Mt 6, 1-6. 16-18
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Tengan cuidado de no practicar sus obras de piedad delante de los hombres para que los vean. De lo contrario, no tendrán recompensa con su Padre celestial.
Por lo tanto, cuando des limosna, no lo anuncies con trompeta, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y por las calles, para que los alaben los hombres. Yo les aseguro que ya recibieron su recompensa. Tú, en cambio, cuando des limosna, que no sepa tu mano izquierda lo que hace la derecha, para que tu limosna quede en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo secreto, te recompensará.
Cuando ustedes hagan oración, no sean como los hipócritas, a quienes les gusta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas, para que los vea la gente. Yo les aseguro que ya recibieron su recompensa. Tú, en cambio, cuando vayas a orar, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora ante tu Padre, que está allí, en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo secreto, te recompensará.
Cuando ustedes ayunen, no pongan cara triste, como esos hipócritas que descuidan la apariencia de su rostro, para que la gente note que están ayunando. Yo les aseguro que ya recibieron su recompensa. Tú, en cambio, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara, para que no sepa la gente que estás ayunando, sino tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo secreto, te recompensará’’.

so that others may see them.

But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.

"When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites.
They neglect their appearance,
so that they may appear to others to be fasting.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to others to be fasting,
except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.

Meditacion:
Meditando este evangelio me doy cuenta que no solo apunta al hecho de no ser tan pegado a las apariencias sino cambiar y vivir una vida sencilla, en la cual los actos naturales que se generen de la fe, la esperanza y la caridad, fluyan naturalmente y sin que sean notados.
Una vez más, Jesús nos hace una llamada al realismo. Nos invita a dejar de lado la imagen, la apariencia, y a centrarnos en la realidad. Lo importante no es que nos vean orando sino que recemos de verdad. Lo importante no es que nos vean ayudando a los pobres, sino que dediquemos parte de nuestro tiempo y recursos a ayudarlos, aunque no nos vea nadie hacerlo. Lo importante no es que nos vean ayunando sino ayunar de verdad de las injusticias y de todas las cosas malas que anidan a veces en nuestro corazón. Dicho en palabras más actuales: lo importante no es salir en la foto sino actuar en la realidad. Ser lo que somos independientemente de que nos vean o no nos vean.
Es cierto que en este mundo a veces parece que sólo existe lo que sale los medios de comunicación, en la prensa, en la televisión. Tenemos que ser capaces de mirar un poco más adentro, un poco más allá, de la fachada. Estoy seguro que nos encontraremos con montones de personas que viven haciendo el bien, entregados al servicio de los más necesitados, sin hacer ruido, sin salir en la prensa, sin salir en la foto. Pero dando el callo. Esos son los que han entendido bien el mensaje de Jesús. ¡Enhorabuena!
En los tiempos de Jesus, hacer el bien y ser justo era lo esencial de la piedad judaica. Muchos pasajes encontramos en el Antiguo Testamento acerca de este tema: “Felices los que practican la justicia y hacen siempre lo que es justo” (Salmo 106(105)), y se esperaba que los buenos judíos realizaran obras de piedad y caridad, como dar limosna y hacer oración y ayuno, y se les animaba a hacerlo.
Pero cuando uno va un paso mas alla y vive el evangelio y la gracia de Dios, la actitud de servicio es natural y entonces las obras que hacemos ya no son voluntarias, sino un movimiento permanente de amor hacia el otro hermano.
Y esa es la idea que debemos rescatar de este evangelio... hacer el bien sin mirar a quien y sin procurar que alguien nos mire. Porque si estamos al servicio de Dios, no hace falta mas reconocimiento que Jesus nos da cada dia, Amen

Meditating on this gospel I realize that it not only points to the fact of not being so attached to appearances but to change and live a simple life, in which the natural acts that are generated of faith, hope and charity, flow naturally and without being noticed.
Once again, Jesus makes a call to realism. It invites us to leave aside the image, the appearance, and to focus on reality. The important thing is not that they see us praying but that we really pray. The important thing is not that they see us helping the poor, but that we dedicate part of our time and resources to help them, even if nobody sees us doing it. The important thing is not that they see us fasting, but actually fasting from the injustices and from all the bad things that sometimes nest in our hearts. Said in more current words: the important thing is not to appear in the photo but to act in reality. Be what we are regardless of whether they see us or do not see us.
It is true that in this world it sometimes seems that there is only what comes out of the media, in the press, on television. We have to be able to look a little further in, a little further on, from the facade. I am sure that we will meet lots of people who live doing good, given to the service of the needy, without making noise, without going out in the press, without going out in the photo. But giving the callus. These are the ones who have understood the message of Jesus well. !! Congratulations!!
In the times of Jesus, doing good and being righteous was the essence of Jewish piety. Many passages are found in the Old Testament on this subject: "Blessed are those who practice righteousness and always do what is just" (Psalm 106 (105)), and good Jews were expected to perform works of piety and charity, such as give alms and do prayer and fasting, and they were encouraged to do so.
But when you go a step further and live the gospel and the grace of God, the attitude of service is natural and then the works we do are no longer voluntary, but a permanent movement of love towards the other brother.
And that is the idea that we must rescue from this gospel ... doing good without looking at who and without looking for someone to look at us. Because if we are at the service of God, we do not need more recognition than Jesus gives us every day, Amen
