Lc 10, 25-37
En aquel tiempo, se presentó ante Jesús un doctor de la ley para ponerlo a prueba y le preguntó: "Maestro, ¿qué debo hacer para conseguir la vida eterna?" Jesús le dijo: "¿Qué es lo que está escrito en la ley? ¿Qué lees en ella?" El doctor de la ley contestó: "Amarás al Señor tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con todas tus fuerzas y con todo tu ser, y a tu prójimo como a ti mismo". Jesús le dijo: "Has contestado bien; si haces eso, vivirás".
El doctor de la ley, para justificarse, le preguntó a Jesús: "¿Y quién es mi prójimo?" Jesús le dijo: "Un hombre que bajaba por el camino de Jerusalén a Jericó, cayó en manos de unos ladrones, los cuales lo robaron, lo hirieron y lo dejaron medio muerto. Sucedió que por el mismo camino bajaba un sacerdote, el cual lo vio y pasó de largo. De igual modo, un levita que pasó por ahí, lo vio y siguió adelante. Pero un samaritano que iba de viaje, al verlo, se compadeció de él, se le acercó, ungió sus heridas con aceite y vino y se las vendó; luego lo puso sobre su cabalgadura, lo llevó a un mesón y cuidó de él. Al día siguiente sacó dos denarios, se los dio al dueño del mesón y le dijo: 'Cuida de él y lo que gastes de más, te lo pagaré a mi regreso'.
¿Cuál de estos tres te parece que se portó como prójimo del hombre que fue asaltado por los ladrones?'' El doctor de la ley le respondió: "El que tuvo compasión de él". Entonces Jesús le dijo: "Anda y haz tú lo mismo".

"Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law?
How do you read it?"
He said in reply,
"You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your being,
with all your strength,
and with all your mind,
and your neighbor as yourself."
He replied to him, "You have answered correctly;
do this and you will live."
But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus,
"And who is my neighbor?"
Jesus replied,
"A man fell victim to robbers
as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.
They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.
A priest happened to be going down that road,
but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
Likewise a Levite came to the place,
and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him
was moved with compassion at the sight.
He approached the victim,
poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them.
Then he lifted him up on his own animal,
took him to an inn, and cared for him.
The next day he took out two silver coins
and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction,
'Take care of him.
If you spend more than what I have given you,
I shall repay you on my way back.'
Which of these three, in your opinion,
was neighbor to the robbers' victim?"
He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy."
Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

Meditacion:
La parabola del buen samaritano es una de esas donde no hay inocentes. Ni el doctor de la ley que se acerca con malicia a Jesus para ponerlo a prueba, ni nosotros que muy raramente nos preguntaremos que debo hacer para alcanzar la vida eterna?.
Al igual que este judio, sabemos "las generales de la ley" pero a la hora de aplicarla con nuestros semejantes es donde comenzamos a fallar la nota, cuando no desafinar por completo.
Y lo que ocurre es que algunos son mas "semejantes" que otros.
La parábola obligó a los oyentes de Jesús a ponerle cara y corazón a uno de aquellos que tanto despreciaban. Ese es siempre el primer paso para acabar con los prejuicios: Ver a cada persona, no como alguien de una cierta “clase”, sino como lo que es: Una persona digna creada por Dios a su imagen y semejanza. Cuando hacemos esto, a menudo descubrimos que nuestros prejuicios sobre alguien distan mucho de la realidad.
En esta parábola, el samaritano vio que el hombre judío que yacía herido junto al camino no era su enemigo sino su prójimo. Así es como Dios quiere que nosotros consideremos a todos aquellos con quienes nos encontramos. Es una orden que viene de lo alto y nosotros no podemos cumplirla por nuestros propios medios. Necesitamos la gracia del Espíritu Santo para ayudarnos a lidiar con nuestros prejuicios y temores, y abrir los ojos a fin de que veamos a los demás como lo que son: hermanos nuestros, sin importar que sean diferentes.
Jesús finalizó la parábola conminando al escriba con estas palabras: “Anda y haz tú lo mismo.” La respuesta para superar nuestras divisiones no consiste simplemente en ver al otro de manera diferente, sino en tratarlo diferente. ¿Puedes tú, hermano, aceptar este desafío? Piensa en una situación en la que tú puedas “ir y hacer lo mismo” con alguien que sea diferente a ti, involúcralo en una conversación, ofrécele ayuda, hazle ver la importancia de pensar en sus propias esperanzas y sueños. No en tratar de convertirlo a mis propias esperanzas y sueños. Las oportunidades abundan. Todo lo que necesitas es atreverte a dar el primer paso.
“Señor, quiero ser capaz de verte en cada persona con quien me encuentre, aunque sea diferente.” Amen

The parable of the Good Samaritan is one of those where there are no innocents. Neither the doctor of the law who maliciously approaches Jesus to put him to the test, nor do we who very rarely ask ourselves what I must do to reach eternal life?
Like this Jew, we know "the generals of the law" but at the time of applying it with our fellow men, it is where we begin to fail the note, when it does not completely derail.
And what happens is that some are more "like" than others.
The parable forced the listeners of Jesus to put face and heart on one of those who so despised. That is always the first step to end prejudices: See each person, not as someone of a certain "class", but as what he is: A worthy person created by God in his image and likeness. When we do this, we often discover that our prejudices about someone are far from reality.
In this parable, the Samaritan saw that the Jewish man lying wounded by the road was not his enemy but his neighbor. This is how God wants us to consider all those we meet. It is an order that comes from above and we cannot fulfill it by our own means. We need the grace of the Holy Spirit to help us deal with our prejudices and fears, and open our eyes so that we see others as what they are: our brothers, no matter how different they are.
Jesus finished the parable by concluding the scribe with these words: "Go and do the same." The answer to overcome our divisions is not simply to see each other differently, but to treat it differently. Can you, brother, accept this challenge? Think of a situation where you can “go and do the same” with someone who is different from you, involve him in a conversation, offer him help, let him see the importance of thinking about his own hopes and dreams. Not in trying to convert it to my own hopes and dreams. Opportunities abound. All you need is to dare to take the first step.
“Lord, I want to be able to see you in every person I meet, even if it is different.” Amen
