Pan de vida para nuestros hermanos

Jn 6, 30-35

En aquel tiempo, la gente le preguntó a Jesús: "¿Qué signo vas a realizar tú, para que lo veamos y podamos creerte? ¿Cuáles son tus obras? Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, como está escrito: Les dio a comer pan del cielo".

Jesús les respondió: "Yo les aseguro: No fue Moisés quien les dio pan del cielo; es mi Padre quien les da el verdadero pan del cielo. Porque el pan de Dios es aquel que baja del cielo y da la vida al mundo".

Entonces le dijeron: "Señor, danos siempre de ese pan". Jesús les contestó: "Yo soy el pan de la vida. El que viene a mí no tendrá hambre, y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed

The crowd said to Jesus:
"What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you?
What can you do?
Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:

He gave them bread from heaven to eat."

So Jesus said to them,
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven;
my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven
and gives life to the world."

So they said to Jesus,
"Sir, give us this bread always." 
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst."

Meditacion:

En el Evangelio continuamos con la lectura del discurso del «Pan de vida» en el capítulo seis de Juan. Jesús se revela como pan de vida, como alimento que sacia nuestra hambre. Su palabra nos dice que el único pan que nos hace vivir es el amor. No es extraño, por ello, que los relatos de resurrección se den siempre entorno al pan, a las comidas, a la mesa compartida. En este gesto-símbolo no solo descubrimos la presencia del Resucitado en medio de la comunidad, es también una invitación a ser pan vivo para saciar el hambre de tantos hermanos nuestros. Hagamos nuestra la petición de los discípulos: «Señor, danos siempre de este pan».

Como tantas veces les digo mis hermanos, hay que convertirse en pan para los otros, en reflejo absoluto del evangelio para nuestros hermanos.

Y hoy en la primera lectura vemos el martirio de San Esteban, primer martir de la Iglesia.

Esteban no dudo, no dio ni un paso al costado para ser Pan de vida para los demas, hasta que esa entrega fue intolerable para los judios.

Esteban que nos demuestran cómo “vivir bien” y también nos enseñan a “morir bien”.

“Amado Jesús, gracias por abrir el cielo para mí todos los días; ayúdame a mantener la mirada fija en ti.” Amen

In the Gospel we continue with the reading of the discourse of the "Bread of life" in the sixth chapter of John. Jesus reveals himself as bread of life, as food that satisfies our hunger. His word tells us that the only bread that makes us live is love. It is not strange, therefore, that the resurrection stories are always given around bread, at meals, at the shared table. In this gesture-symbol we not only discover the presence of the Risen One in the midst of the community, it is also an invitation to be living bread to satisfy the hunger of so many of our brothers and sisters. Let us make our request of the disciples: «Lord, always give us this bread».

As I often tell my brothers, we have to become bread for others, an absolute reflection of the Gospel for our brothers.

And today in the first reading we see the martyrdom of Saint Stephen, the first martyr of the Church.

Esteban did not doubt, he did not step aside to be Bread of life for the others, until that delivery was intolerable for the Jews.

Esteban that show us how to "live well" and also teach us to "die well".

"Beloved Jesus, thank you for opening heaven for me every day; help me to keep my gaze fixed on you. "Amen
