Ven y veras...

Jn 1, 45-51

En aquel tiempo, Felipe se encontró con Natanael y le dijo: "Hemos encontrado a aquel de quien escribió Moisés en la ley y también los profetas. Es Jesús de Nazaret, el hijo de José". Natanael replicó: "¿Acaso puede salir de Nazaret algo bueno?" Felipe le contestó: "Ven y lo verás".

Cuando Jesús vio que Natanael se acercaba, dijo: "Éste es un verdadero israelita en el que no hay doblez". Natanael le preguntó: "¿De dónde me conoces?" Jesús le respondió: "Antes de que Felipe te llamara, te vi cuando estabas debajo de la higuera". Respondió Natanael: "Maestro, tú eres el Hijo de Dios, tú eres el rey de Israel". Jesús le contestó: "Tú crees, porque te he dicho que te vi debajo de la higuera. Mayores cosas has de ver". Después añadió: "Yo les aseguro que verán el cielo abierto y a los ángeles de Dios subir y bajar sobre el Hijo del hombre".----

Philip found Nathanael and told him,
"We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law,
and also the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth."
But Nathanael said to him,
"Can anything good come from Nazareth?"
Philip said to him, "Come and see."
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
"Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him."
Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" 
Jesus answered and said to him,
"Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree."
Nathanael answered him,
"Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."
Jesus answered and said to him,
"Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this."
And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Meditacion:

Hoy se celebra al apostol Bartolome, quien se piensa era Natanael.

Hay dos partes en esta evangelio que me gustaria destacar porque es algo que hoy, ya podemos hacer.. una. la actitud de Felipe, el "primerear" como pide el Papa, salir y no esperar o discutir sino, simplemente, dar la buena nueva "hemos encontrado al Mesias" y frente a la incredulidad de Natanael solo le dice "ven y veras".. No se pone a discutir la teologia, hace lo que se nos pide... siembra la semilla y deja que el Espiritu de Dios actue.

Lo otro es que estaba bajo la higuera. Esta es una figura que apela mas a los judios que a nosotros.. por nosotros, podria haber estado a la orilla de un arroyo que nos daria lo mismo... pero para los judios, tradicionalmente se iba a leer bajo la higuera para meditar sobre la palabra de Dios. O sea que era un justo o al menos tenia un conocimiento profundo de su palabra.

Felipe ha quedado impactado por la llamada de Jesús y comparte su descubrimiento con Natanael. Este formula una rotunda objeción: ¿pero de Nazaret puede salir algo bueno? (¡Atención! No es la primera vez que esta semana nos encontramos con nuestro empeño en decirle al Señor como tiene que hacer las cosas).

Felipe reacciona rehuyendo la discusión teórica o incluso erudita. No merece la pena cuestionar si Nazaret es mediación aceptable o no de la salvación: “ven y compruébalo” (“ven y lo verás tú mismo”). Su invitación da paso a un bello diálogo entre Jesús y quien va a acabar reconociéndole como Hijo de Dios y Rey de Israel.

En las catequesis que dedicó en 2006 a cada uno de los apóstoles, Benedicto XVI comentó este texto evocando a Bartolomé y subrayó cómo una vez más el Señor se revela precisamente donde no lo esperamos. Nuestras conversaciones siguen llenas de alusiones que a veces rayan el desprecio e incluso la blasfemia: “con la vida que llevan aquellos…”; “…y estos qué se creen”, “habrase visto…”.  Escuchemos al Jesús que siempre se ha adelantado a nosotros. Callemos un poco. Hablamos demasiado. Dejemos que sea Dios quien hable. Y que, como casi siempre, nos sorprenda y desinstale.

“Jesús, Señor mío, purifica mi corazón y concédeme el deseo de buscar tu faz. Ayúdame a dejar de lado las cosas que empañan mi entendimiento para que pueda regocijarme en tu amor.” Amen

Today the apostle Bartolome, who is thought to be Nathanael, is celebrated.

There are two parts to this gospel that I would like to highlight because it is something that we can do today. the attitude of Philip, the "first" as the Pope asks, go out and not wait or discuss but simply give the good news "we have found the Messiah" and in front of the incredulity of Nathanael only says "come and see". He does not discuss theology, he does what is asked of us ... sows the seed and lets the Spirit of God act.

The other thing is that it was under the fig tree. This is a figure that appeals more to the Jews than to us ... for us, it could have been on the edge of a stream that would give us the same ... but for the Jews, it was traditionally read under the fig tree to meditate about the word of God. So he was a righteous man or at least had a deep knowledge of his word.

Felipe has been shocked by the call of Jesus and shares his discovery with Nathanael. This formulates a resounding objection: but can anything good come out of Nazareth? (Attention! It is not the first time this week we find our commitment to tell the Lord how he has to do things).

Felipe reacts by avoiding the theoretical or even scholarly discussion. It is not worth questioning whether Nazareth is an acceptable mediation or not of salvation: "come and check it" ("come and see it yourself"). His invitation gives way to a beautiful dialogue between Jesus and who will end up recognizing him as Son of God and King of Israel.

In the catechesis he dedicated in 2006 to each one of the apostles, Benedict XVI commented on this text evoking Bartolomé and underlined how once again the Lord reveals himself precisely where we do not expect it. Our conversations are still full of allusions that sometimes border on contempt and even blasphemy: "with the life that those ..."; "... and what do they believe", "would have seen ...". Let's listen to the Jesus who has always come before us. We walked a little. We talk too much Let it be God who speaks. And that, as usual, we surprise and uninstall.

"Jesus, my Lord, purify my heart and grant me the desire to seek your face. Help me to put aside the things that tarnish my understanding so that I can rejoice in your love. "Amen
