Maria Magdalena

Jn 20, 1-2. 11-18

El primer día después del sábado, estando todavía oscuro, fue María Magdalena al sepulcro y vio removida la piedra que lo cerraba. Echó a correr, llegó a la casa donde estaban Simón Pedro y el otro discípulo, a quien Jesús amaba, y les dijo: “Se han llevado del sepulcro al Señor y no sabemos dónde lo habrán puesto”.

María se había quedado llorando junto al sepulcro de Jesús. Sin dejar de llorar, se asomó al sepulcro y vio dos ángeles vestidos de blanco, sentados en el lugar donde había estado el cuerpo de Jesús, uno en la cabecera y el otro junto a los pies. Los ángeles le preguntaron: “¿Por qué estás llorando, mujer?” Ella les contestó: “Porque se han llevado a mi Señor y no sé dónde lo habrán puesto”.

Dicho esto, miró hacia atrás y vio a Jesús de pie, pero no sabía que era Jesús. Entonces él le dijo: “Mujer, ¿por qué estás llorando? ¿A quién buscas?” Ella, creyendo que era el jardinero, le respondió: “Señor, si tú te lo llevaste, dime dónde lo has puesto”. Jesús le dijo: “¡María!” Ella se volvió y exclamó: “¡Rabbuní!”, que en hebreo significa ‘maestro’. Jesús le dijo: “Déjame ya, porque todavía no he subido al Padre. Ve a decir a mis hermanos: ‘Subo a mi Padre y su Padre, a mi Dios y su Dios’ ”.

María Magdalena se fue a ver a los discípulos para decirles que había visto al Señor y para darles su mensaje.

On the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
"They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don't know where they put him." 

Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
She said to them, "They have taken my Lord,
and I don't know where they laid him."
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there,
but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you looking for?"
She thought it was the gardener and said to him,
"Sir, if you carried him away,
tell me where you laid him,
and I will take him."
Jesus said to her, "Mary!"
She turned and said to him in Hebrew,
"Rabbouni," which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her,
"Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.
But go to my brothers and tell them,
'I am going to my Father and your Father,
to my God and your God.'"
Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
"I have seen the Lord,"
and then reported what he told her.

Meditacion:

Entre ayer y esta semana, diferentes denominaciones catolicas celebran a una santa de lo mas enigmatica: Santa Maria Magdalena.

Dice la tradicion Romana Catolica que Jesus la habia librado de siete demonios y luego se quedo "al servicio" de los apostoles.

Dice la tradicion Ortodoxa Catolica que era una mujer de la casa de David, muy rica y que sostuvo economicamente a Jesus y su obra.

Dice la tradicion esenia que fue la esposa de Jesus.

Muchas tradiciones, mucho enigma en torno a esta Santa que ha sido llamada "apostoles de los apostoles" y que tuvo el honor y el privilegio de ver primero a Jesus despues de su resurrecion; sin duda, era alguien importante si Jesus decidio encontrarse con ella primero.

Sin duda era una mujer decidida, cuando todos los apostoles estaban escondidos en Jerusalen, ella y la Virgen Maria estaba al pie de la cruz; e inmediatamente, al rayar el otro dia, se dirigia a la tumba para cumplir con los ritos de preparar el cuerpo cuando fue sorprendida por Jesus.

Cuando la llamó por su nombre, el Señor liberó nuevamente a María, esta vez del pesar y la pena, y la reanimó con una sola palabra: “María”, a lo que ella respondió también con una sola palabra, “Raboní”, cargada no solo de alivio y alegría, sino también de una promesa de fe inquebrantable.

Jesús siempre nos sorprende, ¿no es así? Primero se apareció, no a los gobernantes de Israel y ni siquiera a los doce apóstoles, sino a una mujer, cuyo pasado había sido problemático. La escogió como primer testigo de la resurrección, la que tendría el honor de ser “apóstol para los apóstoles.” Escogió a una persona inesperada, que muchos habrían ignorado, para que tuviera uno de los mayores honores de la historia.

Cualesquiera que hayan sido las ataduras que María había sufrido, y cualquier pecado que hubiese cometido, nada de eso la descalificó a los ojos del Señor. Tú tampoco estás descalificado, hermano o hermana, ni por tus pecados pasados ni por tus debilidades actuales.

Después de todo, esta es precisamente la razón por la que Jesús vino al mundo: a librarnos de todo lo que nos encadena y llenarnos de alegría. A cada uno nos llama por nuestro nombre, y trata de llenarnos de esperanza, para que nosotros también seamos testigos de su amor.

“Jesús, Señor mío, ¡tú eres mi esperanza! Mi corazón salta de alegría con el sonido de tu voz. Haz de mí un testigo de tu resurrección.”

Between yesterday and this week, different Catholic denominations celebrate a most enigmatic saint: Santa Maria Magdalena.

The Roman Catholic tradition says that Jesus had freed her from seven demons and then stayed "at the service" of the apostles.

The Catholic Orthodox tradition says that she was a woman of the house of David, very rich and who supported Jesus and his work economically.

The Essene tradition says that she was the wife of Jesus.

Many traditions, much enigma around this Saint who has been called "apostles of the apostles" and who had the honor and privilege of seeing Jesus first after his resurrection; no doubt, it was someone important if Jesus decided to meet her first.

No doubt she was a determined woman, when all the apostles were hiding in Jerusalem, she and the Virgin Mary were at the foot of the cross; and immediately, when she scratched the other day, she went to the tomb to fulfill the rites of preparing the body when she was surprised by Jesus.

When he called her by her name, the Lord freed Mary again, this time of grief and sorrow, and revived her with a single word: "Mary", to which she also responded with a single word, "Raboni", charged not only of relief and joy, but also of a promise of unwavering faith.

Jesus always surprises us, does not he? First he appeared, not to the rulers of Israel and not even to the twelve apostles, but to a woman whose past had been problematic. He chose her as the first witness of the resurrection, who would have the honor of being an "apostle to the apostles." He chose an unexpected person, whom many would have ignored, to have one of the greatest honors in history.

Whatever the bonds that Mary had suffered, and whatever sin she had committed, none of that disqualified her in the eyes of the Lord. You are not disqualified either, brother or sister, neither for your past sins nor for your current weaknesses.

After all, this is precisely the reason why Jesus came into the world: to get rid of everything that binds us and fill us with joy. To each one he calls us by our name, and tries to fill us with hope, so that we too can be witnesses of his love.

"Jesus, my Lord, you are my hope! My heart jumps with joy at the sound of your voice. Make me a witness of your resurrection. "
