Mt 12, 38-42
En aquel tiempo, le dijeron a Jesús algunos escribas y fariseos: "Maestro, queremos verte hacer una señal prodigiosa". El les respondió: "Esta gente malvada e infiel está reclamando una señal, pero la única señal que se le dará, será la del profeta Jonás. Pues de la misma manera que Jonás estuvo tres días y tres noches en el vientre de la ballena, así también el Hijo del hombre estará tres días y tres noches en el seno de la tierra.
Los habitantes de Nínive se levantarán el día del juicio contra esta gente y la condenarán, porque ellos se convirtieron con la predicación de Jonás, y aquí hay alguien más grande que Jonás.
La reina del sur se levantará el día del juicio contra esta gente y la condenará, porque ella vino de los últimos rincones de la tierra a oír la sabiduría de Salomón, y aquí hay alguien más grande que Salomón''.

“Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”
He said to them in reply,
“An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign,
but no sign will be given it
except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights,
so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth
three days and three nights.
At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah;
and there is something greater than Jonah here.
At the judgment the queen of the south will arise with this generation
and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and there is something greater than Solomon here.”

Meditacion:
El Señor realizó muchas señales para demostrar que él era verdaderamente el Mesías de Dios (Mateo 8, 1 a 9, 38) y esas obras eran señales de su autoridad celestial. ¿Por qué, entonces, se negó a hacer prodigios en esta ocasión?
El Señor siempre trataba de llevar a cuantos pudiera al Reino de su Padre. Conocía el corazón de quienes se le acercaban y, usando su sabiduría divina, les hablaba de una forma capaz de llevar a cualquier persona a creer en el Reino de Dios. Ya fueran sus expresiones severas o amables, su motivación era siempre el amor.
Fue por amor que no accedió a la petición de los escribas y fariseos, sino que puso en evidencia la realidad de que ellos tenían una gran falta de fe, falta que no se debía a que las señales no fueran claras, sino más bien a que tenían duro el corazón y no querían aceptar que Jesús fuera el enviado de Dios. El Señor hacía sus milagros para que la gente elevara la mirada hacia el Dios Todopoderoso, pero los jefes judíos no querían ceder. Por eso, no se les daría más que una señal más: La señal de Jonás.
“Pues de la misma manera que Jonás estuvo tres días y tres noches en el vientre de la ballena, así también el Hijo del hombre estará tres días y tres noches en el seno de la tierra.” Jesús aludía a la pasión, muerte y resurrección que pronto experimentaría. ¡Él mismo sería la señal! Cuando la gente logra ver y entender que “aquí hay alguien más grande que Jonás” (Mateo 12, 41), es decir, el propio Hijo de Dios, aprende a aceptar de corazón a Jesús y a desprenderse de todo lo que le impida acercarse a Dios.
¡Qué júbilo sentimos por todos los que han creído en Jesús y aceptado el Reino de Dios en su corazón! Sin embargo, el Señor nos invita a descubrir la verdad de Jesús de un modo más profundo y personal aún. Cuando uno se da cuenta de que Jesucristo, con obras concretas, demostró ser mucho más que los profetas antiguos y que, tras anunciar su propia muerte y resurrección, las llevó a cabo personal y voluntariamente, no le queda más que reconocer y confesar que Jesucristo es Dios que habita entre nosotros. ¡Qué bendecidos somos!
“Señor, te rogamos que nos concedas la gracia de percibir tu gloria, para que la fe en Cristo sea la base de nuestra vida hoy y todos los días de nuestra vida.” Amen

The Lord performed many signs to show that he was truly God's Messiah (Matthew 8: 1-9, 38) and those works were signs of his heavenly authority. Why, then, did he refuse to do wonders on this occasion?
The Lord always tried to take as many as he could to the Kingdom of his Father. He knew the hearts of those who approached him and, using his divine wisdom, spoke to them in a way that would lead anyone to believe in the Kingdom of God. Whether their expressions were stern or friendly, their motivation was always love.
It was out of love that he did not accede to the request of the scribes and Pharisees, but he put into evidence the reality that they had a great lack of faith, a fault that was not due to the fact that the signs were not clear, but rather that they had a hard heart and did not want to accept that Jesus was the one sent by God. The Lord did his miracles for people to look up to the Almighty God, but the Jewish leaders did not want to give in. Therefore, they would not be given more than one more signal: The sign of Jonah.
"For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the womb of the earth." Jesus alluded to passion, death and resurrection that I would soon experience. He himself would be the signal! When people get to see and understand that "here is someone greater than Jonah" (Matthew 12, 41), that is, the Son of God himself, he learns to accept Jesus from the heart and to let go of everything that prevents him from approaching God.
What joy we feel for all those who have believed in Jesus and accepted the Kingdom of God in their hearts! However, the Lord invites us to discover the truth of Jesus in a deeper and more personal way. When one realizes that Jesus Christ, with concrete works, proved to be much more than the ancient prophets and that, after announcing his own death and resurrection, he carried them out personally and voluntarily, he has only to recognize and confess that Jesus Christ It is God who lives among us. How blessed we are!
"Lord, we ask you to grant us the grace to perceive your glory, so that faith in Christ may be the basis of our life today and all the days of our life." Amen
