El joven rico

Mc 10, 17-27

En aquel tiempo, cuando salía Jesús al camino, se le acercó corriendo un hombre, se arrodilló ante él y le preguntó: "Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para alcanzar la vida eterna?" Jesús le contestó: "¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Nadie es bueno sino sólo Dios. Ya sabes los mandamientos: No matarás, no cometerás adulterio, no robarás, no levantarás falso testimonio, no cometerás fraudes, honrarás a tu padre y a tu madre".

Entonces él le contestó: "Maestro, todo eso lo he cumplido desde muy joven''. Jesús lo miró con amor y le dijo: "Sólo una cosa te falta: Ve y vende lo que tienes, da el dinero a los pobres y así tendrás un tesoro en los cielos. Después, ven y sígueme". Pero al oír estas palabras, el hombre se entristeció y se fue apesadumbrado, porque tenía muchos bienes.

Jesús, mirando a su alrededor, dijo entonces a sus discípulos: "¡Qué difícil les va a ser a los ricos entrar en el Reino de Dios!" Los discípulos quedaron sorprendidos ante estas palabras; pero Jesús insistió: "Hijitos, ¡qué difícil es para los que confían en las riquezas, entrar en el Reino de Dios! Más fácil le es a un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja, que a un rico entrar en el Reino de Dios".

Ellos se asombraron todavía más y comentaban entre sí: "Entonces, ¿quién puede salvarse?" Jesús, mirándolos fijamente, les dijo: "Es imposible para los hombres, mas no para Dios. Para Dios todo es posible

As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up,
knelt down before him, and asked him,
"Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone.
You know the commandments: You shall not kill;
you shall not commit adultery;
you shall not steal;
you shall not bear false witness;
you shall not defraud;
honor your father and your mother."
He replied and said to him,
"Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth."
Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him,
"You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
At that statement, his face fell,  
and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,
"How hard it is for those who have wealth
to enter the Kingdom of God!"
The disciples were amazed at his words.
So Jesus again said to them in reply,
"Children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God!
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.
than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.”
They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves,
“Then who can be saved?”
Jesus looked at them and said,
“For men it is impossible, but not for God.
All things are possible for God.”

Meditacion:

La lectura de hoy nos muestra uno de los pocos rechazos que Jesus sufrio, el del joven rico.

Es acaso incompatible el poseer riquezas para llevar una vida espiritual sana? Bueno, todo depende que haces con esas riquezas. Si las usas para el beneficio de tus hermanos, no es malo, si vives una vida de austeridad y oracion no es malo pero Jesus les previene a los apostoles sobre esto: “Es más fácil para un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja, que para un rico entrar en el Reino de Dios” (Marcos 10, 25). Los discípulos se quedaron pasmados. Según el pensamiento judaico, la riqueza era entendida como bendición divina, entonces ¿por qué renunciar a ella? Con razón pensaron que Jesús fue demasiado exigente con el próspero joven que había obedecido los mandamientos con tanto esmero y fidelidad.

El llamamiento de Jesús al discipulado es costoso, porque pide que sus seguidores lo sacrifiquen todo por causa suya; sin embargo, la recompensa es magnífica. Si confiamos en él, el Señor nos dará fuerzas para poner nuestra confianza en el Reino de Dios y obtener así la vida eterna. Tal vez queramos saber cómo es esto posible, a lo que Jesús nos asegura: “Para los hombres, es imposible, pero no para Dios; porque para Dios todas las cosas son posibles” (Marcos 10, 27). Cristo hizo realidad aquello que era imposible para nosotros (salvarnos de la condenación eterna y darnos una vida nueva) dependiendo completamente de la promesa del Padre de que él resucitaría tras dar su vida por nosotros en la cruz.

“Padre celestial, enséñame a confiar en ti como un niño pequeño confía en su padre o su madre, para que un día llegue a compartir la vida eterna contigo.”

Today's reading shows us one of the few rejections that Jesus suffered, that of the rich young man.

Is it incompatible to possess riches to lead a healthy spiritual life? Well, everything depends on what you do with those riches. If you use them for the benefit of your brothers, it is not bad, if you live a life of austerity and prayer it is not bad but Jesus warns the apostles about this: "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, that for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God "(Mark 10, 25). The disciples were stunned. According to Jewish thought, wealth was understood as a divine blessing, so why renounce it? No wonder they thought that Jesus was too demanding with the prosperous young man who had obeyed the commandments with such care and fidelity.

Jesus' call to discipleship is costly, because he asks his followers to sacrifice everything for his sake; however, the reward is magnificent. If we trust in him, the Lord will give us strength to put our trust in the Kingdom of God and thus obtain eternal life. Perhaps we want to know how this is possible, to what Jesus assures us: "For men, it is impossible, but not for God; because for God all things are possible "(Mark 10, 27). Christ made what was impossible for us (save us from eternal damnation and give us a new life) completely dependent on the promise of the Father that he would resurrect after giving his life for us on the cross.

"Heavenly Father, teach me to trust you as a little child trusts his father or mother, so that one day he will come to share eternal life with you."
