Amigo del novio

Jn 3, 22-30

En aquel tiempo, fue Jesús con sus discípulos a Judea y permaneció allí con ellos, bautizando. También Juan estaba bautizando en Enón, cerca de Salim, porque ahí había agua abundante. La gente acudía y se bautizaba, pues Juan no había sido encarcelado todavía.

Surgió entonces una disputa entre algunos de los discípulos de Juan y unos judíos, acerca de la purificación. Los discípulos fueron a decirle a Juan: "Mira, maestro, aquel que estaba contigo en la otra orilla del Jordán y del que tú diste testimonio, está ahora bautizando y todos acuden a él".

Contestó Juan: "Nadie puede apropiarse nada, si no le ha sido dado del cielo. Ustedes mismos son testigos de que yo dije: 'Yo no soy el Mesías, sino el que ha sido enviado delante de él'. En una boda, el que tiene a la novia es el novio; en cambio, el amigo del novio, que lo acompaña y lo oye hablar, se alegra mucho de oír su voz. Así también yo me lleno ahora de alegría. Es necesario que él crezca y que yo venga a menos".

Jesus and his disciples went into the region of Judea,
where he spent some time with them baptizing. 
John was also baptizing in Aenon near Salim,
because there was an abundance of water there,
and people came to be baptized,
for John had not yet been imprisoned. 
Now a dispute arose between the disciples of John and a Jew
about ceremonial washings. 
So they came to John and said to him,
"Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan,
to whom you testified,
here he is baptizing and everyone is coming to him."
John answered and said,
"No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven. 
You yourselves can testify that I said that I am not the Christ,
but that I was sent before him. 
The one who has the bride is the bridegroom;
the best man, who stands and listens for him,
rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. 
So this joy of mine has been made complete. 
He must increase; I must decrease."

Meditacion:

Hoy leemos de "Ciudad redonda":

La Liturgia nos ofrece hoy un texto del evangelio muy significativo. Se trata del testimonio del Bautista sobre Jesús. Había discusiones sobre el bautismo (no había todavía manuales de Teología para explicar los Sacramentos) y le hacen saber a su maestro, Juan el Bautista, que Jesús, a quien él ha bautizado, está también bautizando y convocando numerosos discípulos. Y Juan reacciona como Dios manda: no se siente desplazado ni suplantado.

El Bautista ha entendido quién es él, y Quién es Él. Y nos habla de amor. Del amor del esposo que recibe a la novia. El esposo es Jesús. La gente que acude a Él es el nuevo Israel, la amada esposa anunciada por los profetas. Son los tiempos de las bodas del Mesías con su pueblo, y Juan se alegra al escuchar el eco de su voz, como el amigo del novio, que lo acompaña, lo asiste y es testigo de su alianza de amor. Como amigo del esposo se contenta con que el novio ocupe el lugar principal, crezca en respeto y consideración entre los suyos y realice plenamente su misión. El Bautista se echa a un lado, porque sabe cuál es su tarea.

La actitud del Bautista es modelo para nosotros. Como él, debemos hacer que Jesús sea recibido por todos, que crezca en el amor y en la fe que le deben los suyos, que ocupe el primer lugar en las vidas de todos aquellos a quienes se proclame el evangelio, de quienes conformen las comunidades cristianas. Es una lección de humildad ante el Señor Jesús a quien no podemos suplantar con nuestros intereses personales de poder o de honor.

“Rey y Señor mío, enséñame a disminuir para que tú crezcas en mí y seas dueño de mi vida. Yo me contento con ser ‘amigo del Novio’.” Amen

Today we read of "Round City":

The Liturgy offers us today a very significant gospel text. It is the Baptist's testimony about Jesus. There were discussions about baptism (there were still no Theology manuals to explain the Sacraments) and they let their teacher, John the Baptist, know that Jesus, whom he has baptized, is also baptizing and summoning many disciples. And Juan reacts as God intended: he does not feel displaced or supplanted.

The Baptist has understood who He is, and Who He is. And He speaks to us of love. Of the love of the husband who receives the bride. The husband is Jesus. The people who come to Him are the new Israel, the beloved wife announced by the prophets. They are the times of the wedding of the Messiah with his people, and John is happy to hear the echo of his voice, like the friend of the groom, who accompanies him, assists him and is a witness of his alliance of love. As a friend of the husband, he is happy that the boyfriend occupies the main place, grows in respect and consideration among his family and fully fulfills his mission. The Baptist steps aside, because he knows what his task is.

The attitude of the Baptist is a model for us. Like him, we must make Jesus be received by all, that grows in the love and faith that his people owe him, that occupies the first place in the lives of all those to whom the gospel is proclaimed, of those who conform the communities Christians It is a lesson of humility before the Lord Jesus whom we can not supplant with our personal interests of power or honor.
