realizar los planes de salvación de la humanidad. Ella permitió que el Espíritu Santo fecundara sus entrañas y así el Hijo de Dios asumiera nuestra carne para redimirla del pecado.

María es la primera y verdadera discípula de Jesús, y el modelo para todo discípulo que quiera seguir a Jesús. Ella brilla en la comunidad creyente como el ejemplo más claro de santidad y fidelidad a Dios.

El discípulo de Jesús debe hacer como María: escuchar la voz del Maestro en lo profundo de su corazón sin ambigüedades, discernir con claridad y sinceridad el querer de Jesús en su vida, permitir que el Espíritu Santo se haga fecundo en su vida, ofrecerse como siervo y cumplir el querer de Jesús. De esta forma el discípulo hace de su vida riesgo, abandono de seguridades, entrega generosa, apertura sin límites y crecimiento insospechado bajo la acción del Espíritu Santo.

Dios en un momento determinado de la Historia de la Salvación pidió la colaboración de María para realizar su proyecto. Hoy también sigue necesitando de nosotros, los discípulos de Jesús, para encarnarse en el mundo y darse a conocer a los hombres. María aceptó de corazón la voluntad de Dios y el Hijo de Dios se hizo hombre; nosotros aceptando la voluntad de Dios en nuestras vidas le permitimos que siga actuando en el mundo y que su Proyecto se vaya realizando en la humanidad. María tuvo la misión de ser la Madre de Jesús; nosotros tenemos la misión de hacer presente el Mensaje del Señor entre nuestros compatriotas y más allá de nuestras fronteras. Como María somos discípulos-misioneros: lo que recibimos los damos; lo que aprendemos lo comunicamos; lo que vivimos lo damos a conocer, pues todo es gracia de Dios para nosotros y para los demás. Un discípulo de Jesús no puede ser egoísta y guardarse los dones y cualidades recibidos solo para sí mismo. María fue cubierta por el Espíritu Santo, los discípulos de Jesús también hemos recibido esa fuerza de lo alto que nos llena de coraje y valentía para dar testimonio de nuestra fe, y como María también cada uno hemos escuchado “no temas, yo estoy contigo”. El paralitico

Jn 5, 1-16

Era un día de fiesta para los judíos, cuando Jesús subió a Jerusalén. Hay en Jerusalén, junto a la puerta de las Ovejas, una piscina llamada Betesdá, en hebreo, con cinco pórticos, bajo los cuales yacía una multitud de enfermos, ciegos, cojos y paralíticos. Entre ellos estaba un hombre que llevaba treinta y ocho años enfermo.

Al verlo ahí tendido y sabiendo que ya llevaba mucho tiempo en tal estado, Jesús le dijo: “¿Quieres curarte?” Le respondió el enfermo: “Señor, no tengo a nadie que me meta en la piscina cuando se agita el agua. Cuando logro llegar, ya otro ha bajado antes que yo”. Jesús le dijo: “Levántate, toma tu camilla y anda”. Al momento el hombre quedó curado, tomó su camilla y se puso a andar.

Aquel día era sábado. Por eso los judíos le dijeron al que había sido curado: “No te es lícito cargar tu camilla”. Pero él contestó: “El que me curó me dijo: ‘Toma tu camilla y anda’ ”. Ellos le preguntaron: “¿Quién es el que te dijo: ‘Toma tu camilla y anda’?” Pero el que había sido curado no lo sabía, porque Jesús había desaparecido entre la muchedumbre. Más tarde lo encontró Jesús en el templo y le dijo: “Mira, ya quedaste sano. No peques más, no sea que te vaya a suceder algo peor”. Aquel hombre fue y les contó a los judíos que el que lo había curado era Jesús. Por eso los judíos perseguían a Jesús, porque hacía estas cosas en sábado.

El Evangelio nos presenta a un paralítico que es curado treinta y ocho años después por el poder de la Palabra de Jesús y no por haber entrado en la piscina. Este hombre se curó por haber entrado en contacto con el Señor; y le curó de la parálisis y de algo peor “el pecado” que nos desconecta de Dios y de su proyecto, y es causa de otras parálisis personales: el egoísmo, el odio, el rencor, la envidia, la injusticia… que nos destruyen como personas.

Cuando Jesús sale al encuentro del paralítico se interesa primero por su voluntad “¿quieres?”. Después pronuncia su palabra poderosa que le pone en pie. Dios, en Jesús, se ha acercado a los enfermos, ciegos, cojos, paralíticos, a los deseosos de sanar, de caminar, de anunciar, de cuestionar el mundo que los quiere postrados. El hecho de que Jesús ordene al paralítico curado que cargue con su camilla en sábado lo introduce en un ámbito nuevo, en el que lo importante no es saber qué trabajos puede hacer en sábado, sino liberar a las personas de todo aquello que les paraliza y les impide ser felices y vivir con dignidad y libertad. Por eso Jesús se opone con fuerza y valentía a que el pecado, las críticas o la legislación lo bloqueen en su proyecto de vida, de resurrección y salvación.

Al hombre de hoy, y de siempre, sentado en los límites de la esperanza sin poder comprometerse con la vida, desilusionado de los demás y con frecuencia también de la religión, es al que Cristo viene a buscar allí donde se encuentre, paralizado por el sufrimiento, el pecado o por las distintas circunstancias de la vida. A este hombre Jesús le pregunta sencillamente “¿Quieres curarte? Y si como el paralítico le dice “Señor, no tengo a nadie que me eche una mano”, oirá de Jesús “Levántate y echa a andar”. No son los ritos vacíos o alguna agua milagrosa o una estampita o una medallita la que cura, sino el poder de la Palabra de Jesús que recrea, rompe las ataduras que nos aprisionan, y sobre todo nos libera del pecado y sus consecuencias. Jesús en el corazón del hombre es “el surtidor de agua que salta hasta la vida eterna”, como él mismo le dijo a la Samaritana. La presencia de Jesús transforma el corazón de las personas y las hace vivir con ilusión y esperanza. Por eso el hombre vive en plenitud cuando Dios está en él.

“Señor Jesús, concédeme la gracia de estar siempre consciente de que tú vives en mí.” Amen
