Un dia vanidoso

Mt 23, 1-12

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a las multitudes y a sus discípulos:
"En la cátedra de Moisés se han sentado los escribas y fariseos. Hagan, pues, todo lo que les digan, pero no imiten sus obras, porque dicen una cosa y hacen otra. Hacen fardos muy pesados y difíciles de llevar y los echan sobre las espaldas de los hombres, pero ellos ni con el dedo los quieren mover. Todo lo hacen para que los vea la gente. Ensanchan las filacterias y las franjas del manto; les agrada ocupar los primeros lugares en los banquetes y los asientos de honor en las sinagogas; les gusta que los saluden en las plazas y que la gente los llame 'maestros'.

Ustedes, en cambio, no dejen que los llamen 'maestros', porque no tienen más que un Maestro y todos ustedes son hermanos. A ningún hombre sobre la tierra lo llamen 'padre', porque el Padre de ustedes es sólo el Padre celestial. No se dejen llamar 'guías', porque el guía de ustedes es solamente Cristo. Que el mayor de entre ustedes sea su servidor, porque el que se enaltece será humillado y el que se humilla será enaltecido".

GospelMT 23:1-12

Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying,
"The scribes and the Pharisees
have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.
Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
but do not follow their example.
For they preach but they do not practice.
They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry
and lay them on people's shoulders,
but they will not lift a finger to move them.
All their works are performed to be seen.
They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues,
greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.'
As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.'
You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.
Call no one on earth your father;
you have but one Father in heaven.
Do not be called 'Master';
you have but one master, the Christ.
The greatest among you must be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled;
but whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

Meditacion:

Leyendo este evangelio ayer me preguntaba si hoy en dia existen fariseos y escribas y la verdad que aun existen, cambiaron sus nombres pero siguen andando por alli.

No solo (y lamentablemente) en algun resto de antiguo clericalismo que a veces encontramos enquistado en nuestras Iglesias y que se ve a si mismo como merecedor de todo y dador de nada sino tambien en nuestros representantes, nuestros politicos que han perdido lo mas importante.. la capacidad de servir.

Es basado en esta lectura que yo personalmente jamas llamo "padre" a ningun sacerdote sino que me refiero a toda persona, consagrada o no, como hermano.. hermano en la fe, hermano en diario caminar hacia Cristo, hermano en el servicio.

Y debemos ver a nuestras Iglesias como una comunion de bautizados donde la vanidad de quien ocupa cual lugar no exista.

La naturaleza humana es muy sensible a la vanidad, todos en distinta medida nos encanta ser reconocidos, alabados, y, en lineas generales, ser el centro de atencion.

Como debemos encarar entonces esto de la vanidad y de evitar creernos lo que no somos? el profeta Isaias nos da un buen plan para esto: “Dejad de hacer el mal,  aprended a hacer el bien.   Buscad la justicia, socorred al oprimido,  proteged el derecho del huérfano,  defended a la viuda”

El mejor remedio contra esta vanidad inutil son dos.. oracion y examen de conciencia diario.. hice bien esto? reaccione de la manera adecuada en esto otro? me porte bien con este hermano? busque ayudar o solo mostrarme a mi mismo cuando aporte aquello?

Ahh vanidad de vanidades, todo es vanidad dice el Eclesiastés. Si hacemos esto todos los días, nos sorprenderemos de cuan vanidosos y fatuos somos a veces.. y emprenderemos el camino para salir de ese pecado tan nocivo. Amen

Reading this gospel yesterday I wondered if today there are Pharisees and scribes and the truth that still exists, they changed their names but they are still there.

Not only (and unfortunately) in some remnant of ancient clericalism that we sometimes find entrenched in our churches and that sees itself as deserving of everything and giver of nothing but also in our representatives, our politicians who have lost what is most important. the ability to serve.

It is based on this reading that I personally never call "priest" any priest but I mean every person, consecrated or not, as brother .. brother in the faith, brother in daily walk towards Christ, brother in the service.

And we must see our Churches as a communion of the baptized where the vanity of those who occupy any place does not exist.

Human nature is very sensitive to vanity, all in different ways we love to be recognized, praised, and, in general, to be the center of attention.

How should we then face this of vanity and avoid believing what we are not? the prophet Isaiah gives us a good plan for this: "Stop doing evil, learn to do good. Seek justice, help the oppressed, protect the rights of the orphan, defend the widow "

The best remedy against this useless vanity are two .. prayer and daily examination of conscience .. did I do this well? react in the proper way in this other? I behave well with this brother? seek help or just show myself when I contribute that?

Ahh vanity of vanities, everything is vanity says the Ecclesiastes. If we do this every day, we will be surprised at how vain and fatuous we are sometimes ... and we will undertake the path to get out of that noxious sin. Amen
