Ojo con escandalizar...

Mc 9, 41-50 

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Todo aquel que les dé a beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que son de Cristo, les aseguro que no se quedará sin recompensa. 

Al que sea ocasión de pecado para esta gente sencilla que cree en mí, más le valdría que le pusieran al cuello una de esas enormes piedras de molino y lo arrojaran al mar. 

Si tu mano te es ocasión de pecado, córtatela; pues más te vale entrar manco en la vida eterna, que ir con tus dos manos al lugar de castigo, al fuego que no se apaga. Y si tu pie te es ocasión de pecado, córtatelo; pues más te vale entrar cojo en la vida eterna, que con tus dos pies ser arrojado al lugar de castigo. Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de pecado, sácatelo; pues más te vale entrar tuerto en el Reino de Dios, que ser arrojado con tus dos ojos al lugar de castigo, donde el gusano no muere y el fuego no se apaga. 
Todos serán salados con fuego. La sal es cosa buena; pero si pierde su sabor, ¿con qué se lo volverán a dar? Tengan sal en ustedes y tengan paz los unos con los otros".

GospelMK 9:41-50

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink
because you belong to Christ,
amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.

"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,   
it would be better for him if a great millstone
were put around his neck
and he were thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life maimed   
than with two hands to go into Gehenna,
into the unquenchable fire.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life crippled   
than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna.
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.
Better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God with one eye
than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna,
where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. 

"Everyone will be salted with fire.
Salt is good, but if salt becomes insipid,
with what will you restore its flavor?
Keep salt in yourselves and you will have peace with one another."

Meditacion:

El evangelio de hoy es polemico y no deja ningun margen a la duda o el error.

Y leido en esta semana, a pocos dias de haberse terminado el sinodo de obispos sobre violencia sexual en el Vaticano y a pocos dias de que la Iglesia Metodista rechazara los hermanos y hermanas gays y lesbianas, es simplemente, muy adecuado.

Por un lado,  El Papa Francisco está haciendo todo lo posible por aclarar hechos, restituir en lo posible a las víctimas y establecer los mecanismos adecuados para que estas aberraciones no se repitan. Lamentablemente, se perdio una oportunidad muy grande de llegar a un entendimiento mas profundo en este tema y en realidad, el sinodo se diluyo sin lograr nada concreto.

Por el otro, la segunda Iglesia mas grande de USA rechazo los hermanos gays y lesbianas como no parte de ellos. Es triste ver como se dejan de lado personas que tambien tienen necesidad de Dios.

El Señor es muy claro en el evangelio de hoy: “El que escandalice a uno de estos pequeñuelos que creen, más le valdría que le encajasen en el cuello una piedra de molino y lo echasen al mar”. No seré yo el que condene a nadie, pues la misericordia de Dios actuará en el momento conveniente, pero no se encuentran palabras tan duras en labios de Jesús como estas que meditamos hoy.

Ninguno estamos libres de caer en el mal. Con la Palabra de Dios debemos confrontarnos nosotros, no los otros. Por ello, aunque haya pecados abominables en las Iglesias que denunciamos con dolor, hoy nosotros  miramos a nuestro interior pidiéndole la gracia de no sucumbir jamás al pecado de ningún tipo contra seres inocentes.

El pasaje del Eclesiástico de la primera lectura de  hoy también es muy claro: “No digas: «He pecado, y ¿qué me ha pasado?», porque el Señor sabe esperar. Del perdón no te sientas tan seguro, mientras acumulas pecado tras pecado. [ ] No tardes en convertirte al Señor, ni lo dejes de un día para otro, porque de repente la ira del Señor se enciende, y el día del castigo perecerás.”

Oramos hoy por todas las víctimas que han sufrido estos criminales abusos y también por sus autores, por su conversión y arrepentimiento. Oramos por nosotros mismos, para que estemos siempre atentos y vigilantes para no sucumbir a ningún pecado que lesione la integridad física o moral de ningún pequeño/a. Dice el evangelio de hoy en su último versículo: “Buena es la sal; pero si la sal se vuelve sosa, ¿con qué la salaréis? Tened sal entre vosotros y vivid en paz unos con otros” Que así sea Señor.

“Señor, te pido que me ayudes a ocupar cada uno de los sentidos y talentos que me has dado para amarte más profundamente a ti y a los que has puesto a mi cuidado.” Amen

The gospel of today is controversial and leaves no room for doubt or error.

None of us are free to fall into evil. With the Word of God we must confront ourselves, not the others. Therefore, although there are abominable sins in the Churches that we denounce with pain, today we look inside asking for the grace never to succumb to sin of any kind against innocent beings.

The passage of the Ecclesiastical of the first reading of today is also very clear: "Do not say:" I have sinned, and what has happened to me? ", Because the Lord knows how to wait. Of forgiveness do not feel so safe, while you accumulate sin after sin. [] Do not delay in turning to the Lord, nor forsake it from one day to the next, for suddenly the wrath of the Lord is kindled, and the day of punishment you shall perish. "

El que no esta contra nosotros, esta a favor

Mc 9, 38-40

En aquel tiempo, Juan le dijo a Jesús: "Hemos visto a uno que expulsaba a los demonios en tu nombre, y como no es de los nuestros, se lo prohibimos". Pero Jesús le respondió: "No se lo prohíban, porque no hay ninguno que haga milagros en mi nombre, que luego sea capaz de hablar mal de mí. Todo aquel que no está contra nosotros, está a nuestro favor".

"Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name,
and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us."

For whoever is not against us is for us."

Meditacion:

El evangelio de hoy es una bofetada a nuestras creencias. No es de los nuestros, no es de nuestra raza, no es de nuestro color, no cree lo que nosotros creemos, no es de la misma orientacion sexual.. y asi podria seguir todo el dia.

Nos hemos llenado de barreras, de peajes y pasos en los cuales unos son aceptados y otros rechazados.

Cuantas veces yo les he dicho que usemos la teologia para construir puentes, no para separar fronteras!

Jesus ni se preocupa por saber quien era el que expulsaba demonios. El era consciente que su gracia no comenzaba y terminaba en El, que el Espiritu Santo podia manifestarse en otras personas y lo dice bien claro: " Todo aquel que no está contra nosotros, está a nuestro favor".

Hermanos dejemos de cuidar fronteras que no sirven, mentales, economicas, fisicas... la clave es el amor al projimo que nos permite aceptarlos tal y como son, sin cambiar nada.

Amar al projimo no es sencillo, sin duda nos cambiaria la vida pero es es el comienzo de dejar de estar en contra y pasar a estar a favor. Amen

The gospel of today is a slap in the face of our beliefs. It is not ours, it is not of our race, it is not our color, it does not believe what we believe, it is not of the same sexual orientation .. and so it could continue all day.

We have filled ourselves with barriers, with tolls and steps in which some are accepted and others rejected.

How many times have I told you to use theology to build bridges, not to separate borders!

Jesus does not care to know who was the one who expelled demons. He was aware that his grace did not begin and ended in him, that the Holy Spirit could manifest itself in other people and he says it very clearly: "Everyone who is not against us is in our favor".

Brothers let's stop taking care of borders that are not useful, mental, economic, physical ... the key is the love of neighbor that allows us to accept them as they are, without changing anything.

Loving the neighbor is not easy, without a doubt it would change our lives but it is the beginning to stop being against and to be in favor. Amen

Recibamos a los niños

Mc 9, 30-37

En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos atravesaban Galilea, pero él no quería que nadie lo supiera, porque iba enseñando a sus discípulos. Les decía: "El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres; le darán muerte, y tres días después de muerto, resucitará". Pero ellos no entendían aquellas palabras y tenían miedo de pedir explicaciones. 

Llegaron a Cafarnaúm, y una vez en casa, les preguntó: "¿De qué discutían por el camino?" Pero ellos se quedaron callados, porque en el camino habían discutido sobre quién de ellos era el más importante. Entonces Jesús se sentó, llamó a los Doce y les dijo: "Si alguno quiere ser el primero, que sea el último de todos y el servidor de todos". 

Después, tomando a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos, lo abrazó y les dijo: "El que reciba en mi nombre a uno de estos niños, a mí me recibe. Y el que me reciba a mí, no me recibe a mí, sino a aquel que me ha enviado".

GospelMK 9:30-37

Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee,
but he did not wish anyone to know about it. 
He was teaching his disciples and telling them,

Hoy leemos de "La palabra entre nosotros":

¡Qué ejemplo más impresionante nos da Cristo en el Evangelio de hoy! Jesús, el Hijo de Dios, el Señor del universo, tomó a un niñito en brazos y lo mostró a sus discípulos. Con este simple gesto, Cristo estaba demostrando no solamente lo tierno y cariñoso que es, sino enseñando a los Doce la actitud que ellos mismos debían tener.

Jesús aprovechó este episodio para dar a conocer la gran diferencia entre el deseo humano de adquirir poder y prestigio y el deseo del Padre de que sus hijos estén dispuestos a aceptar y favorecer a los humildes y los indefensos. De hecho, Cristo hizo una declaración radical al identificarse con los débiles, los necesitados y los sencillos, diciendo que quien recibiera a un niño en su nombre lo recibía a él mismo.

Día tras día nos bombardean las noticias de lo que hacen los ricos y famosos, los poderosos y los privilegiados; la sociedad nos incita a imitar a los que están dedicados a conseguir más dinero, fama e influencia. Pero nadie se acuerda de los pobres y los débiles. ¡Esto es lo contrario de lo que enseñó Jesús! Él mismo vino al mundo sin pompa ni ceremonia, sino indefenso y humilde. Poco a poco, escuchando la enseñanza y viendo el ejemplo de Cristo, los discípulos fueron entendiendo que la idea de grandeza y liderazgo que él y el Padre tenían era radicalmente distinta. En efecto, la verdad de Jesús es absolutamente diferente de las imágenes que vemos en la televisión, el cine y en muchas “celebridades”. Los cristianos también tenemos que aprender a distinguir entre la vida nueva y verdadera del Reino de Dios y la vida aparentemente “buena” pero engañosa que nos ofrece el mundo.

Trata de mantener presente la imagen de Cristo con el niño en brazos y procura discernir qué te dice esta figura acerca de lo que es la grandeza ante los ojos de Dios y no la pierdas de vista al considerar cómo quiere el Señor que le sirvas. Esta imagen puede guiar tus pensamientos y tu corazón al buscar el camino de la grandeza en el Reino de Dios. Y mientras te imaginas a Jesús con el niño en brazos, piensa en aquello que quisieras pedirle al Señor para que tu actitud frente a él sea la misma del niño.

“Jesús, Rey y Señor mío, enséñame a servir como tú lo hiciste; a buscar a los débiles e indefensos para ayudarles en tu nombre. Abre mis ojos, Señor, para recibirte a ti en ellos.” Amen

Fe, ayuno y oracion

Mc 9, 14-29 

En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús bajó del monte y llegó al sitio donde estaban sus discípulos, vio que mucha gente los rodeaba y que algunos escribas discutían con ellos. Cuando la gente vio a Jesús, se impresionó mucho y corrió a saludarlo. 

Él les preguntó: "¿De qué están discutiendo?" De entre la gente, uno le contestó: "Maestro, te he traído a mi hijo, que tiene un espíritu que no lo deja hablar; cada vez que se apodera de él, lo tira al suelo y el muchacho echa espumarajos, rechina los dientes y se queda tieso. Les he pedido a tus discípulos que lo expulsen, pero no han podido". 

Jesús les contestó: "¡Gente incrédula! ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que estar con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que soportarlos? Tráiganme al muchacho". Y se lo trajeron. En cuanto el espíritu vio a Jesús, se puso a retorcer al muchacho; lo derribó por tierra y lo revolcó, haciéndolo echar espumarajos. Jesús le preguntó al padre: "¿Cuánto tiempo hace que le pasa esto?" Contestó el padre: "Desde pequeño. Y muchas veces lo ha arrojado al fuego y al agua para acabar con él. Por eso, si algo puedes, ten compasión de nosotros y ayúdanos". 

Jesús le replicó: "¿Qué quiere decir eso de 'si puedes'? Todo es posible para el que tiene fe". Entonces el padre del muchacho exclamó entre lágrimas: "Creo, Señor; pero dame tú la fe que me falta". Jesús, al ver que la gente acudía corriendo, reprendió al espíritu inmundo, diciéndole: "Espíritu mudo y sordo, yo te lo mando: Sal de él y no vuelvas a entrar en él". Entre gritos y convulsiones violentas salió el espíritu. El muchacho se quedó como muerto, de modo que la mayoría decía que estaba muerto. Pero Jesús lo tomó de la mano, lo levantó y el muchacho se puso de pie. 

Al entrar en una casa con sus discípulos, éstos le preguntaron a Jesús en privado: "¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsarlo?" Él les respondió: "Esta clase de demonios no sale sino a fuerza de oración y de ayuno".

GospelMK 9:14-29

As Jesus came down from the mountain with Peter, James, John
and approached the other disciples,
they saw a large crowd around them and scribes arguing with them.
Immediately on seeing him,
the whole crowd was utterly amazed.
They ran up to him and greeted him. 
He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?”
Someone from the crowd answered him,
“Teacher, I have brought to you my son possessed by a mute spirit.
Wherever it seizes him, it throws him down;
he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid.
I asked your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable to do so.”
He said to them in reply,
“O faithless generation, how long will I be with you?
How long will I endure you? Bring him to me.” 
They brought the boy to him.
And when he saw him,
the spirit immediately threw the boy into convulsions.
As he fell to the ground, he began to roll around   
and foam at the mouth. 
Then he questioned his father,
“How long has this been happening to him?” 
He replied, “Since childhood.
It has often thrown him into fire and into water to kill him.
But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
Jesus said to him,
“‘If you can!’ Everything is possible to one who has faith.”
Then the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
Jesus, on seeing a crowd rapidly gathering,
rebuked the unclean spirit and said to it,
“Mute and deaf spirit, I command you:
come out of him and never enter him again!”
Shouting and throwing the boy into convulsions, it came out.
He became like a corpse, which caused many to say, “He is dead!”
But Jesus took him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up.
When he entered the house, his disciples asked him in private,
“Why could we not drive the spirit out?”
He said to them, “This kind can only come out through prayer.”

Meditacion:

Hay  tres cosas que hoy debemos rescatar de este evangelio. Por un lado, sin fe no vamos a ningun lado; por el otro, sin oracion y ayuno, tampoco.

Ya vamos entrando lentamente en tiempo de cuaresma; aun falta un domingo para que llegue el miercoles de ceniza, 6 de marzo.

Y las escrituras siguen hablando de fe.

No hay manera que nuestra fe crezca si no es de la mano de la oracion. El ayuno es menos valorado en la vida cristiana y sin embargo, tiene un enorme valor espiritual.

Disciplinar nuestro cuerpo ayunando es una forma de oracion que casi no se practica ya pero es de un valor enorme en lo espiritual. 

La semana que viene ya estaremos "casi"entrando en tiempo de cuaresma. Con tiempo les ire explicando como ayunar los viernes, sin comer carne, contribuyendo de esa manera a otro tipo de oracion.

Mientras tanto, solo por hoy dia, meditemos esta frase tan contundente y bella de Jesus "Todo es posible para el que tiene fe"

Pero ¿qué es la fe? Así como el pajarillo percibe la luz que se aproxima y entona su trino para saludar la alborada cuanto todavía está oscuro, así también es la fe en Dios, que sabe que obtendrá lo pedido aun cuando parezca no haber esperanza. ¿Qué es la oración? Santa Teresita de Lisieux decía que es “un impulso del corazón; una sencilla mirada hacia lo alto del cielo, un grito de reconocimiento y amor, que acepta la prueba y el gozo al mismo tiempo.” En otras palabras, es tanto una humilde apertura y una confiada respuesta a la presencia y la voluntad de Dios.

¿Quieres tú experimentar libertad en tu vida? ¿Quieres ver que tu familiar o tu amigo recupere la salud por completo? Cree de todo corazón y ora con todas tus fuerzas, porque Jesús ha venido a liberar a todo su pueblo y no se alegra del sufrimiento de nadie. Cree que el Señor quiere curar y liberar a los que sufren y quitar el pecado que nos mantiene esclavizados. No dejes nunca de orar, ni siquiera hasta el último momento; más bien mantén una actitud de fe y confianza y sigue insistiendo. Ten la certeza de que, al poner la situación en manos de Jesús, el Señor prevalecerá según su sabiduría y su poder. Y lo mejor es hacer oración profunda y concentrada para obtener lo que pedimos, y mejor aún si lo acompañamos con ayuno, como lo recomienda el Señor.

“Jesús, Señor y Dios mío, te doy gracias por salvarme y librarme del pecado. Enséñame a creer más y a orar con más confianza. Señor, ¡quiero ver tu poder en acción el día de hoy! Amén

There are three things that we must rescue today from this gospel. On the one hand, without faith we do not go anywhere; on the other, without prayer and fasting, either.

We are already slowly entering the season of Lent; There is still a Sunday to arrive on Ash Wednesday, March 6.

There is no way that our faith grows if it is not by the hand of prayer. Fasting is less valued in the Christian life and yet it has enormous spiritual value.

Next week we will be "almost" entering the season of Lent. With time I will explain how to fast on Fridays, without eating meat, thus contributing to another type of prayer.

In the meantime, just for today, let's meditate on this powerful and beautiful phrase of Jesus "Everything is possible for those who have faith"

But what is faith? Just as the bird perceives the approaching light and intones its trill to greet the dawn when it is still dark, so is the faith in God, who knows that he will obtain the request even when there seems to be no hope. What is prayer? St. Therese of Lisieux said that it is "an impulse of the heart; a simple look at the top of the sky, a cry of recognition and love, which accepts the test and the joy at the same time. "In other words, it is both a humble opening and a confident response to the presence and will of God.

Do you want to experience freedom in your life? Do you want to see your family member or your friend recover completely? Believe with all your heart and pray with all your strength, because Jesus has come to liberate all his people and is not happy about the suffering of anyone. He believes that the Lord wants to heal and liberate those who suffer and remove the sin that keeps us enslaved. Never stop praying, not even until the last moment; rather, maintain an attitude of faith and trust and keep insisting. Be certain that by placing the situation in the hands of Jesus, the Lord will prevail according to his wisdom and power. And the best thing is to do deep and concentrated prayer to obtain what we ask for, and better still if we accompany it with fasting, as the Lord recommends.

"Jesus, Lord and my God, I thank you for saving me and freeing me from sin. Teach me to believe more and pray with more confidence. Sir, I want to see your power in action today! Amen."

Mc 9, 2-13

En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó aparte a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, subió con ellos a un monte alto y se transfiguró en su presencia. Sus vestiduras se pusieron esplendorosamente blancas, con una blancura que nadie puede lograr sobre la tierra. Después se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, conversando con Jesús. 

Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: "Maestro, ¡qué a gusto estamos aquí! Hagamos tres chozas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías". En realidad no sabía lo que decía, porque estaban asustados. 

Se formó entonces una nube, que los cubrió con su sombra, y de esta nube salió una voz que decía: "Éste es mi Hijo amado; escúchenlo". En ese momento miraron alrededor y no vieron a nadie sino a Jesús, que estaba solo con ellos. 

Cuando bajaban de la montaña, Jesús les mandó que no contaran a nadie lo que habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de entre los muertos. Ellos guardaron esto en secreto, pero discutían entre sí qué querría decir eso de 'resucitar de entre los muertos'. 

Le preguntaron a Jesús: "¿Por qué dicen los escribas que primero tiene que venir Elías?" Él les contestó: "Si fuera cierto que Elías tiene que venir primero y tiene que poner todo en orden, entonces ¿cómo es que está escrito que el Hijo del hombre tiene que padecer mucho y ser despreciado? Por lo demás, yo les aseguro que Elías ha venido ya y lo trataron a su antojo, como estaba escrito de él".

GospelMK 9:2-13

Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
then from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, the disciples no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.
Then they asked him,
“Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
He told them, “Elijah will indeed come first and restore all things,
yet how is it written regarding the Son of Man
that he must suffer greatly and be treated with contempt?
But I tell you that Elijah has come
and they did to him whatever they pleased,
as it is written of him.”

Meditacion:

Despues de una semana en que hemos estado leyendo casi exclusivamente sobre la fe, el evangelio nos regala hoy una vision gloriosa de Jesus.

El evangelio de la transfiguracion me recuerda cuando uno tiene ese encuentro intimo y final con Dios.. suele ser al final de un retiro, suele ser en algun momento en que Dios toca nuestro corazon y entonces nos quedamos con la misma sensacion que tuvieron los apostoles "Maestro, ¡qué a gusto estamos aquí" porque nos sentimos amados, comprendidos, escuchados por nuestro creador.

Somos discípulos de Jesús, que continúan aprendiendo lo que significa ser seguidores suyos. Necesitamos recibir diariamente la enseñanza de Cristo y “escuchar la voz de Dios que nos llama desde la cima de la montaña… para ir [hasta allí] de prisa, como Jesús” (Sermón de San Anastasio), porque necesitamos su instrucción, su consuelo y su fortaleza, para que así experimentemos ahora mismo una parte de la plenitud que conoceremos cuando Jesús regrese en toda su gloria.

Cada día nos llama el Padre para que seamos renovados por su Hijo: en la Eucaristía, en la oración personal, en la meditación de su palabra o en el silencio de su presencia: “Sin duda, es bueno estar con Jesús y permanecer [con él] para siempre” (San Anastasio).

“Jesús, amado Salvador, no hay felicidad más grande que estar en comunión contigo y vivir en la luz. Ayúdanos a cumplir fielmente tus mandamientos y vivir según el amor y la verdad.” Amen

After a week in which we have been reading almost exclusively on faith, the Gospel today gives us a glorious vision of Jesus.

The gospel of the transfiguration reminds me when one has that intimate and final encounter with God ... it is usually at the end of a retreat, it is usually at some time when God touches our heart and then we are left with the same feeling that the apostles had "Teacher, how happy we are here" because we feel loved, understood, listened to by our creator.

We are disciples of Jesus, who continue to learn what it means to be his followers. We need to receive daily the teaching of Christ and "listen to the voice of God who calls us from the mountaintop ... to go [there] in haste, like Jesus" (Sermon de San Anastasio), because we need his instruction, his consolation and his strength, so that we may experience right now a part of the fullness that we will know when Jesus returns in all his glory.

Every day the Father calls us to be renewed by his Son: in the Eucharist, in personal prayer, in the meditation of his word or in the silence of his presence: "Without a doubt, it is good to be with Jesus and to remain [with he] forever "(San Anastasio).

"Jesus, beloved Savior, there is no happiness greater than being in communion with you and living in the light. Help us to faithfully fulfill your commandments and live according to love and truth. "Amen

San Pedro

Mt 16, 13-19 

En aquel tiempo, cuando llegó Jesús a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, hizo esta pregunta a sus discípulos: "¿Quién dice la gente que es el Hijo del hombre?" Ellos le respondieron: "Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; otros, que Jeremías o alguno de los profetas". 

Luego les preguntó: "Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?" Simón Pedro tomó la palabra y le dijo: "Tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios vivo". Jesús le dijo entonces: "¡Dichoso tú, Simón, hijo de Juan, porque esto no te lo ha revelado ningún hombre, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos! Y yo te digo a ti que tú eres Pedro y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia. Los poderes del infierno no prevalecerán sobre ella. Yo te daré las llaves del Reino de los cielos; todo lo que ates en la tierra quedará atado en el cielo y todo lo que desates en la tierra quedará desatado en el cielo".

GospelMT 16:13-19

When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi
he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,
still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter said in reply, 
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
And so I say to you, you are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my Church,
and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven.
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Meditacion:

Hoy se celebra a San Pedro, primer Papa de la Iglesia Catolica y por lo tanto las lecturas y el salmo aluden a los pastores, clerigos y sacerdotes encargados de guiar al pueblo de Dios.

En la primera lectura, un parrafo especialmente me llamo la atencion por lo actual:

"Apacienten el rebaño que Dios les ha confiado y cuiden de él no como obligados por la fuerza, sino de buena gana, como Dios quiere; no por ambición de dinero, sino con entrega generosa; no como si ustedes fueran los dueños de las comunidades que se les han confiado, sino dando buen ejemplo. Y cuando aparezca el Pastor supremo, recibirán el premio inmortal de la gloria"

En este momento que por alli vemos sacerdotes cansados y sin ganas, este fragmento de una de las cartas de San Pedro nos invita a renacer con mas fuerzas.

Pero volviendo al evangelio, San Pedro no siempre fue la roca que Jesus parece mostrarnos en el evangelio de hoy... personalmente me parece alguien que era bastante bipolar... amaba a Jesus pero lo niega 3 veces; tiene bastantes arrebatos de enojo, se confunde muchas veces... uno pensaria que no es precisamente la persona para llevar a cabo la fundacion de la Iglesia primitiva.

Pero una cosa lo salvaba: Amaba entrañablemente al Señor Jesús y fue dócil a la inspiración del Espíritu Santo. Con el correr de los años, su apostolado se fue perfilando claramente, y su carácter se fue forjando en el crisol de la persecución y el sufrimiento; solo el amor y la fidelidad a Cristo le permitieron llegar hasta el final. Por eso, ahora, al escuchar la lectura de su primera carta, vemos que finalmente llegó a ser, no solo un cristiano maduro y sabio, sino el primer Papa de la Iglesia.

Así también, si todos nos mantenemos unidos a Cristo y nos dedicamos a la oración, la meditación de la Palabra de Dios, la recepción de los Sacramentos y el servicio al prójimo, podemos llegar a ser también cristianos sabios y maduros y llenos de fe.

“Señor, crea un mí un corazón nuevo para conocerte, amarte y vivir en tu Iglesia el mandamiento nuevo del amor y la nueva alianza que has querido establecer libremente conmigo y con todos los que te aman.” Amen

Today is celebrated Saint Peter, first Pope of the Catholic Church and therefore the readings and the psalm allude to the pastors, clergy and priests in charge of guiding the people of God.

In the first reading, a paragraph especially called my attention for the current:

"Feed the flock that God has entrusted to you and take care of it not as forced by force, but willingly, as God wants, not for the ambition of money, but with generous dedication, not as if you were the owners of the communities that they have been entrusted, if not giving a good example, and when the supreme Shepherd appears, they will receive the immortal prize of glory "

At this moment that we see priests tired and reluctant, this fragment of one of the letters of St. Peter invites us to be reborn with more strength.

But going back to the gospel, Saint Peter was not always the rock that Jesus seems to show us in today's Gospel ... personally I find someone who was quite bipolar ... he loved Jesus but he denies it 3 times; he has many outbursts of anger, he is confused many times ... one would think that he is not precisely the person to carry out the foundation of the primitive Church.

But one thing saved him: He loved the Lord Jesus dearly and was docile to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Over the years, his apostolate was clearly outlined, and his character was forged in the crucible of persecution and suffering; only love and fidelity to Christ allowed him to reach the end. Therefore, now, upon hearing the reading of his first letter, we see that he finally became, not only a mature and wise Christian, but the first Pope of the Church.

Likewise, if we all remain united to Christ and dedicate ourselves to prayer, meditation on the Word of God, reception of the Sacraments and service to others, we can also become wise and mature Christians and full of faith.

"Lord, create a new heart for me to know you, love you and live in your Church the new commandment of love and the new covenant you have wanted to establish freely with me and with all those who love you." Amen
