Transfiguracion

Mc 9, 2-10

En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó aparte a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, subió con ellos a un monte alto y se transfiguró en su presencia. Sus vestiduras se pusieron esplendorosamente blancas, con una blancura que nadie puede lograr sobre la tierra. Después se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, conversando con Jesús.

Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: "Maestro, ¡qué a gusto estamos aquí! Hagamos tres chozas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías". En realidad no sabía lo que decía, porque estaban asustados.

Se formó entonces una nube, que los cubrió con su sombra, y de esta nube salió una voz que decía: "Éste es mi Hijo amado; escúchenlo".

En ese momento miraron alrededor y no vieron a nadie sino a Jesús, que estaba solo con ellos.

Cuando bajaban de la montaña, Jesús les mandó que no contaran a nadie lo que habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de en¬tre los muertos. Ellos guardaron esto en secreto, pero discutían en¬tre sí qué querría decir eso de "resucitar de entre los muertos".

GospelMK 9:2-10

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John,
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them, 
and his clothes became dazzling white, 
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. 
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, 
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, 
"Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents: 
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them; 
from the cloud came a voice, 
"This is my beloved Son. Listen to him."
Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves, 
questioning what rising from the dead meant.

Meditacion:

Hoy es la fiesta de la transfiguracion de Jesus. Y si leemos el evangelio con atencion encontraremos varias cosas que nos resultaran conocidas.

Primero, que toda la historia transcurre en un monte. En la historia de Israel, muchas cosas pasan en un monte.. Moises recibio las tablas de la ley, Jesus hizo el sermon de la montana y, mas tarde, en un monte sera apresado y crucificado.

O sea que este concepto de ascender hacia alguna parte para que ocurra algo importante esta muy arraigado en el concepto catolico.

Lo segundo es que no lleva Jesus a todos los apostoles, solo a Pedro, posteriormente, el primer Papa de la Iglesia y que sufriria martirio de cruz tambien, a Juan su discipulo mas querido y a Santiago, al cual Jesus habia rebautizado "hijo del trueno", posiblemente por su caracter explosivo. Los tres eran parte del circulo privilegiado de Jesus y no son escogidos al azar.. los tres jugaran un papel fundamental en la fundacion de la Iglesia primitiva.

Después de esta manifestación de la gloria de Jesús, los tres apóstoles se llenaron de un nuevo sentido de propósito y determinación; recibieron fortaleza para continuar con Cristo por el camino de la cruz. Así, habiendo visto la luz de la gloria, ellos podrían seguir al Señor sin importarles el costo.

Esta visión de Cristo tuvo precisamente la finalidad de infundir esperanza y valor a los apóstoles, a fin de que fueran capaces de enfrentar el futuro, que ciertamente les depararía grandes incertidumbres y dificultades. Ellos sufrirían tribulación y persecución; algunos serían encarcelados, flagelados y ejecutados. Semejante fidelidad a Jesús y a su misión sólo es posible para quien haya tenido una apreciación cada vez más profunda de la gloria del Señor.

Jesús reveló su gloria a los tres apóstoles, para que ellos caminaran fielmente hacia la cruz. A los fieles de hoy también nos permite vislumbrar su gloria con el mismo objetivo. Cuando empezamos a comprender la gloria del Señor, adquirimos fortaleza para seguirlo incluso hasta la cruz, donde podemos morir a nuestro antiguo yo y resucitar a la vida nueva, es decir, actualizar en la práctica la gracia del Bautismo.

El Espíritu Santo nos permite ver la gloria de Jesús en nuestro diario caminar a la luz del Evangelio, y lo hacemos cuando experimentamos la plenitud de su amor, su perdón y su abundancia; y participamos en ella cuando dejamos que nuestro ser interior sea transformado por su gracia, la que recibimos en la oración y en el servicio a Dios y al prójimo.

“Señor, Espíritu Santo, nosotros también queremos pasar tiempo en la presencia de Jesús. Te pedimos que nos manifiestes la gloria de Cristo para que, al verla, recibamos fortaleza para caminar con él, abrazar la cruz y recibir la vida nueva que él ganó para nosotros.” Amen

Today is the feast of the transfiguration of Jesus. And if we read the gospel with attention we will find several things that will be known to us.

First, that the whole story takes place on a hill. In the history of Israel, many things happen in a mountain. Moses received the tables of the law, Jesus made the sermon of the mountain and, later, on a mountain he will be captured and crucified.

In other words, this concept of ascending somewhere to make something important happen is deeply rooted in the Catholic concept.

The second thing is that Jesus does not lead to all the apostles, only to Peter, later, the first Pope of the Church and that he would suffer martyrdom also, to John his beloved disciple and to Santiago, whom Jesus had renamed "Son of Thunder" ", possibly due to its explosive character. The three were part of the privileged circle of Jesus and are not chosen at random .. the three will play a fundamental role in the foundation of the primitive Church.

After this manifestation of the glory of Jesus, the three apostles were filled with a new sense of purpose and determination; they received strength to continue with Christ through the way of the cross. Thus, having seen the light of glory, they could follow the Lord without caring about the cost.

This vision of Christ had precisely the purpose of instilling hope and courage to the apostles, so that they would be able to face the future, which would certainly bring great uncertainties and difficulties. They would suffer tribulation and persecution; some would be imprisoned, flogged and executed. Such fidelity to Jesus and his mission is only possible for those who have had an ever deeper appreciation of the glory of the Lord.

Jesus revealed his glory to the three apostles, so that they would walk faithfully toward the cross. To the faithful of today it also allows us to glimpse his glory with the same objective. When we begin to understand the glory of the Lord, we acquire strength to follow it even to the cross, where we can die to our old self and resuscitate to new life, that is, actualize in practice the grace of Baptism.

The Holy Spirit allows us to see the glory of Jesus in our daily walk in the light of the Gospel, and we do it when we experience the fullness of his love, his forgiveness and his abundance; and we participate in it when we allow our inner being to be transformed by his grace, which we receive in prayer and in the service of God and neighbor.

"Lord, Holy Spirit, we also want to spend time in the presence of Jesus. We ask you to manifest to us the glory of Christ so that, when we see it, we will receive strength to walk with him, embrace the cross and receive the new life that he won for us. "Amen
