Integridad

Mt 5, 33-37

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Han oído ustedes que se dijo a los antiguos: No jurarás en falso y le cumplirás al Señor lo que le hayas prometido con juramento. Pero yo les digo: No juren de ninguna manera, ni por el cielo, que es el trono de Dios; ni por la tierra, porque es donde él pone los pies; ni por Jerusalén, que es la ciudad del gran Rey.

Tampoco jures por tu cabeza, porque no puedes hacer blanco o negro uno solo de tus cabellos. Digan simplemente sí, cuando es sí; y no, cuando es no. Lo que se diga de más, viene del maligno’’.

Jesus said to his disciples:
"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
But I say to you, do not swear at all;
not by heaven, for it is God's throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;
nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'
Anything more is from the Evil One."

Meditacion:

Seguro todos en algun momento de nuestra vida hemos tenido que firmar un contrato de algun tipo.. para rentar un apartamento, para poder tener internet en casa o para abrir una cuenta de banco... y nos hemos quedado sorprendido con las cantidad enorme de paginas, aclaraciones e (incluso a veces) contradicciones que firmamos.

En el tiempo de Jesus la ley del Antiguo Testamento disponía claramente que, si uno hacía una promesa con juramento, tenía la obligación de cumplirla (Números 30, 3-3; Deuteronomio 23, 22-23). Sin embargo, con el tiempo, los escribas y fariseos hicieron sutiles distinciones entre un juramento válido y uno no válido. Por causa de estas distinciones, el hecho de hacer un voto o una promesa podía transformarse en un medio para evitar lo prometido, en lugar de ser la garantía de su cumplimiento. Jesús censuró estos intentos de evadir las exigencias de la ley.

Lo que pretendía la ley era establecer una elevada norma de honestidad para que el pueblo escogido viviera según ella. Los hijos de Dios debían ser santos, apartados del mundo y vivir de un modo digno de su identidad de pueblo de Dios. Jesús vino a cumplir la ley (Mateo 5, 17) y establecer el Reino de Dios en la tierra; por eso hizo hincapié en la importancia suprema de la integridad personal, como lo exigía la propia ley. Debe bastar que una persona diga un simple “sí” o “no”, es decir, que el carácter y la rectitud de la persona debe bastar para garantizar su palabra.

Esto significa que los seguidores de Jesús deben vivir según una alta norma de honestidad. Jesús nos pide que seamos ejemplos ante el mundo, para que Dios sea glorificado (Mateo 5, 13-16) y se reconozca su presencia entre nosotros. Por el contrario, la falta de integridad personal envenena el ambiente político, comercial, social y familiar y es causa de desconfianza y animosidades que socavan el Reino de Dios.

Vivir de una manera integra deberia ser la forma natural de vivir de todos los humanos pero (al igual que cuando leemos o firmamos un contrato), la sospecha de que la otra persona no sea integra nos lleva a asegurarnos por todos lados.

En la primera lectura de hoy vemos como el profeta Elias encuentra a Eliseo y le pide que lo siga; Eliseo ofrece los dos bueyes con que estaba arando en sacrificio, quema sus aperos y lo sigue.. de la misma manera hoy sabado los invito a, sencillamente, abandonar ese hombre viejo que se aferra a contratos interminables y sencillamente comenzar a vivir en la integridad del amor de Dios. Amen

Sure all at some point in our life we ​​had to sign a contract of some kind .. to rent an apartment, to have internet at home or to open a bank account ... and we have been surprised with the huge amount of pages, clarifications and (sometimes even) contradictions that we sign.

In the time of Jesus the Old Testament law clearly stated that if one made a promise with an oath, he had an obligation to fulfill it (Numbers 30, 3-3, Deuteronomy 23, 22-23). However, over time, the scribes and Pharisees made subtle distinctions between a valid oath and an invalid oath. Because of these distinctions, the act of making a vow or a promise could be transformed into a means to avoid what was promised, instead of being the guarantee of its fulfillment. Jesus censured these attempts to evade the demands of the law.

What the law intended was to establish a high standard of honesty for the chosen people to live according to it. The children of God must be saints, separated from the world and live in a way worthy of their identity as God's people. Jesus came to fulfill the law (Matthew 5, 17) and establish the Kingdom of God on earth; That is why he emphasized the supreme importance of personal integrity, as required by the law itself. It should be enough for a person to say a simple "yes" or "no", that is to say, that the character and rectitude of the person should be enough to guarantee their word.

This means that the followers of Jesus must live according to a high standard of honesty. Jesus asks us to be examples before the world, so that God may be glorified (Matthew 5, 13-16) and his presence among us is recognized. On the contrary, the lack of personal integrity poisons the political, commercial, social and family environment and is the cause of distrust and animosities that undermine the Kingdom of God.

Living in an integrated way should be the natural way of life of all humans but (like when we read or sign a contract), the suspicion that the other person is not integrated leads us to make sure everywhere.

In today's first reading we see how the prophet Elijah finds Elisha and asks him to follow him; Elisha offers the two oxen with which he was plowing in sacrifice, he burns his tools and follows him ... in the same way today, Saturday, I invite you to simply abandon that old man who clings to endless contracts and simply start living in integrity of God's love Amen
