Lc 9, 22-25

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sufra mucho, que sea rechazado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que sea entregado a la muerte y que resucite al tercer día".

Luego, dirigiéndose a la multitud, les dijo: "Si alguno quiere acompañarme, que no se busque a sí mismo, que tome su cruz de cada día y me siga. 

Pues el que quiera conservar para sí mismo su vida, la perderá; pero el que la pierda por mi causa, ése la encontrará. En efecto, ¿de qué le sirve al hombre ganar todo el mundo, si se pierde a sí mismo o se destruye?''

Gospel, Luke 9:22-25

22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'

23 Then, speaking to all, he said, 'If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me.

24 Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, will save it.

25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?

Meditacion:

Hoy el evangelio nos habla de decisiones. La primera lectura del deuteronomio, Moises les recuerda a los israelitas que tienen una eleccion por hacer: o seguir al Dios creador o a dioses extranjeros. En el evangelio, Jesus les dice que a sus discipulos que seguirlo conllevara para ellos dolor pero al final es el camino correcto.

El mundo en que vivimos raramente ensalzara algo que nos haga sufrir. Como comenta Mariola López Villanueva, rscj, «en ningún libro de autoayuda vamos a encontrar invitaciones a negarnos a nosotros mismos, ni a tener que perder algo, en una cultura que ensalza insistentemente los éxitos personales». Pero la lógica del Evangelio es muy distinta, los criterios de perdidas y ganancias no son como las del mundo en el cual nos movemos.

Al seguir al Señor, al tener una relación con Él nos toca hacer una elección no siempre obvia, nos toca ser capaces de ver al “Invisible” más allá de la apariencia. Descubrir que aún perdiendo nuestra propia vida nos salvamos, porque «lo más valioso lo recibimos cuando lo entregamos todo».

Te invito a que cada día de esta Cuaresma intentes hacer pequeños progresos en tu decisión de seguir a Dios. No te sorprendas si te sientes más cerca del Señor. No te sorprendas si sientes que la vida y el amor de Dios penetran más profundamente en tu corazón.

“Amado Señor, ayúdame a ver cada decisión que tenga que tomar como una oportunidad para honrarte a ti. ¡Ayúdame a optar por la vida!” Amen

Today the gospel speaks to us of decisions. The first reading of Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the Israelites that they have a choice to make: or follow the creator God or foreign gods. In the gospel, Jesus tells them that to his disciples to follow him will entail pain for them but in the end it is the right path.

The world we live in rarely praises something that makes us suffer. As Mariola López Villanueva, rscj, says, "in no self-help book we are going to find invitations to deny ourselves, or to have to lose something, in a culture that insistently extols personal successes." But the logic of the Gospel is very different, the criteria of losses and gains are not like those of the world in which we move.

As we follow the Lord, when we have a relationship with Him, we have to make a not always obvious choice, we have to be able to see the "Invisible" beyond the appearance. Discovering that even losing our own lives we are saved, because "the most valuable thing we receive when we deliver everything".

I invite you every day of this Lent to try to make small progress in your decision to follow God. Do not be surprised if you feel closer to the Lord. Do not be surprised if you feel that God's life and love penetrate more deeply into your heart.

"Beloved Lord, help me to see every decision I have to make as an opportunity to honor you. Help me to choose life! "Amen
