Ay de ti!

Mt 11, 20-24

En aquel tiempo, Jesús se puso a reprender a las ciudades que habían visto sus numerosos milagros, por no haberse arrepentido. Les decía:

"¡Ay de ti, Corozaín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran realizado los milagros que se han hecho en ustedes, hace tiempo que hubieran hecho penitencia, cubiertas de sayal y de ceniza. Pero yo les aseguro que el día del juicio será menos riguroso para Tiro y Sidón, que para ustedes.

Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿crees que serás encumbrada hasta el cielo? No. Serás precipitada en el abismo, porque si en Sodoma se hubieran realizado los milagros que en ti se han hecho, quizá estaría en pie hasta el día de hoy. Pero yo te digo que será menos riguroso el día del juicio para Sodoma que para ti''.

Jesus began to reproach the towns
where most of his mighty deeds had been done,
since they had not repented.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum:

Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the nether world.

For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom,
it would have remained until this day.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

Meditacion:

Ya con un pie en el avion les dejo la reflexion de hoy, sacada de "La palabra entre nosotros"

Las ciudades de Tiro y Sidón, situadas en la costa oriental del Mar Mediterráneo, en territorio del actual Líbano, fueron ejemplos de ciudades hundidas en el paganismo.

Sodoma era tan perversa que su nombre sigue usándose hoy para describir actos aberrantes y desnaturalizados. Haciendo una comparación entre Corozaín, Betsaida y Cafarnaúm y aquellas malvadas ciudades, Jesús demostraba lo mucho que habían endurecido el corazón los habitantes de dichos lugares. En efecto, a pesar de los milagros que él había realizado allí, la gente no quería cambiar de conducta. Jesús comentó que hasta Sodoma, Tiro y Sidón se habrían arrepentido si hubieran visto los prodigios que él había realizado en los pueblos de Israel.

Examinémonos pues nosotros mismos, no sea que también hayamos endurecido el corazón como los habitantes de aquellas ciudades y estemos resistiendo a Dios, o lo que él quiere hacer en nosotros. Probablemente escuchamos la predicación de la Palabra de Dios y leemos la Biblia, pero ¿nos arrepentimos de verdad de nuestros pecados y le pedimos perdón a Dios, o no le damos importancia a tales faltas?

Quizás haya aspectos en nuestra vida que son insensibles al pecado. Por ejemplo, a menudo oímos de las desventuras de los pobres y los que pasan hambre en tierras lejanas, o incluso en nuestras ciudades. Quizás sintamos lástima, pero pensamos que lo que tenemos no nos alcanza para dar a los necesitados. Sin embargo, muchas veces gastamos en cosas innecesarias y desperdiciamos los alimentos que nos sobran.

En cuanto a las relaciones familiares, ¿acaso no somos reacios a hablar de cosas que hacen peligrar la frágil paz que existe? Muchos padres tienen miedo de enterarse de la verdadera condición de sus hijos porque temen los conflictos que puedan producirse si deciden hacer algo al respecto. El hecho de que sus hijos estén separados de Dios les parece a los padres menos importante que el éxito que aquéllos puedan alcanzar en el mundo.

Hay muchos aspectos de nuestra vida que necesitan curación y Dios nos llama, pero ¿le estamos respondiendo afirmativamente?

“Padre Santo, nos arrodillamos ante ti conscientes de que somos pecadores. Pero también sabemos que tu misericordia es mayor que nuestro pecado. Acepta, Señor, nuestro arrepentimiento y ablanda nuestro corazón para que nos demos cuenta de lo maravillosa que es la salvación que tu Hijo ganó para nosotros.” Amen

The cities of Tire and Sidon, located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in the territory of present-day Lebanon, were examples of cities sunk in paganism.

Sodom was so perverse that his name is still used today to describe aberrant and denaturalized acts. Making a comparison between Corozain, Bethsaida and Capernaum and those wicked cities, Jesus demonstrated how hard the hearts of the inhabitants of those places had hardened. In fact, despite the miracles he had performed there, people did not want to change their behavior. Jesus commented that even Sodom, Tire, and Sidon would have repented if they had seen the miracles he had performed in the towns of Israel.

Let us examine ourselves, lest we have also hardened the heart like the inhabitants of those cities and are resisting God, or what he wants to do in us. We probably hear the preaching of the Word of God and read the Bible, but do we truly repent of our sins and ask God for forgiveness, or do we not give importance to such faults?

There may be aspects in our life that are insensitive to sin. For example, we often hear of the misfortunes of the poor and those who go hungry in distant lands, or even in our cities. Perhaps we feel sorry, but we think that what we have is not enough to give to the needy. However, many times we spend unnecessary things and waste the food that we have left over.

As for family relationships, are we not reluctant to talk about things that endanger the fragile peace that exists? Many parents are afraid to learn the true condition of their children because they fear the conflicts that may arise if they decide to do something about it. The fact that their children are separated from God seems to parents less important than the success they can achieve in the world.

There are many aspects of our life that need healing and God calls us, but are we responding affirmatively?

"Holy Father, we kneel before you aware that we are sinners. But we also know that your mercy is greater than our sin. Accept, O Lord, our repentance and soften our hearts so that we may realize how wonderful the salvation that your Son won for us is. "Amen
