Mt 14, 1-12

GospelMT 14:1-12
Herod the tetrarch heard of the reputation of Jesus
and said to his servants, “This man is John the Baptist.
He has been raised from the dead;
that is why mighty powers are at work in him.”
Now Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison
on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip,
for John had said to him,
“It is not lawful for you to have her.”
Although he wanted to kill him, he feared the people,
for they regarded him as a prophet.
But at a birthday celebration for Herod,
the daughter of Herodias performed a dance before the guests
and delighted Herod so much
that he swore to give her whatever she might ask for.
Prompted by her mother, she said,
“Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”
The king was distressed,
but because of his oaths and the guests who were present,
he ordered that it be given, and he had John beheaded in the prison.
His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl,
who took it to her mother.
His disciples came and took away the corpse
and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.
and said to his servants, “This man is John the Baptist.

Meditacion:
Amen

King Herod, tetrarch who ruled Judea, boasted of his royal authority in Galilee, but in reality he was weak in character and could not even control his own impulses. His lack of self-control prevented him from governing with righteousness and justice. The authority he had received it from God and could have been an instrument of justice, but when he had to decide the fate of a righteous man, he preferred to keep his appearances and show himself as a firm character, although he knew he was doing the wrong thing: King was saddened, but because of his oath and for not being bad with the guests ”he ordered John the Baptist to be executed in prison.
If Herod had really respected God's commandments, he would not have found himself in such a dilemma. The truth is that, for not exercising or defending justice, his actions had terrible consequences for him and for many others. According to Saint Matthew, Herod and Pilate acted in the same way: None of them prevented an innocent man from dying, because they did not dare to impose justice.
But how do we behave? First of all, we are children of God and if we take seriously the duty to pray, read Scripture and serve in the Body of Christ, we can live as such in fullness. No doubt we also have other duties to fulfill, but the first thing is to put into practice the character that distinguishes the children of God, because this is what conditions our behavior in front of others.
The relationship we have with the Lord will determine the way we treat our family, friends and acquaintances, and will help us define the testimony of Christian life that we take with our own behavior. If we obey God in the inner and personal life, we will receive wisdom and strength to fulfill our obligations and responsibilities of fathers or mothers, teachers, office heads, leaders, employees and members of the Body of Christ.
How much sorrow it must cause the Lord to see that we are chained by sin or by circumstances that deprive us of the joy of the Spirit! But if God is on our side, what reason is there to feel helpless or discouraged?
“Lord, I want to see myself as you see me, as a beloved son; thus, strengthened by that vision, I will be able to exercise rightly the authority that you have conferred on me in this world. ” Amen
