Lk 4, 31-37

En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a Cafarnaúm, ciudad de Galilea, y los sábados enseñaba a la gente. Todos estaban asombrados de sus enseñanzas, porque hablaba con autoridad.

Había en la sinagoga un hombre que tenía un demonio inmundo y se puso a gritar muy fuerte: "¡Déjanos! ¿Por qué te metes con nosotros, Jesús nazareno? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Sé que tú eres el Santo de Dios".

Pero Jesús le ordenó: "Cállate y sal de ese hombre". Entonces el demonio tiró al hombre por tierra, en medio de la gente, y salió de él sin hacerle daño. Todos se espantaron y se decían unos a otros: "¿Qué tendrá su palabra? Porque da órdenes con autoridad y fuerza a los espíritus inmundos y éstos se salen". Y su fama se extendió por todos los lugares de la región.

Jesus went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee.
He taught them on the sabbath,
and they were astonished at his teaching
because he spoke with authority.
In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, 
and he cried out in a loud voice,
"What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know who you are–the Holy One of God!"
Jesus rebuked him and said, "Be quiet! Come out of him!"
Then the demon threw the man down in front of them
and came out of him without doing him any harm.
They were all amazed and said to one another,
"What is there about his word?
For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits,
and they come out."
And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.

Meditacion:

El Señor se dedicaba a enseñar en la sinagoga, pero lo hacía “con autoridad” porque no se limitaba a repetir las doctrinas tradicionales de los maestros de la ley, ni a refirmar lo ya dicho por otros maestros (según la costumbre rabínica). Lo que hacía era interpretar la Escritura bajo la nueva luz del Espíritu Santo, de manera que abría un nuevo cauce de gracia que penetraba hasta la conciencia de sus oyentes (“Todos estaban asombrados de sus enseñanzas”).

Por el contrario, el maligno procura imponerse por la fuerza y siempre deja a su paso una humanidad cada vez más empobrecida, violenta, encadenada y dividida, pues la suya es una palabra condenatoria, que corroe la conciencia de aquellos cuyo espíritu no ha sido renovado por la gracia. Pero, ante la presencia del mal, la respuesta del Señor es contundente: “¡Cállate y deja a este hombre!” Al mal no se le puede tratar con cautela ni ambigüedad; hay que combatirlo directamente, con la verdad y con humilde firmeza, para que no oprima ni destruya la convivencia social.

La experiencia del endemoniado nos invita a reflexionar sobre el significado vital que él descubrió en su encuentro con Cristo. Con su sola palabra, el Señor expulsa al demonio, lo cual es sin duda un mensaje de confianza para nosotros. Es como si Lucas nos dijera: “Tengan confianza, porque el poder del mal le está sometido a Jesucristo y él puede expulsar al maligno que atormente a cualquier persona.”

Lo que marca la diferencia es la fe en el Mesías de Dios. A cuantos se ocultan en las tinieblas del pecado, el Señor los llama a salir a la luz para que sus malas obras queden expuestas, se arrepientan y se salven; de lo contrario estarán optando por una espantosa eternidad de tormento inacabable. Querido hermano, ¿dónde te encuentras tú? Si no vives plenamente en la luz de Cristo, el Señor quiere sacarte de las penumbras y traerte a su lado.

“Amado Jesús, no permitas, te lo ruego, que el mal me domine a mí ni a ninguno de mis seres queridos.” Amen

The Lord dedicated himself to teaching in the synagogue, but he did it "with authority" because he did not limit himself to repeating the traditional doctrines of the teachers of the law, nor to refirmar what has already been said by other teachers (according to rabbinic custom). What he did was to interpret the Scripture in the new light of the Holy Spirit, so that it opened a new channel of grace that penetrated to the consciousness of his hearers ("Everyone was amazed at his teachings").

On the contrary, the evil one tries to impose himself by force and always leaves in his wake a humanity increasingly impoverished, violent, chained and divided, because his is a condemnatory word, which corrodes the conscience of those whose spirit has not been renewed by grace. But in the presence of evil, the Lord's response is blunt: "Shut up and leave this man!" Evil can not be treated with caution or ambiguity; we must fight it directly, with the truth and with humble firmness, so that it does not oppress or destroy social coexistence.

The experience of the demoniac invites us to reflect on the vital meaning that he discovered in his encounter with Christ. With his single word, the Lord expels the devil, which is undoubtedly a message of confidence for us. It is as if Luke were saying to us: "Have confidence, because the power of evil is subject to Jesus Christ and he can expel the evil one who torments any person."

What makes the difference is faith in God's Messiah. To those who hide in the darkness of sin, the Lord calls them to come to the light so that their evil deeds are exposed, they repent and they are saved; otherwise they will be opting for a frightful eternity of endless torment. Dear brother, where are you? If you do not live fully in the light of Christ, the Lord wants to take you out of the shadows and bring you to his side.

"Beloved Jesus, do not allow, I beg you, evil to dominate me or any of my loved ones." Amen
