El regreso de los 72

Lc 10, 17-24

En aquel tiempo, los setenta y dos discípulos regresaron llenos de alegría y le dijeron a Jesús: "Señor, hasta los demonios se nos someten en tu nombre".

Él les contestó: "Vi a Satanás caer del cielo como el rayo. A ustedes les he dado poder para aplastar serpientes y escorpiones y para vencer toda la fuerza del enemigo, y nada les podrá hacer daño. Pero no se alegren de que los demonios se les sometan. Alégrense más bien de que sus nombres están escritos en el cielo".

En aquella misma hora, Jesús se llenó de júbilo en el Espíritu Santo y exclamó: "¡Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has escondido estas cosas a los sabios y a los entendidos, y las has revelado a la gente sencilla! ¡Gracias, Padre, porque así te ha parecido bien! Todo me lo ha entregado mi Padre y nadie conoce quién es el Hijo, sino el Padre; ni quién es el Padre, sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar".

Volviéndose a sus discípulos, les dijo aparte: "Dichosos los ojos que ven lo que ustedes ven. Porque yo les digo que muchos profetas y reyes quisieron ver lo que ustedes ven y no lo vieron, y oír lo que ustedes oyen y no lo oyeron".

The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus,
“Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.”
Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.    
Behold, I have given you the power
‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions
and upon the full force of the enemy
and nothing will harm you.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you,
but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

At that very moment he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,
“I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows who the Son is except the Father,
and who the Father is except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

Turning to the disciples in private he said,
“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
For I say to you,
many prophets and kings desired to see what you see,
but did not see it,
and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

Meditacion:

Anteriormente, Jesús había enviado a setenta y dos discípulos, ahora éstos vuelven y cuentan como les fue. Puede constatarse que el éxito de la misión se debe a la experiencia de la superioridad, o mejor, de la supremacía del nombre de Jesús respecto a las potencias del mal. La caída de Satanás coincide con la llegada del Reino: los discípulos lo han visto al realizar la misión. Las fuerzas demoníacas han quedado debilitadas: los demonios se someten al poder del nombre de Jesús. Pero este convencimiento no puede ser el fundamento de su alegría y del entusiasmo de su testimonio misionero; la alegría tiene sus raíces profundas en el hecho de ser conocidos y amados por Dios. Esto no quiere decir que la protección de Dios y la relación con él nos sitúen siempre en ventaja ante las fuerzas demoníacas. Aquí se pone la mediación de Jesús entre Dios y nosotros: “Mirad, os he dado el poder” (v.19). El poder de Jesús es un poder que nos hace experimentar el éxito ante el poder diabólico y nos protege. Un poder que sólo puede ser transmitido cuando Satanás es derrotado. Jesús ha asistido a la caída de Satanás, aunque aún no ha sido derrotado definitivamente; los cristianos están llamados a impedir este poder de Satanás sobre la tierra. Ellos están seguros de su victoria, aunque vivan en situación crítica: participan de la victoria en la comunión de amor con Cristo aunque son probados en el sufrimiento y el la muerte. Sin embargo, el motivo de la alegría no está en la seguridad de salir indemnes, sino en el hecho de ser amados por Dios. La expresión de Jesús “vuestros nombres están escritos en el cielo” atestigua que el estar presente en el corazón de Dios (la memoria) garantiza la prolongación de nuestra vida en la dimensión de la eternidad. El éxito de la misión de los discípulos es consecuencia de la caída de Satanás, pero por otra parte muestra la benevolencia del Padre (vv.21-22): el éxito de la Palabra de Gracia en la misión de los setenta y dos, vivida como designio del Padre y en comunión con la resurrección del Hijo, es desde ahora revelación de la bondad del Padre; la misión se convierte en un espacio para revelar la voluntad de Dios en el tiempo humano. Esta experiencia la transmite Lucas en un contexto de oración: Muestra la reacción en el cielo (“te doy gracias”, v.21) y también en la tierra (vv.23-24).

• La oración de júbilo. En la oración que Jesús dirige al Padre guiado por la acción del Espíritu, se especifica que “se llenó de gozo”, expresando la apertura al gozo mesiánico y proclamando la benevolencia del Padre. Se hace evidente en los pequeños, en los pobres y en los que no cuenta para nada, porque ellos han escuchado la palabra anunciada por los enviados y de esta manera acceden a la relación entre las personas divinas de la Trinidad. Sin embargo, los sabios y doctos, en su seguridad, se complacen en su competencia intelectual y teológica. Esta actitud les impide entrar en el dinamismo dado por Jesús a la salvación. La enseñanza que Lucas pretende transmitir a cada creyente, e igualmente a las comunidades eclesiales, se podría sintetizar así: la humildad abre a la fe; la suficiencia de las propias seguridades cierra al perdón, a la luz, a la benevolencia de Dios. La oración de Jesús tiene sus efectos sobre todos los que acogen la benevolencia del Padre y se dejan envolver por ella.

La misión de ser portadores de la vida de Dios a los demás incluye un estilo pobre y humilde. ¿Está tu vida atravesada por la vida de Dios, de la Palabra de gracia que viene de Jesús?

¿Tienes confianza en la llamada de Dios y en su poder, que busca manifestarse a través de la simplicidad, de la pobreza y de la humildad?

Tú, Señor, eres bueno e indulgente,

rico en amor con los que te invocan;

Yahvé, presta oído a mi plegaria,

atiende a la voz de mi súplica. (Sal 86,5-6)

Previously, Jesus had sent seventy-two disciples, now they come back and tell how it went. It can be seen that the success of the mission is due to the experience of superiority, or better, of the supremacy of the name of Jesus over the powers of evil. The fall of Satan coincides with the arrival of the Kingdom: the disciples have seen it in carrying out the mission. The demonic forces have been weakened: the demons submit themselves to the power of the name of Jesus. But this conviction cannot be the foundation of his joy and the enthusiasm of his missionary testimony; Joy has its deep roots in the fact of being known and loved by God. This does not mean that the protection of God and the relationship with him always place us at an advantage before the demonic forces. Here is the mediation of Jesus between God and us: "Look, I have given you the power" (v. 19). The power of Jesus is a power that makes us experience success in the face of evil power and protects us. A power that can only be transmitted when Satan is defeated. Jesus has witnessed the fall of Satan, although he has not yet been defeated definitively; Christians are called to prevent this power of Satan on earth. They are sure of their victory, even if they live in a critical situation: they participate in the victory in the communion of love with Christ even though they are tested in suffering and death. However, the reason for joy is not in the security of going unscathed, but in the fact of being loved by God. The expression of Jesus "your names are written in heaven" attests that being present in the heart of God (memory) guarantees the prolongation of our life in the dimension of eternity. The success of the mission of the disciples is a consequence of the fall of Satan, but on the other hand it shows the benevolence of the Father (vv. 21-22): the success of the Word of Grace in the mission of the seventy-two, lived as the design of the Father and in communion with the resurrection of the Son, it is from now on revelation of the goodness of the Father; the mission becomes a space to reveal the will of God in human time. This experience is transmitted by Luke in a context of prayer: It shows the reaction in heaven ("I thank you", v. 21) and also on earth (vv. 23-24).

• The prayer of jubilation. In the prayer that Jesus directs to the Father guided by the action of the Spirit, it is specified that he “was filled with joy,” expressing openness to messianic joy and proclaiming the benevolence of the Father. It becomes evident in the little ones, in the poor and in those who do not count at all, because they have heard the word announced by the envoys and thus access the relationship between the divine persons of the Trinity. However, the wise and learned, in their safety, indulge in their intellectual and theological competence. This attitude prevents them from entering the dynamism given by Jesus to salvation. The teaching that Luke intends to transmit to each believer, and equally to the ecclesial communities, could be summarized as follows: humility opens faith; the sufficiency of one's assurances closes forgiveness, the light, the benevolence of God. The prayer of Jesus has its effects on all those who accept the benevolence of the Father and allow themselves to be involved.

The mission of being bearers of God's life to others includes a poor and humble style. Is your life crossed by the life of God, of the Word of grace that comes from Jesus?

Do you have confidence in the call of God and his power, which seeks to manifest itself through simplicity, poverty and humility?

You, Lord, are good and forgiving,

rich in love with those who invoke you;

Yahweh, listen to my prayer,

Heed the voice of my plea. (Ps 86.5-6)
