Lc 8, 19-21

GospelLK 8:19-21
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him
but were unable to join him because of the crowd.
He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside
and they wish to see you."
He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers
are those who hear the word of God and act on it."
but were unable to join him because of the crowd.
He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside
and they wish to see you."
He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers
are those who hear the word of God and act on it."

Meditacion:
Amen

This Gospel of St. Luke may sound strange to us, as separate from all that Jesus has been telling us about charity and understanding.
But Jesus had already prevented us: he who wishes to follow me must leave father and mother, take up his cross and follow me.
Following Jesus is an internal, personal and unique process for each person, we are all at a different time from that relationship, sometimes further away, sometimes closer to the ideal of holiness.
That is why the only lighthouse that guides us must be Jesus, only He embodies the perfection of delivery and service.
"Those who hear the message of God and put it into practice, those are my mother and my brothers." It is possible that this statement of Jesus sounds strange, as if he were belittling the importance of his own family, but Jesus knew he could put to his mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, as the supreme example of who hears and accepts the Word of God.
It can be assumed that Mary used to read the Hebrew Scriptures and meditate on the Word of God; only then could he have learned to treasure the promise of salvation and recognize the voice of God and; precisely because she was used to listening to God, she was able to respond without hesitation to the angel of the Lord: "May God do with me as you have told me" (Luke 1:38). She was certainly someone who heard the Word of God and put it into practice.
By faith, Mary gave herself freely and completely to the will of God. Saint Luke presents it by saying: "My soul praises the greatness of the Lord" (Luke 1:46), a powerful statement that denotes at the same time humility of spirit, because it postpones its own person and exalts God above all else. In this way, the Virgin decided to do God's will before her own.
These qualities of listening and putting into practice the Word of God make Mary the prototype of the true disciple of Christ. Using her as an example, the Lord taught what it means to surrender to the Lord, because she was someone who listened with full attention. Let us ask the Lord to grant us the grace to imitate his most holy mother in his way of hearing the word and keeping it in his heart.
"Beloved Lord Jesus, send your Holy Spirit and help me to live as your true disciple." Amen
