San Francisco

Lc 10, 1-12

En aquel tiempo, designó el Señor a otros setenta y dos discípulos y los mandó por delante, de dos en dos, a todos los pueblos y lugares a donde pensaba ir, y les dijo: "La cosecha es mucha y los trabajadores pocos. Rueguen, por lo tanto, al dueño de la mies que envíe trabajadores a sus campos. Pónganse en camino; los envío como corderos en medio de lobos. No lleven ni dinero, ni morral, ni sandalias y no se detengan a saludar a nadie por el camino. Cuando entren en una casa, digan: 'Que la paz reine en esta casa'. Y si allí hay gente amante de la paz, el deseo de paz de ustedes se cumplirá; si no, no se cumplirá. Quédense en esa casa. Coman y beban de lo que tengan, porque el trabajador tiene derecho a su salario. No anden de casa en casa. En cualquier ciudad donde entren y los reciban, coman lo que les den. Curen a los enfermos que haya y díganles: 'Ya se acerca a ustedes el Reino de Dios'.

Pero si entran en una ciudad y no los reciben, salgan por las calles y digan: 'Hasta el polvo de esta ciudad que se nos ha pegado a los pies nos lo sacudimos, en señal de protesta contra ustedes. De todos modos, sepan que el Reino de Dios está cerca'. Yo les digo que en el día del juicio, Sodoma será tratada con menos rigor que esa ciudad"

Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples
whom he sent ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place he intended to visit.
He said to them,
"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.
Go on your way;
behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.
Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals;
and greet no one along the way.
Into whatever house you enter, first say,
'Peace to this household.'
If a peaceful person lives there,
your peace will rest on him;
but if not, it will return to you.
Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you,
for the laborer deserves his payment.
Do not move about from one house to another.
Whatever town you enter and they welcome you,
eat what is set before you,
cure the sick in it and say to them,
'The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.'
Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you,
go out into the streets and say,
'The dust of your town that clings to our feet,
even that we shake off against you.'
Yet know this: the Kingdom of God is at hand.
I tell you, 
it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day 
than for that town."

Meditacion:

Celebramos hoy la memoria de San Francisco de Asis. ¿Quién no ha oido hablar de este santo que ha traspasado las fronteras del tiempo y la cultura, incluso de las religiones? Es seguramente el santo más ecuménico de todos. De él se han dicho tantas cosas que lo mejor es permitir que sea él quien nos hable a través de uno de sus hijos, Eloi Lecrec. Él recrea así la palabra de Francisco en su conocida obra "Sabiduría de un pobre": "Algunos hermanos me piden una regla más precisa, más determinada. Pero yo no puedo decirles otra cosa que lo que les he dicho ya, y que el Señor Papa ha aprobado plenamente: es decir, que la regla y la vida de los Hermanos Menores consiste en observar el Santo Evangelio de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. A eso, aún hoy, no tengo nada que añadir o quitar. Que los hermanos vivan, pues, en la condición humilde y pobre que fue la del Señor. Que anuncien como Él el reino de Dios a toda criatura, y si se les arroja o se les persigue en un lugar, que vayan a otro. Y en todas partes donde sean recibidos, que coman todo lo que les ofrezcan. Los hermanos que vivan así no constituirán, sin duda, una Orden poderosa, sino que formarán en todas partes donde estén, libres comunidades de amigos. Serán verdaderos hijos del Evangelio. Serán hombres libres, porque nada limitará su horizonte. Y el Espíritu del Señor soplará en ellos como quiera".

Estas palabras puestas en boca de San Francisco nacen del puro Evangelio. Hoy la liturgia nos regala este texto de Lucas en el que Jesús habla a sus discípulos de las exigencias de misión: dejarlo todo para seguirle solo a El. Mirar al frente con la confianza puesta sólo en Dios. Asumir la libertad absoluta frente al “tener” para ponerse totalmente al servicio del Reino. Quizá vivimos tan rodeados de medios, de cosas, de necesidades, de comodidades... que dificilmente pasamos de un suspiro cuando escuchamos estas palabras, o cuando vemos el testimonio vivo depersonas que se han tomado en serio estas palabras de Jesús y lo han dejado todo por el Reino. Nos justificamos facilmente creyendo que para nosotros es imposible, y probablemente tengamos razón. Aunque nos olvidamos que para Dios nada hay imposible. Basta con tener fe... en el sentido más literal de la Palabra, fiarnos un poco más de Él para proclamar con San Francisco: “Tú eres amor, caridad; tú eres sabiduría, tú eres humildad, tú eres paciencia, tú eres belleza, tú eres mansedumbre, tú eres seguridad, tú eres quietud, tú eres gozo, tú eres esperanza y alegría, tú eres justicia, tú eres templanza, tu eres toda nuestra riqueza y satisfacción. “Amado Padre celestial, quiero ser un obrero fiel en su cosecha. Estoy a tu disposición para traer gente a tu Reino.” Amen

These words put into the mouth of San Francisco are born of the pure Gospel. Today the liturgy gives us this text of Luke in which Jesus speaks to his disciples of the demands of mission: to leave everything to follow Him alone. To look ahead with the trust placed only in God. To assume absolute freedom in the face of "having" to be totally at the service of the Kingdom. Perhaps we live so surrounded by means, of things, of necessities, of comforts ... that we hardly pass of a sigh when we hear these words, or when we see the living testimony of people who have taken these words of Jesus seriously and have left it all for the Kingdom. We justify ourselves easily believing that it is impossible for us, and we are probably right. Although we forget that nothing is impossible for God. It is enough to have faith ... in the most literal sense of the Word, to rely a little more on Him to proclaim with Saint Francis: "You are love, charity; you are wisdom, you are humility, you are patience, you are beauty, you are meekness, you are security, you are stillness, you are joy, you are hope and joy, you are justice, you are temperance, you are all our wealth and satisfaction.
