Jn 4, 43-54

GospelJN 4:43-54
At that time Jesus left [Samaria] for Galilee.
For Jesus himself testified
that a prophet has no honor in his native place.
When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him,
since they had seen all he had done in Jerusalem at the feast;
for they themselves had gone to the feast.
For Jesus himself testified
that a prophet has no honor in his native place.
When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him,
since they had seen all he had done in Jerusalem at the feast;
for they themselves had gone to the feast.
Then he returned to Cana in Galilee,
where he had made the water wine.
Now there was a royal official whose son was ill in Capernaum.
When he heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea,
he went to him and asked him to come down
and heal his son, who was near death.
Jesus said to him,
“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”
The royal official said to him,
“Sir, come down before my child dies.”
Jesus said to him, “You may go; your son will live.”
The man believed what Jesus said to him and left.
While the man was on his way back,
his slaves met him and told him that his boy would live.
He asked them when he began to recover.
They told him,
“The fever left him yesterday, about one in the afternoon.”
The father realized that just at that time Jesus had said to him,
“Your son will live,”
and he and his whole household came to believe.
Now this was the second sign Jesus did
when he came to Galilee from Judea.
where he had made the water wine.

Meditacion:
Amen

John tells us the scene of the royal official who comes to Jesus to ask for the cure of his seriously ill son. What is striking about this new miracle is that Jesus acts at a distance, he does not go to Capernaum to cure the sick person directly, but without moving from Cana he makes recovery possible: The official tells him: "Lord, come before my little boy die. "Jesus answered him:" Go away, your son is already healthy. " (John 4, 49-50). The official believed in the word of the Lord and went home. He believed and obeyed; listened to Jesus and put into practice what he said; He overcame his fears and doubts and went down to his house. On this way back home, only the Word of Jesus accompanied him, and this Word also sustained each of his steps back home. And from home the servants meet him with great certainty and with the same words that Jesus had said to him: “your son lives”. The faith that has walked in darkness and uncertainty finds the light and becomes full assent: "And he believed and all his own." Fears and doubts dissipated and the certainties of light shone in his heart and in his own. Once again what the official had heard about Jesus was being done in his son, in him and in his own.
This story - like all those that the Gospels tell us - is also fulfilled today, because the Word of Jesus is alive, effective and eternal. It is a Word that works when there is a deep and sincere faith. In the night of trial and suffering, the Word of Jesus is a lamp for our steps and is a confident prayer that finds its luminous confirmation. When everything goes well it is like the water that fertilizes our heart and makes it bear good and abundant fruit. Repeat today with joy and conviction: “Your Word gives me life, I trust in You, Lord; Your Word is eternal, I will wait for it ”.
In these times of coronavirus, let us walk with the Word of Jesus in our hearts and make ourselves present to our brothers. Let us help those who cannot buy food, let us call our friends and relatives on the phone to see how they are ... today more than ever we are beacons of hope in the dark night of pain from this disease.
"Christ, my Lord and Savior, help me to be generous and also to share the good news of salvation." Amen
