En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús terminó de hablar a la gente, entró en Cafarnaúm. Había allí un oficial romano, que tenía enfermo y a punto de morir a un criado muy querido. Cuando le dijeron que Jesús estaba en la ciudad, le envió a algunos de los ancianos de los judíos para rogarle que viniera a curar a su criado. Ellos, al acercarse a Jesús, le rogaban encarecidamente, diciendo: "Merece que le concedas ese favor, pues quiere a nuestro pueblo y hasta nos ha construido una sinagoga". Jesús se puso en marcha con ellos.
Cuando ya estaba cerca de la casa, el oficial romano envió unos amigos a decirle: "Señor, no te molestes, porque yo no soy digno de que tú entres en mi casa; por eso ni siquiera me atreví a ir personalmente a verte. Basta con que digas una sola palabra y mi criado quedará sano. Porque yo, aunque soy un subalterno, tengo soldados bajo mis órdenes y le digo a uno: '¡Ve!', y va; a otro: '¡Ven!', y viene; y a mi criado: '¡Haz esto!', y lo hace".
Al oír esto, Jesús quedó lleno de admiración, y volviéndose hacia la gente que lo seguía, dijo: "Yo les aseguro que ni en Israel he hallado una fe tan grande". Los enviados regresaron a la casa y encontraron al criado perfectamente sano.
Cuando ya estaba cerca de la casa, el oficial romano envió unos amigos a decirle: "Señor, no te molestes, porque yo no soy digno de que tú entres en mi casa; por eso ni siquiera me atreví a ir personalmente a verte. Basta con que digas una sola palabra y mi criado quedará sano. Porque yo, aunque soy un subalterno, tengo soldados bajo mis órdenes y le digo a uno: '¡Ve!', y va; a otro: '¡Ven!', y viene; y a mi criado: '¡Haz esto!', y lo hace".

When Jesus had finished all his words to the people,
he entered Capernaum.
A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die,
and he was valuable to him.
When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him,
asking him to come and save the life of his slave.
They approached Jesus and strongly urged him to come, saying,
"He deserves to have you do this for him,
for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us."
And Jesus went with them,
but when he was only a short distance from the house,
the centurion sent friends to tell him,
"Lord, do not trouble yourself,
for I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof.
Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you;
but say the word and let my servant be healed.
For I too am a person subject to authority,
with soldiers subject to me.
And I say to one, Go, and he goes;
and to another, Come here, and he comes;
and to my slave, Do this, and he does it."
When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him
and, turning, said to the crowd following him,
"I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith."
When the messengers returned to the house,
they found the slave in good health.

Meditacion:
Yo me pregunto en el dia de hoy si Jesus regresara... le permitiriamos hacer "este tipo de milagros"? Supongamos por un segundo que volviera y que lo reconocieramos.
No tratariamos de ponerlo en alguna cajita que nos resultara comodo para poder seguir viviendo?
Creo que el evangelio de hoy es un evangelio distinto. Fijense que aca Jesus "se salio de lo permitido" y cura a un criado de un oficial romano al que nunca ve, por el cual interceden los ancianos de la sinagoga que no siempre lo veian con buenos ojos y al final, no solo cura a este hombre a la distancia sino que alaba la fe del romano!
Jesus, definitivamente, rompe todas las reglas "de nuevo" en este pasaje del evangelio.
Entoces para nosotros que nos creemos tan conocedores, tan cristianos, tan misericordiosos, Jesus con su simpleza, con su amor sin miramientos sobre a quien amar, nos rompe de nuevo los esquemas.
Y es que hay un solo Jesus, un solo amor eterno por todas las personas, no hay un Jesus diferente para cada uno de nosotros o para cada una de las Iglesias o denominaciones que hay esparcidas por alli.
Si la conducta de Jesús nunca nos sorprendiera, si Jesús no nos escandalizara alguna vez, ¿podríamos tener la certeza de estar ante el Jesús real?
Jesús siempre desconcierta y rompe nuestros esquemas fijos que buscan seguridades incluso en nuestra relación con Dios. La fe del centurión va más allá de los esperado. Jesús no es unicamente un médico extraordinario, Jesus actua con la autoridad de Dios y por ello no necesita tocar para sanar de raíz.
Por eso el centurión del evangelio es modelo de relación con Dios. Sabe ponerse en su lugar de siervo, sabe confiar en el poder infinito de Dios manifestado en Jesús. Cuando nos pasan desgracias en nuestra vida ¿sabemos pedir con humildad? ¿sabemos hacer vida las palabras del centurión y que repetimos cada día en la eucaristía "Señor, no soy digno de que entres en mi casa, pero una palabra tuya bastará para sanarme"? Amen

I wonder today if Jesus came back ... would we allow him to do "such miracles"? Suppose for a second he came back and we recognized him.
We would not try to put it in a little box that we find comfortable to continue living?
I think today's gospel is a different gospel. Notice that here Jesus "went out of the way" and heals a servant of a Roman officer whom he never sees, through which the synagogue elders intercede who did not always see him with good eyes and in the end, not only heals This man from a distance but praises the faith of the Roman!
Jesus definitely breaks all the rules "again" in this passage of the gospel.
So, for us, that we think we are so knowledgeable, so Christian, so merciful, Jesus with his simplicity, with his love without regard to whom to love, breaks us again.
And there is only one Jesus, one eternal love for all people, there is no different Jesus for each one of us or for each one of the Churches or denominations that are scattered there.
If Jesus' behavior never surprised us, if Jesus did not ever shock us, could we be certain of being before the real Jesus?
Jesus always baffles and breaks our fixed schemes that seek assurances even in our relationship with God. Centurion faith goes beyond expectations. Jesus is not only an extraordinary doctor, Jesus acts with the authority of God and therefore does not need to touch to heal at the root.
That is why the centurion of the gospel is a model of relationship with God. He knows how to put himself in his servant's place, he knows how to trust in God's infinite power manifested in Jesus. When misfortunes happen to us in our lives, do we know how to ask humbly? Do we know how to make the centurion's words come alive and what we repeat every day in the Eucharist "Lord, I am not worthy to enter my house, but one word of yours will suffice to heal me"? Amen
