OJo por ojo...

Mt 5, 38-42

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Ustedes han oído que se dijo: Ojo por ojo, diente por diente; pero yo les digo que no hagan resistencia al hombre malo. Si alguno te golpea en la mejilla derecha, preséntale también la izquierda; al que te quiera demandar en juicio para quitarte la túnica, cédele también el manto. Si alguno te obliga a caminar mil pasos en su servicio, camina con él dos mil. Al que te pide, dale; y al que quiere que le prestes, no le vuelvas la espalda”.

9An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.)
But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.
When someone strikes you on your right cheek,
turn the other one to him as well.
If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic,
hand him your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile,
go with him for two miles.
Give to the one who asks of you,
and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow."

Meditacion:

A mi me gustaria saber de los que leen este blog cuantos estan dispuestos hoy a cumplir este evangelio.

Dejar de lado el "ojo por ojo y diente por diente" y, sencillamente, perdonar y hacer el bien sin mirar a quien.

Jesus nos propone un camino y actitud diferente frente a los agravios.

Por sus palabras entendemos que es consciente del problema. Sabe, porque vive en este mundo y no en uno imaginario, que hay personas que abusan de los demás, que agravian a los demás, que abofetean, que quieren poner un pleito con el objetivo único de quitarle la túnica al que solo tiene una, que te piden un favor pero que nunca van a ser capaz de hacerte un favor a ti. Todo eso lo sabe Jesús. Son los ejemplos que él mismo pone. Sacados de la vida. 

Pero Jesús da una respuesta diferente. Su “No hay derecho” tiene otras consecuencias sorprendentes. Lo que hay que hacer es ofrecer la otra mejilla, dar la capaz directamente al que nos la quiere quitar, ahorrándole el pleito, hacer el favor al que nos lo pide y hacerlo con exceso: acompañar dos millas al que nos pide que le acompañemos una y dar al que nos pide prestado. 

Vamos a ser sinceros: nos cuesta entender esta posición de Jesús. Nos cuesta más llevarlo a nuestra vida. Lo que nos sale de dentro es defender nuestros derechos y los derechos de los pobres. Y, si es necesario, aplastar al poderoso abusón y abusador. Lo que nos sale de dentro es el “ojo por ojo y diente por diente.” Pero Jesús se mueve en la órbita del Reino. Y eso es otra cosa, otra forma de mirar a la realidad, otra forma de construir la relación entre las personas. 

La verdad es que, bien pensado, llevamos muchos años aplicando el “ojo por ojo y diente por diente” y nos ha ido como nos ha ido. Tenemos una historia plagada de guerras, venganzas sin fin y sangre. Podríamos probar con lo que nos dice Jesús. Igual esta historia comenzaba a ir de otra manera. Más fraterna y más al estilo del Reino del que tanto habló Jesús.Amen

Let's be honest: it's hard for us to understand this position of Jesus. It is more difficult for us to take it into our lives. What comes out of us is to defend our rights and the rights of the poor. And, if necessary, crush the powerful bully and abuser. What comes out of us is "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." But Jesus moves in the orbit of the Kingdom. And that's another thing, another way of looking at reality, another way of building the relationship between people.

The truth is that, well thought, we have been applying the "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" for many years and it has gone as it has gone. We have a history plagued by wars, endless revenge and blood. We could try what Jesus tells us. Maybe this story began to go differently. More fraternal and more in the style of the Kingdom that Jesus talked about so much. Amen
