En aquel tiempo, al salir Jesús de la sinagoga, fue con Santiago y Juan a casa de Simón y Andrés. La suegra de Simón estaba en cama, con fiebre, y enseguida le avisaron a Jesús. Él se le acercó, y tomándola de la mano, la levantó. En ese momento se le quitó la fiebre y se puso a servirles.
Al atardecer, cuando el sol se ponía, le llevaron a todos los enfermos y poseídos del demonio, y todo el pueblo se apiñó junto a la puerta. Curó a muchos enfermos de diversos males y expulsó a muchos demonios, pero no dejó que los demonios hablaran, porque sabían quién era él.
De madrugada, cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, Jesús se levantó, salió y se fue a un lugar solitario, donde se puso a orar. Simón y sus compañeros lo fueron a buscar, y al encontrarlo, le dijeron: “Todos te andan buscando”. Él les dijo: “Vamos a los pueblos cercanos para predicar también allá el Evangelio, pues para eso he venido”. Y recorrió toda Galilea, predicando en las sinagogas y expulsando a los demonios.

Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.
They immediately told him about her.
He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.
Then the fever left her and she waited on them.
When it was evening, after sunset,
they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.
The whole town was gathered at the door.
He cured many who were sick with various diseases,
and he drove out many demons,
not permitting them to speak because they knew him.
Rising very early before dawn,
he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
Simon and those who were with him pursued him
and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you."
He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages
that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come."
So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons
throughout the whole of Galilee.

Meditacion:
Hoy contemplamos la perfecta obra de un misionero: predicar, curar y proteger, muy al estilo esenio.
Jesus lo dice claramente “Vamos a los pueblos cercanos para predicar también allá el Evangelio, pues para eso he venido” Y alla va, predicando y curando enfermos.
Los evangelistas se mueven en un cierto dilema. Por un lado se les impone el dato histórico de un Jesús que rehúye cualquier glorificación popular, pues no busca su gloria, sino la del Padre (Jn 8,50), y el bien del hombre: “se marchó a un lugar solitario”. Por otro, quieren mostrar ya en la vida de Jesús una especie de pre-iglesia, una multitud reunida en torno a él (“la población entera se agolpaba a la puerta”), que lo espera todo de él (“todo el mundo te busca”), que de él recibe salud (“curó a muchos enfermos de diversos males”). La suegra de Pedro es para la Iglesia el ejemplo de la persona agraciada por Jesús: se pone al servicio de la comunidad.
De nuevo el ilustrado autor de la carta a los Hebreos nos ayuda a contemplar en profundidad la acción de Jesús. Es el encarnado (¡acabamos de celebrar la Navidad!), en todo semejante a nosotros, incluso en haber pasado por la prueba de la tentación y del dolor; nos toca en suerte el privilegio de ser sus hermanos. Como hermano nuestro, “nos tiende una mano”.
Siendo hermanos suyos, nos toca a nosotros tener también sus comportamientos, como tender la mano a los postrados, retirarnos de vez en cuando a orar en soledad y ser conscientes –sin ansiedad– del ancho mundo, las “otras aldeas”, a que somos enviados.
“Amado Jesucristo, quiero conocerte más profundamente y quiero seguirte todos los días de mi vida.” Amen

Peter's mother-in-law is for the Church the example of the person graced by Jesus: he puts himself at the service of the community.
Again the enlightened author of the letter to the Hebrews helps us to contemplate in depth the action of Jesus. He is the incarnate (we just celebrated Christmas!), In everything similar to us, even in having passed through the test of temptation and pain; We have the privilege of being his brothers. As our brother, "he holds out a hand".
Being his brothers, it is up to us to also have their behaviors, such as reaching out to the prostrate, retiring from time to time to pray in solitude and be aware - without anxiety - of the wide world, the "other villages", to which we are sent.
