Amor en humildad

Jn 13, 1-15

Antes de la fiesta de la Pascua, sabiendo Jesús que había llegado la hora de pasar de este mundo al Padre y habiendo amado a los suyos, que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el extremo.

En el transcurso de la cena, cuando ya el diablo había puesto en el corazón de Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, la idea de entregarlo, Jesús, consciente de que el Padre había puesto en sus manos todas las cosas y sabiendo que había salido de Dios y a Dios volvía, se levantó de la mesa, se quitó el manto y tomando una toalla, se la ciñó; luego echó agua en una jofaina y se puso a lavarles los pies a los discípulos y a secárselos con la toalla que se había ceñido.

Cuando llegó a Simón Pedro, éste le dijo: "Señor, ¿me vas a lavar tú a mí los pies?" Jesús le replicó: "Lo que estoy haciendo tú no lo entiendes ahora, pero lo comprenderás más tarde". Pedro le dijo: "Tú no me lavarás los pies jamás". Jesús le contestó: "Si no te lavo, no tendrás parte conmigo". Entonces le dijo Simón Pedro: "En ese caso, Señor, no sólo los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza". Jesús le dijo: "El que se ha bañado no necesita lavarse más que los pies, porque todo él está limpio. Y ustedes están limpios, aunque no todos". Como sabía quién lo iba a entregar, por eso dijo: 'No todos están limpios'.

Cuando acabó de lavarles los pies, se puso otra vez el manto, volvió a la mesa y les dijo: "¿Comprenden lo que acabo de hacer con ustedes? Ustedes me llaman Maestro y Señor, y dicen bien, porque lo soy. Pues si yo, que soy el Maestro y el Señor, les he lavado los pies, también ustedes deben lavarse los pies los unos a los otros. Les he dado ejemplo, para que lo que yo he hecho con ustedes, también ustedes lo hagan".

Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come
to pass from this world to the Father.
He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end.
The devil had already induced Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot, to hand him over.
So, during supper, 
fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power 
and that he had come from God and was returning to God, 
he rose from supper and took off his outer garments.
He took a towel and tied it around his waist.
Then he poured water into a basin 
and began to wash the disciples' feet 
and dry them with the towel around his waist.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, 
"Master, are you going to wash my feet?"
Jesus answered and said to him,
"What I am doing, you do not understand now,
but you will understand later."
Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet."
Jesus answered him, 
"Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me."
Simon Peter said to him, 
"Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well."
Jesus said to him, 
"Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed,
for he is clean all over; 
so you are clean, but not all."
For he knew who would betray him;
for this reason, he said, "Not all of you are clean."

So when he had washed their feet 
and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, 
he said to them, "Do you realize what I have done for you?
You call me 'teacher' and 'master,' and rightly so, for indeed I am.
If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, 
you ought to wash one another's feet.
I have given you a model to follow, 
so that as I have done for you, you should also do."

Meditacion:

Hoy jueves santo es el comienzo del triduo pascual en el que se conmemora la pasion, muerte y resurreccion de Jesus.

No podemos contemplar la pasion de Cristo quedandonos en su sufrimiento de muerte, la contemplacion debe incluir necesariamente su resurreccion porque de esa manera vemos todo el acto salvifico de Jesus.

Y ese acto esta lleno de amor por nosotros.  Jesus lo hace aun mas patente cuando se sienta a lavar los pies de sus apostoles, demostrando que todos estamos al servicio de los demas.

Al arrodillarse Cristo delante de Pedro, Pedro quedó arrodillado delante de Juan y de Santiago y de Andrés y de Felipe... y hasta del Iscariote. La dádiva de Jesús instauró la fraternidad de sus discípulos. Y lo sigue haciendo cada día en su Iglesia: «Esto es mi cuerpo que se entrega por vosotros. Haced esto en memoria mía».

Ahora bien, la lógica que hay detrás del misterio del amor humano no es la del ejemplo o la imitación. No se trata de intentar parecerse a Cristo en su mucho amor, sino de consentir que Él sitúe nuestros afectos en el plano de su propia entrega. En una palabra: tomar su pan y su cáliz y su toalla ha de transformarnos, de su suerte que en las venas de nuestro amor humano corra la sangre de su amor divino. Esa es la lógica del que ha ofrecido su sangre para que la nuestra vuelva a fluir. Fue la sangre de un cordero lo que salvó a los israelitas, mostrándoles que podían ser un solo rebaño en brazos del Buen Pastor. Ahora es la sangre del Pastor, que se hace cordero, la que nos salva. Ya no hay que temer que alguna oveja se pierda: todas pueden amarse y servirse con la fuerza del Cordero de Dios.

Dejemos hoy que el amor del hombre llegue hasta nosotros en todo su misterio, que Cristo nos diga a cada uno: «Si no te lavo los pies, no tienes nada que ver conmigo».

Today Holy Thursday is the beginning of the paschal triduum in which the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus is commemorated.

We can not contemplate the passion of Christ remaining in his suffering of death, contemplation must necessarily include his resurrection because in that way we see the whole salvific act of Jesus.

And that act is full of love for us. Jesus makes it even more evident when he sits down to wash the feet of his apostles, showing that we are all at the service of others.

When Christ knelt before Peter, Peter was kneeling before John and James and Andrew and Philip ... and even Iscariot. The gift of Jesus established the fraternity of his disciples. And he continues to do so every day in his Church: "This is my body that gives itself for you. Do this in remembrance of me".

Now, the logic behind the mystery of human love is not that of example or imitation. It is not about trying to look like Christ in his much love, but about allowing Him to place our affections on the plane of his own surrender. In a word: to take his bread and his cup and his towel has to transform us, from his fate, that in the veins of our human love the blood of his divine love flows. That is the logic of the one who has offered his blood so that ours will flow again. It was the blood of a lamb that saved the Israelites, showing them that they could be a single flock in the arms of the Good Shepherd. Now it is the blood of the Shepherd, who becomes a lamb, who saves us. There is no need to fear that any sheep will be lost: everyone can love and serve with the strength of the Lamb of God.

Let us leave today that the love of man reaches us in all its mystery, that Christ says to each one: "If I do not wash your feet, you have nothing to do with me."
