Ay de ustedes! (3)

Mt 23, 27-32

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los escribas y fariseos: "¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque son semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados, que por fuera parecen hermosos, pero por dentro están llenos de huesos y podredumbre! Así también ustedes: por fuera parecen justos, pero por dentro están llenos de hipocresía y de maldad.

¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque les construyen sepulcros a los profetas y adornan las tumbas de los justos, y dicen: 'Si hubiéramos vivido en tiempo de nuestros padres, nosotros no habríamos sido cómplices de ellos en el asesinato de los profetas'! Con esto ustedes están reconociendo que son hijos de los asesinos de los profetas. ¡Terminen, pues, de hacer lo que sus padres comenzaron!"

Jesus said,
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside,
but inside are full of dead men's bones and every kind of filth.
Even so, on the outside you appear righteous,
but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You build the tombs of the prophets
and adorn the memorials of the righteous, 
and you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our ancestors,
we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets' blood.'
Thus you bear witness against yourselves
that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets;
now fill up what your ancestors measured out!"

Meditacion:

Hoy termina este largo discurso de Jesus sobre los clerigos de su tiempo.

Y lo termina de una manera muy dura y que nos toca a todos.

Nos gusta que los demás tengan una buena imagen de nosotros y piensen que somos gente honrada, personas fiables, profesionales competentes y esmerados, compañía grata. La buena imagen y la buena fama son un bien, aunque no un bien absoluto.

Debemos recordar también a Orígenes, que dice: “Toda santidad fingida yace muerta porque no obra impulsada por Dios”, y conviene siempre regirse por el principio elemental que propone Jesús: “Digan simplemente sí cuando es sí, y no cuando es no” (Mateo 5, 37).

La religión es cuestión del entendimiento y del corazón, tanto en su dimensión vertical, en la relación con Dios, como en la horizontal, en la relación con el prójimo, y de esta forma llega a ser una norma de vida que libera y satisface. Pero de no ser así, se convierte en algo que abruma y esclaviza.

La crítica de Jesús al legalismo no va dirigida contra la Ley, sino contra aquellos que, amparándose en ella, quieren acomodar sus exigencias a su propia conveniencia e imponerla sobre los demás. Lo primero es el corazón; luego vendrá lo exterior.

“Cristo amado, te pido que saques de mí todo vestigio de fariseísmo e hipocresía, para que yo crezca como cristiano auténtico y fiel a tus mandamientos.” Amen

Today ends this long speech of Jesus about the clergy of his time.

We like that others have a good image of us and think that we are honest people, reliable people, competent and careful professionals, pleasant company. The good image and the good reputation are a good, although not an absolute good.

We must also remember Origen, who says: "All feigned holiness lies dead because it does not work driven by God," and it is always appropriate to abide by the elementary principle proposed by Jesus: "Say simply yes when it is yes, and not when it is no" ( Matthew 5, 37).

Religion is a matter of understanding and of the heart, both in its vertical dimension, in the relationship with God, and in the horizontal, in the relationship with others, and in this way it becomes a norm of life that liberates and satisfies. But if not, it becomes something that overwhelms and enslaves.

Jesus' criticism of legalism is not directed against the Law, but against those who, based on it, want to accommodate their demands at their own convenience and impose it on others. The first is the heart; Then the outside will come.

"Beloved Christ, I ask you to take away from me all vestiges of Pharisaism and hypocrisy, so that I may grow as an authentic Christian and faithful to your commandments." Amen
