Sere yo Maestro?

Mt 26, 14-25

En aquel tiempo, uno de los Doce, llamado Judas Iscariote, fue a ver a los sumos sacerdotes y les dijo: “¿Cuánto me dan si les entrego a Jesús?” Ellos quedaron en darle treinta monedas de plata. Y desde ese momento andaba buscando una oportunidad para entregárselo.

El primer día de la fiesta de los panes Ázimos, los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús y le preguntaron: “¿Dónde quieres que te preparemos la cena de Pascua?” Él respondió: “Vayan a la ciudad, a casa de fulano y díganle: ‘El Maestro dice: Mi hora está ya cerca. Voy a celebrar la Pascua con mis discípulos en tu casa’ ”. Ellos hicieron lo que Jesús les había ordenado y prepararon la cena de Pascua.

Al atardecer, se sentó a la mesa con los Doce, y mientras cenaban, les dijo: “Yo les aseguro que uno de ustedes va a entregarme”. Ellos se pusieron muy tristes y comenzaron a preguntarle uno por uno: “¿Acaso soy yo, Señor?” Él respondió: “El que moja su pan en el mismo plato que yo, ése va a entregarme. Porque el Hijo del hombre va a morir, como está escrito de él; pero ¡ay de aquel por quien el Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado! Más le valiera a ese hombre no haber nacido”. Entonces preguntó Judas, el que lo iba a entregar: “¿Acaso soy yo, Maestro?” Jesús le respondió: “Tú lo has dicho”.

One of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot,
went to the chief priests and said,
“What are you willing to give me
if I hand him over to you?”
They paid him thirty pieces of silver,
and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over.

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread,
the disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Where do you want us to prepare
for you to eat the Passover?”
He said,
“Go into the city to a certain man and tell him,
‘The teacher says, "My appointed time draws near;
in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.”‘“
The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered,
and prepared the Passover.

When it was evening,
he reclined at table with the Twelve.
And while they were eating, he said,
“Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
Deeply distressed at this,
they began to say to him one after another,
“Surely it is not I, Lord?”
He said in reply,
“He who has dipped his hand into the dish with me
is the one who will betray me.
The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written of him,
but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed.
It would be better for that man if he had never been born.”
Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply,
“Surely it is not I, Rabbi?”
He answered, “You have said so.”

Meditacion:

Cuando Jesús anunció que uno de sus discípulos lo traicionaría, le preguntaron: “Señor, ¿acaso seré yo?” Judas también quiso saber y preguntó: “Maestro, ¿acaso seré yo?” Era obvio que los once habían llegado a la conclusión de que Jesús era mucho más que un rabino o un maestro que presentaba una nueva visión para Israel y tenían la convicción de que Jesús merecía no solamente aceptación, sino obediencia; que era alguien a quien debían llamar “Señor”. Pero Judas, al parecer, no pudo llegar a ese punto.

Hay varias maneras de conocer a Cristo: como maestro excepcional, como profeta y médico notable, como un hombre extraordinariamente santo. También es el Señor, que reina sobre toda la creación con su majestad divina, y que es digno de recibir todo el honor, la gloria y el poder.

Esto lo hemos escuchado muchas veces, pero ¿qué significan estas palabras para nosotros en la vida práctica? ¿Cómo influyen estas verdades en nuestra conducta diaria? Una respuesta es que, si bien hemos de considerar que Jesús es nuestro amigo, también debemos entender que es nuestro Dios y Juez, con una autoridad absoluta. Sus enseñanzas y mandamientos llevan un peso propio que merece completa obediencia; su poder también es absoluto.

Podemos contemplar a Jesús con una fe expectante, sabiendo que él puede hacer milagros, aliviar el sufrimiento y atender incluso a los detalles más triviales de nuestra propia vida y la de nuestros seres queridos.

Pero es importante comprender que la majestad de Jesús no significa que nuestra vida se convierta en una carga opresiva. Todo lo contrario; su gracia nos infunde una libertad y una paz extraordinarias. Nos transforma, y orienta nuestros pasos de una manera mucho más satisfactoria que cualquier plan ideado por nosotros mismos o por los “expertos” de moda. Cristo no es un rey injusto ni indiferente: es el Amor encarnado.

Hoy, sigamos a los discípulos y aceptemos a Jesús como Señor. Si lo hacemos, él hará su presencia y su poder más patentes en nuestra vida; creará en nosotros un corazón nuevo y nos dará una paz superior a todo lo que podamos imaginarnos o comprender.

“Jesús, Señor y Dios mío, ayúdame a caminar siempre hacia ti por la senda que mostraste cuando vivías entre nosotros.” Amen

When Jesus announced that one of his disciples would betray him, they asked him: "Lord, will it be me?" Judas also wanted to know and asked: "Master, will it be me?" It was obvious that the eleven had concluded that Jesus was much more than a rabbi or teacher who presented a new vision for Israel and they were convinced that Jesus deserved not only acceptance, but obedience; that he was someone they should call "Lord". But Judas apparently could not get to that point.

There are several ways to know Christ: as an exceptional teacher, as a notable prophet and physician, as an extraordinarily holy man. He is also the Lord, who reigns over all creation with his divine majesty, and who is worthy to receive all the honor, glory and power.

We have heard this many times, but what do these words mean to us in practical life? How do these truths influence our daily behavior? One answer is that, while we must consider Jesus to be our friend, we must also understand that he is our God and Judge, with absolute authority. His teachings and commandments carry their own weight that deserves complete obedience; its power is also absolute.

We can look to Jesus with expectant faith, knowing that he can work miracles, alleviate suffering, and attend to even the most trivial details of our own lives and that of our loved ones.

But it is important to understand that the majesty of Jesus does not mean that our life becomes an oppressive burden. On the contrary; His grace infuses us with extraordinary freedom and peace. It transforms us, and guides our steps in a much more satisfying way than any plan devised by ourselves or by fashion "experts". Christ is not an unjust or indifferent king: he is love incarnate.

Today, let's follow the disciples and accept Jesus as Lord. If we do, he will make his presence and his power more evident in our life; it will create a new heart in us and give us a peace greater than anything we can imagine or understand.

"Jesus, Lord and my God, help me to always walk towards you on the path you showed when you lived among us." Amen
