Lc 8, 19-21

En aquel tiempo, fueron a ver a Jesús su madre y sus parientes, pero no podían llegar hasta donde él estaba porque había mucha gente. Entonces alguien le fue a decir: “Tu madre y tus hermanos están allá afuera y quieren verte”. Pero él respondió: “Mi madre y mis hermanos son aquellos que escuchan la palabra de Dios y la ponen en práctica”.

The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him
but were unable to join him because of the crowd.
He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside
and they wish to see you.”
He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers 
are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

Meditacion:

Con lo importante que es la sangre. La ley de la sangre nos hace familia, crea vínculos imborrables, es el fundamento último de amor y seguridad, cuando tantas cosas fallan. La sangre nos trae las palabras más bellas y profundas: la madre, el padre, los hermanos. Entonces, ¿por qué Jesús da ese quiebro desde la sangre a la conducta y actitudes? “Mi madre y mis hermanos son los que escuchan la palabra de Dios y la cumplen”, subraya contundentemente. Pero aplicamos la lupa sobre el texto, y comprendemos que lo que reviste formas de algún rechazo posee un sentido de elogio y alabanza: grande es dar la sangre, pero todavía más grande lo es cuando se da desde la fe y la confianza en Dios. Es decir, en la Madre de la sangre, se verifica, de modo inigualable, esa escucha y cumplimiento de la palabra del Señor. Como en el Antiguo Testamento: no eran pueblo de Dios por la raza sino por la elección amorosa y providente de Dios.

Para una mujer judía lo más grande era la maternidad, era el don y oficio primero. Pero el Evangelio, sin contraposición, pone en primer plano la maternidad desde la fe. “Concebir antes en el corazón que en el vientre”, dirá bellamente San Agustín. Y esto se cumplió en la familia de sangre de Jesús. Por eso, no debe sonarnos a desaire el poner las cosas en su sitio: primero, la escucha y las obras; luego, la concepción y el parto. Como que todo comenzó con las palabras reveladoras: “Hágase en mí según tu palabra”. Una fe nada fácil, una fe de la Virgen en la oscuridad, una fe que  iba progresando, al compás de las pruebas y tropiezos. Las palabras del anciano Simeón llenas de negros presagios, el no entender el sentido de “ocuparse en las cosas del Padre”, el desdén de la gente, que tenía a su hijo por loco, el fracaso de la Cruz, todo formaba parte de la espada que le atravesaba el corazón. Si era la Madre del Verbo, de la Palabra, ¿cómo no la iba a escuchar “de todo corazón”? Nosotros, como María,  somos seguidores de Jesús, somos la familia de Jesús, somos el Cuerpo de Cristo. No chocan en nosotros la sangre frente al Reino, que es lo primero. Es que, para nosotros, el Reino no es una moral sino una persona, Cristo, el Señor.

Nunca presumió la Virgen de ser Madre de Dios; más bien, de “sierva del Señor”. Como sierva por la fe, al igual que Jesús, estuvo siempre en las cosas del Padre, haciendo siempre las cosas que a este le agradaban. María no se quedó en la biología, con ser tan interesante, sino que desde su libertad, cooperó de forma ejemplarmente humana, Si para la Virgen ser madre no fue primeramente un título, no busquemos nunca otros títulos mundanos a los que tanto se arregostan algunos hombres de Iglesia. El don de la fe es nuestra única distinción y grandeza, nuestra única fuente de derechos; la fe nos iguala a todos. Nuestras relaciones, en la sociedad y en la Iglesia, no se basan en la sangre, en la economía, en los trabajos sino en la comunión de la misma familia, la familia del Reino. ¡Y pensar que contemplamos, con horror, tantas divisiones y desigualdades fundadas en la sangre o en ambiciones mundanas, en países de larga tradición cristiana!

With how important blood is. The law of blood makes us family, creates indelible links, is the ultimate foundation of love and security, when so many things fail. Blood brings us the most beautiful and profound words: the mother, the father, the brothers. So why does Jesus break from blood to behavior and attitudes? "My mother and my brothers are the ones who listen to the word of God and fulfill it," he emphatically emphasizes. But we apply the magnifying glass to the text, and we understand that what takes the form of some rejection has a sense of praise and praise: it is great to give blood, but it is even greater when it is given from faith and trust in God. That is to say, in the Mother of the blood, that listening and fulfilling the word of the Lord is verified in an unequaled way. As in the Old Testament: they were not God's people by race but by God's loving and provident choice.

For a Jewish woman the greatest thing was motherhood, it was the gift and office first. But the Gospel, without opposition, puts motherhood in the foreground from faith. "Conceive before in the heart than in the womb", Saint Augustine will say beautifully. And this was fulfilled in the blood family of Jesus. For this reason, it should not sound like a snub to put things in their place: first, listening and works; then conception and delivery. As it all started with the revealing words: "Let it be done to me according to your word." Not an easy faith, a faith of the Virgin in the dark, a faith that was progressing, to the beat of trials and setbacks. The words of the old Simeon full of black omens, not understanding the meaning of "taking care of the Father's things", the disdain of the people, who considered his son mad, the failure of the Cross, all were part of the sword that pierced his heart. If she was the Mother of the Word, of the Word, how could she not listen to her “with all her heart”? We, like Mary, are followers of Jesus, we are the family of Jesus, we are the Body of Christ. Blood does not clash in us in front of the Kingdom, which is the first. It is that, for us, the Kingdom is not a moral but a person, Christ, the Lord.

The Virgin never presumed to be the Mother of God; rather, of "servant of the Lord". As a servant by faith, like Jesus, she was always in the things of the Father, always doing the things that pleased him. Mary did not stay in biology, being so interesting, but since her freedom, she cooperated in an exemplary human way.If for the Virgin being a mother was not primarily a title, let us never look for other worldly titles to which some cling so much. men of the Church. The gift of faith is our only distinction and greatness, our only source of rights; faith equals us all. Our relationships, in society and in the Church, are not based on blood, on the economy, on jobs but on the communion of the same family, the family of the Kingdom. And to think that we contemplate, with horror, so many divisions and inequalities based on blood or worldly ambitions, in countries with a long Christian tradition!
