Santiago, el hijo del trueno

Mt 20, 20-28

En aquel tiempo, se acercó a Jesús la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo, junto con ellos, y se postró para hacerle una petición. Él le preguntó: "¿Qué deseas?" Ella respondió: "Concédeme que estos dos hijos míos se sienten, uno a tu derecha y el otro a tu izquierda, en tu Reino". Pero Jesús replicó: "No saben ustedes lo que piden. ¿Podrán beber el cáliz que yo he de beber?" Ellos contestaron: "Sí podemos". Y él les dijo: "Beberán mi cáliz; pero eso de sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no me toca a mí concederlo; es para quien mi Padre lo tiene reservado".

Al oír aquello, los otros diez discípulos se indignaron contra los dos hermanos. Pero Jesús los llamó y les dijo: "Ya saben que los jefes de los pueblos los tiranizan y que los grandes los oprimen. Que no sea así entre ustedes. El que quiera ser grande entre ustedes, que sea el que los sirva, y el que quiera ser primero, que sea su esclavo; así como el Hijo del hombre no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir y a dar la vida por la redención de todos".

The mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons
and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something.
He said to her,
"What do you wish?"
She answered him,
"Command that these two sons of mine sit,
one at your right and the other at your left, in your Kingdom."
Jesus said in reply,
"You do not know what you are asking.
Can you drink the chalice that I am going to drink?"
They said to him, "We can."
He replied,
"My chalice you will indeed drink,
but to sit at my right and at my left, this is not mine to give
but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father."
When the ten heard this,
they became indignant at the two brothers.
But Jesus summoned them and said,
"You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and the great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you.
Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.
Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served
but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Meditacion:

Hoy celebramos la fiesta del Apostol Santiago, uno de los mas conocido por el famoso "camino de Santiago" en España.

Pero lo no tan conocido es que Santiago no logro en su tiempo una evangelizacion profunda de Peninsula Espanola... algunos seguidores por aca, otros por alla... pero nada significativo. Desanimado, se volvio a ayudar a los otros Apostoles en Jerusalen.

Y sin embargo el Apostol Santiago  (o Jacob o Yago o uno de los diferentes nombres con los que se lo conoce) sigue evangelizando hasta hoy con su "camino...'  Son inumerables las personas que han sido tocadas y convertidas en su espiritualidad al seguir el camino.

Santiago era pescador, como muchos otros; un hombre recio, apasionado y de escasa educación. ¿Cómo podría él cumplir la misión que Jesús le daba? Pero lo hizo. El mismo Santiago temerario, que quiso hacer caer fuego del cielo sobre un grupo de samaritanos, llegó a ser el obispo de la iglesia de Jerusalén. El mismo que se había confabulado con su hermano para conseguir un asiento especial junto al trono de Jesús, se convirtió en el primer apóstol que sufrió el martirio (Hechos 12, 1-2).

A primera vista, probablemente nadie seleccionaría a Santiago para que fuera el responsable de la comunidad cristiana en su ciudad, especialmente cuando la Iglesia estaba comenzando a aceptar a los no judíos. Probablemente no tenía una buena idea de cómo ayudar a los judíos y gentiles creyentes a unirse y formar un solo cuerpo en Cristo, pero se dejó cambiar por Dios. Actuó por fe y le dio al Señor la oportunidad de enseñarle y formar su corazón.

Dios no está limitado por lo que tú piensas que puedes hacer para él, y de hecho tiene sueños que superan con mucho tus expectativas. Sigue haciendo oración cada día y pídele que guíe tus pasos y tus pensamientos. Con el transcurso del tiempo, el camino se abrirá.

Recuerda: Dios siempre empieza a actuar donde se agota la capacidad humana. Si tú crees que el Señor te ha pedido que le hables de la fe a alguien con quien te resulta difícil estar en la misma sala, díselo y él te dará la paciencia que necesitas. Si tú tienes que seguir atendiendo a tu familia cuando ya no das más de cansancio, él puede darte su fortaleza. Incluso si estás tan agobiado que no puedes hacer absolutamente nada, díselo. Él te auxiliará. Da un paso y observa cómo él lo da contigo.

“Señor, estoy dispuesto a caminar contigo hoy y todos los días. Confío en que tú me ayudarás a salir adelante.” Amen

Today we celebrate the feast of the Apostle Santiago, one of the best known for the famous "Camino de Santiago" in Spain.

But what is not so well known is that Santiago did not achieve in his time a deep evangelization of the Spanish Peninsula ... some followers here, others there ... but nothing significant. Discouraged, he turned to help the other Apostles in Jerusalem.

And yet the Apostle James (or Jacob or Yago or one of the different names by which he is known) continues to evangelize until today with his "way ..." There are countless people who have been touched and converted in their spirituality to follow the path.

Santiago was a fisherman, like many others; A strong, passionate and poorly educated man. How could he fulfill the mission Jesus gave him? But he did. Reckless James himself, who wanted to bring fire from heaven on a group of Samaritans, became the bishop of the Jerusalem church. He who had conspired with his brother to get a special seat next to the throne of Jesus became the first apostle who suffered martyrdom (Acts 12, 1-2).

At first glance, no one would probably select Santiago to be responsible for the Christian community in his city, especially when the Church was beginning to accept non-Jews. He probably did not have a good idea of ​​how to help Jewish and Gentile believers to unite and form a single body in Christ, but he let himself be changed by God. He acted by faith and gave the Lord the opportunity to teach and form his heart.

God is not limited by what you think you can do for him, and in fact he has dreams that far exceed your expectations. Keep praying every day and ask him to guide your steps and your thoughts. Over time, the path will open.

Remember: God always begins to act where human capacity is depleted. If you believe that the Lord has asked you to talk about the faith to someone with whom you find it difficult to be in the same room, tell him and he will give you the patience you need. If you have to continue caring for your family when you are no longer tired, he can give you his strength. Even if you are so overwhelmed that you can do absolutely nothing, say so. He will help you. Take a step and see how he takes it with you.
