Lc 17, 11-19

GospelLK 17:11-19
As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem,
he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.
As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him.
They stood at a distance from him and raised their voice, saying,
"Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!"
And when he saw them, he said,
"Go show yourselves to the priests."
As they were going they were cleansed.
And one of them, realizing he had been healed,
returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;
and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.
He was a Samaritan.
Jesus said in reply,
"Ten were cleansed, were they not?
Where are the other nine?
Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"
Then he said to him, "Stand up and go;
your faith has saved you."

Meditacion:
Amen

Almost falling into Advent today we read this gospel so significant.
The lepers were the ones excluded from their time; his illness not only had no cure, but socially they were not accepted or suffered a double exclusion, that of his illness and that of his society.
Jesus came for them, to save the insurmountable, those that society is responsible for "discarding"
And it is inevitable to think of the other lepers, the invalids, those who live in the streets, those that we ourselves take care of not seeing, of making them, literally, invisible to society.
More than once I have had to talk to people who live on the street and tell me that it is not food or money that they need but to be listened to.
And ourselves? We are not lepers because of sin, because of our own contradictions, because of our decisions, sometimes so poor?
Today is the time to look at ourselves in the inner mirror and recognize ourselves as sinners and lepers. Like the lepers of the gospel, we also stop at a distance from Jesus, also from there we cry out for compassion.
The day we accept all our brothers, without reservations and without making differences, we will have understood the true meaning of Jesus' love for us.
Until, let us not forget to see in the other, the reflection of God and accept it.
"Beloved Jesus, forgive me for seeking fulfillment in earthly things. Come to my heart, Lord, give me a new spirit and teach me to believe in you and my heavenly Father. "Amen
