Mc 1, 29-39

En aquel tiempo, al salir Jesús de la sinagoga, fue con Santiago y Juan a casa de Simón y Andrés. La suegra de Simón estaba en cama, con fiebre, y enseguida le avisaron a Jesús. Él se le acercó, y tomándola de la mano, la levantó. En ese momento se le quitó la fiebre y se puso a servirles. 

Al atardecer, cuando el sol se ponía, le llevaron a todos los enfermos y poseídos del demonio, y todo el pueblo se apiñó junto a la puerta. Curó a muchos enfermos de diversos males y expulsó a muchos demonios, pero no dejó que los demonios hablaran, porque sabían quién era él. 

De madrugada, cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, Jesús se levantó, salió y se fue a un lugar solitario, donde se puso a orar. Simón y sus compañeros lo fueron a buscar, y al encontrarlo, le dijeron: “Todos te andan buscando”. Él les dijo: “Vamos a los pueblos cercanos para predicar también allá el Evangelio, pues para eso he venido”. Y recorrió toda Galilea, predicando en las sinagogas y expulsando a los demonios.

Gospel

Mk 1:29-39

On leaving the synagogue
Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.
They immediately told him about her.
He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.
Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset,
they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.
The whole town was gathered at the door.
He cured many who were sick with various diseases,
and he drove out many demons,
not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn, 
he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
Simon and those who were with him pursued him
and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages
that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come.”
So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons 
throughout the whole of Galilee.

Meditacion:

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús hizo de todo: sanó, expulsó demonios, proclamó el Reino y atendió a un enorme grupo de personas que se aglutinó frente a su puerta (Marcos 1, 33). Seguramente, todas esas demandas le fatigaban y sin embargo, “cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, Jesús se levantó” y se fue a un lugar solitario, donde se puso a orar” (1, 35). ¿No se merecía dormir un poco?

Posiblemente a menudo tú te sientas cargado, como le sucedía a Jesús; en este caso, aparta unos minutos y reza. Si estás vulnerable, el diablo intentará sacar provecho de tu debilidad. Puede decirte que está bien ser irritable; solo porque tienes hambre. O que no te preocupes por las palabras que elegiste; cualquier persona que está tan cansada como tú se merece liberar un poco de presión. Esos son solo los primeros pasos hacia la ladera resbaladiza, y entre más pronto te apartes de ese camino, mejor.

Recuerda, Jesús sabe por lo que estás pasando. El Señor decidió hacerse completamente hombre para poder sentir lo que nosotros sentimos, para poder relacionarse con nosotros, ¡y que nosotros pudiéramos relacionarnos con él!

Cada vez que te sientas cansado o tentado, con hambre o herido, recuerda que Jesús sabe lo que estás experimentando. Recuerda cómo él acudía a su Padre en oración antes de que el enemigo tuviera siquiera una oportunidad de aprovecharse. Luego, reza, encuentra un “lugar solitario” y pídele a Jesús su gracia para ver a través de ella. Siempre recuerda que él está a tu lado, listo para ayudarte y animarte. Siempre recuerda que él sabe.

“Te suplico que me ayudes, Señor, a enfrentar las demandas de la vida.”

In today's Gospel, Jesus did everything: he healed, cast out demons, proclaimed the Kingdom, and attended to a huge group of people who gathered in front of his door (Mark 1:33). Surely, all these demands weary him and yet, “while it was still very dark, Jesus got up” and went to a solitary place, where he began to pray ”(1, 35). Didn't he deserve to get some sleep?

Possibly you often feel burdened, as Jesus did; in this case, take a few minutes and pray. If you are vulnerable, the devil will try to take advantage of your weakness. It can tell you that it is okay to be irritable; just because you're hungry. Or don't worry about the words he chose; anyone who is as tired as you deserves to release some pressure. Those are just the first steps down the slippery slope, and the sooner you get off that trail the better.

Remember, Jesus knows what you are going through. The Lord decided to become fully man so that he could feel what we feel, so that he could relate to us, and that we could relate to him!

Every time you feel tired or tempted, hungry or hurt, remember that Jesus knows what you are experiencing. Remember how he would go to his Father in prayer before the enemy even had a chance to take advantage. Then pray, find a "lonely place" and ask Jesus for his grace to see through it. Always remember that he is by your side, ready to help and encourage you. Always remember that he knows.
