Mc 6, 30-34

En aquel tiempo, los apóstoles volvieron a reunirse con Jesús y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado. Entonces él les dijo: “Vengan conmigo a un lugar solitario, para que descansen un poco”. Porque eran tantos los que iban y venían, que no les dejaban tiempo ni para comer.

Jesús y sus apóstoles se dirigieron en una barca hacia un lugar apartado y tranquilo. La gente los vio irse y los reconoció; entonces de todos los poblados fueron corriendo por tierra a aquel sitio y se les adelantaron.

Cuando Jesús desembarcó, vio una numerosa multitud que lo estaba esperando y se compadeció de ellos, porque andaban como ovejas sin pastor, y se puso a enseñarles muchas cosas.

Gospel

Mk 6:30-34

The Apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” 
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.

When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.

Meditacion:

Jesús estaba animado porque los discípulos acababan de regresar de un viaje misionero que había resultado todo un éxito. Habían sanado a algunas personas, a otros los liberaron de demonios y convirtieron a muchos más. Pero al mismo tiempo, Jesús también se sentía desanimado. Acababa de recibir la noticia de que Juan el Bautista, su amigo y primo, había sido decapitado por orden del rey Herodes.

Con estas noticias buenas y malas en su mente, Jesús tomó una decisión práctica e invitó a los apóstoles a apartarse para tomar un tiempo de descanso (Marcos 6, 31). Es muy posible que él también necesitara descansar. Pero una multitud de personas lo siguió, así que el Señor decidió cambiar sus planes. En lugar de descansar y renovar fuerzas, se puso a enseñar a la gente. En cierto sentido, podría decirse que Jesús fue capaz de ver más allá de sus necesidades y las de sus discípulos para ver las necesidades de muchas otras personas; personas que tenían una necesidad mucho más grande que la suya.

No solo los ojos de Jesús se abrieron de esta forma. Los apóstoles también cedieron en sus planes de descansar. Sin embargo, puedes imaginarte lo sorprendidos que deben haber estado cuando, después de lo que pudieron ser horas de enseñanza, él les dijo que dieran algo de comer a la gente. (Marcos 6, 37).

Jesús quiere que seamos prácticos y ordenados; él desea que nos cuidemos y tengamos el descanso que necesitemos. Pero también hay momentos en que quiere que dejemos nuestros planes de lado por un bien mayor.

Puedes aprender a sentir la inspiración de Dios para que lo práctico no eclipse lo compasivo y espontáneo. Puedes sentirte inspirado a acercarte a hablar con alguien después de Misa o en el supermercado. Podrías sentir que Dios solamente desea que abraces a tu esposo o esposa o a tu hijo, o que debes poner de lado lo que estás haciendo y leer la Escritura por unos cuantos minutos. Cuando algo así pasa, procura actuar, porque nunca sabes cuáles serán los resultados.

“Señor Jesús, deseo sentir la inspiración de tu Espíritu para poder escuchar tu voz y seguir tu guía y ser compasivo como lo eres tu mi Dios.”

Jesus was encouraged because the disciples had just returned from a successful mission trip. They had healed some people, freed others from demons, and converted many more. But at the same time, Jesus also felt discouraged. He had just received the news that John the Baptist, his friend and his cousin, had been beheaded by order of King Herod.

With this good and bad news on his mind, Jesus made a practical decision and invited the apostles to step aside for a time of rest (Mark 6:31). It is quite possible that he also needed to rest. But a crowd of people followed him, so the Lord decided to change his plans. Instead of resting and renewing his strength, he began teaching the people. In a sense, it could be said that Jesus was able to see beyond his needs and those of his disciples to see the needs of many other people; people who had a need much greater than hers.

It was not only Jesus' eyes that were opened in this way. The apostles also gave in to their plans to rest. However, you can imagine how surprised they must have been when, after what may have been hours of teaching, he told them to give the people something to eat. (Mark 6:37).

Jesus wants us to be practical and orderly; He wants us to take care of ourselves and have the rest we need. But there are also times when he wants us to put our plans aside for the greater good.

You can learn to feel the inspiration of God so that the practical does not overshadow the compassionate and spontaneous. You may be inspired to reach out to talk to someone after Mass or at the grocery store. You may feel that God only wants you to hug your husband or wife or your child, or that you should put away what you are doing and read Scripture for a few minutes. When something like this happens, try to act, because you never know what the results will be.

"Lord Jesus, I want to feel the inspiration of your Spirit to be able to listen to your voice and follow your guide and be compassionate as you are my God."
