Mt 14, 13-21

GospelMT 14:13-21
When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist,
he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself.
The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns.
When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick.
When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said,
"This is a deserted place and it is already late;
dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages
and buy food for themselves."
He said to them, "There is no need for them to go away;
give them some food yourselves."
But they said to him,
"Five loaves and two fish are all we have here."
Then he said, "Bring them here to me,"
and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass.
Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven,
he said the blessing, broke the loaves,
and gave them to the disciples,
who in turn gave them to the crowds.
They all ate and were satisfied,
and they picked up the fragments left over–
twelve wicker baskets full.
Those who ate were about five thousand men,
not counting women and children.

Meditacion:
Amen

Today is Monday, we start a new week and it is difficult (at least for me) to abstract from the events of this weekend with the two shootings of El Paso and Dayton, where almost 30 people died if we told both facts.
On the one hand, we read this gospel of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes that tells us about the infused generosity of God that does not stop helping us and on the other we have facts of blood where God seems to have been absent.
And without a doubt it was because when the differences between us begin to be more important than the similarities, it is when we abandon the path of God and give way to friction, problems and that grows in us, fueled by fear and I hate to become a powerful force that kills, hates and annihilates mercilessly. God is not there anymore.
Many of us today were lucky enough to open our eyes, we were able to go to our jobs and we don't expect anything bad to happen to us but sometimes God has other plans for us and we may have to appear before Him much sooner than we expect.
That is why we must remember this miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fishes; Jesus had received the news of the death of John the Baptist, but even with his heart hurt by the death of his cousin and predecessor, he feels sorry for the people who followed him, forgets his own pain to get ahead to do good .
Many people do not know that the best way to get out of our own problems is to do good to other people.
Today Monday where we are still horrified by the details of the recent attacks this weekend, let's simply do good because there is already more than enough evil on this planet.
“Eternal Father, grant us that your grace will heal us and mold us as you wish, so that we reflect your love in everything.” Amen
