Has de ver cosas mayores.»

GospelJN 1:43-51
Jesus decided to go to Galilee, and he found Philip.
And Jesus said to him, "Follow me."
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter.
Philip found Nathanael and told him,
"We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law,
and also the prophets, Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth."
But Nathanael said to him,
"Can anything good come from Nazareth?"
Philip said to him, "Come and see."
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
"Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him."
Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?"
Jesus answered and said to him,
"Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree."
Nathanael answered him,
"Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."
Jesus answered and said to him,
"Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this."
And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see the sky opened and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
And Jesus said to him, "Follow me."

Meditacion:
Amen

Brothers, let us meditate a day before the epiphany of Our Lord on this passage of the Gospel.
I really like the image of Natael under the fig tree.
It was traditional in Israel for the faithful to sit in the shade of a fig tree to pray and meditate on the Word of God. In such quiet repose, Nathanael sought God, praying and reading the Scriptures and reflecting on his own life, with open spiritual eyes, and could see that Jesus was the Son of God.
How nice it would be that we all have that space every day to reflect on the word of God; Jesus says of Nathanael "" Here comes a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit. "Nathanael honestly tried to have a good relationship with God and in his search for the truth, he was sincere, without hypocrisy or deceptive attitudes.
And that is why when he sees Jesus, his integrity and search for God makes him recognize him immediately. The soul always recognizes naturally the good, the beautiful, the infinite and the joyful because they are attributes of God.
In the same way, we can also get to know more deeply our Lord and Savior if we raise our minds to heaven and devote our heart to do prayer and study His Word, sincerely seeking to be freed from sin. In this way, the perspective of God is replacing the skepticism proper to the unrenewed human nature. In this way the Lord will be able to act in our conscience and we will come to recognize that, united with Jesus, we are in the presence of God.
"Holy Spirit, Lord, help me to get rid of hypocrisy and falsehood in my life; Create in me a clean spirit, so that I can know you and follow you with my whole being. "Amen
