Lc 1, 26-38

GospelLK 1:26-38
The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

Meditacion
Amen

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord within Lent, a time of preparation to celebrate and live Easter, the Solemnity of solemnities.
In the Annunciation Mary is at the center of the scene, she is the most eminent protagonist, and at the same time she is the model for the disciple of Jesus. Mary is the woman who heard the angel's message, spoke with him, discerned in her heart and generously decided to do the will of God. She put her life at the service of God so that humanity's salvation plans could be realized. She allowed the Holy Spirit to fertilize her insides and thus the Son of God assumed our flesh to redeem it from sin.
Mary is the first and true disciple of Jesus, and the model for every disciple who wants to follow Jesus. She shines in the believing community as the clearest example of holiness and fidelity to God.
The disciple of Jesus must do like Mary: listen to the voice of the Master in the depths of his heart without ambiguity, discern clearly and sincerely the will of Jesus in his life, allow the Holy Spirit to become fruitful in his life, offer himself as servant and fulfill the will of Jesus. In this way the disciple makes his life a risk, abandonment of securities, generous dedication, openness without limits and unsuspected growth under the action of the Holy Spirit.
God at a certain moment in the History of Salvation asked for the collaboration of Mary to carry out his project. Today also continues to need us, the disciples of Jesus, to incarnate in the world and make himself known to men. Mary accepted the will of God from the heart and the Son of God became man; we accepting the will of God in our lives allow him to continue acting in the world and that his Project is carried out in humanity. Mary had the mission of being the Mother of Jesus; we have the mission of making present the Message of the Lord among our compatriots and beyond our borders. Like Mary we are missionary disciples: what we receive we give; what we learn we communicate; what we live we make known, because everything is God's grace for us and for others. A disciple of Jesus cannot be selfish and keep the gifts and qualities received only for himself. Mary was covered by the Holy Spirit, the disciples of Jesus have also received that strength from above that fills us with courage and bravery to bear witness to our faith, and as Mary we have also each heard "do not fear, I am with you" . Amen
