Lc 10, 13-16

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo: "¡Ay de ti, ciudad de Corozaín! ¡Ay de ti, ciudad de Betsaida! Porque si en las ciudades de Tiro y de Sidón se hubieran realizado los prodigios que se han hecho en ustedes, hace mucho tiempo que hubieran hecho penitencia, cubiertas de sayal y de ceniza. Por eso el día del juicio será menos severo para Tiro y Sidón que para ustedes. Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿crees que serás encumbrada hasta el cielo? No. Serás precipitada en el abismo".

Luego, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "El que los escucha a ustedes, a mí me escucha; el que los rechaza a ustedes, a mí me rechaza y el que me rechaza a mí, rechaza al que me ha enviado".

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented,

But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon
at the judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum, 'Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the netherworld.'
Whoever listens to you listens to me.
Whoever rejects you rejects me.

Meditacion:

Hoy recordamos a uno de esos Santos que atraviesan toda la historia de la humanidad. San Francisco de Asis, no solo fundo una orden religiosa sino creo fue con Santa Theresa de Calcuta, un santo que busco vivir en el servicio, la pobreza y el amor a Dios por sobre todas las cosas.

Francisco y sus seguidores recorrieron los campos de Italia predicando la buena nueva sobre Jesús, y siempre lo hacían llevando paz y la reconciliación a lugares en conflicto.

Una historia en particular revela el don de Francisco para hacer la paz. En el último año de su vida, el alcalde de Asís y el obispo de la ciudad se vieron envueltos en una disputa. Para intervenir en busca de una solución, Francisco compuso un nuevo verso para su poema “Cántico al hermano Sol”: “Toda la alabanza sea para ti, mi Señor, a través de aquellos que conceden a sus hermanos el perdón por amor a ti… felices aquellos que hacen perdurar la paz; pues por ti, oh Altísimo, serán coronados.”

Luego, el santo envió a dos frailes a cantar este verso delante del alcalde y el obispo. Conmovido, el alcalde dijo: “Yo perdono al señor obispo, a quien debo reconocer como mi señor.” Y el obispo replicó: “Mi oficio demanda humildad de mi parte, pero por naturaleza soy rápido para enojarme; por favor, ¡perdóneme usted!”

San Francisco entendió que Jesús vino a reconciliarnos no solo con Dios, sino también los unos con los otros. A un nivel personal, la falta de perdón destruye familias y amistades, e incluso puede perjudicar nuestra salud y alterar la paz mental. A un nivel más amplio, puede llevar a la guerra, conflictos, destrucción y muerte. Pero Jesús vino a predicar la paz, puso fin a las enemistades a través de su cruz, y quiere que hagamos lo posible por “mantener la unidad que proviene del Espíritu Santo, por medio de la paz” (Efesios 4, 3).

¿Hay alguien a quien tú debas perdonar? Procura renunciar al resentimiento. Aun si eso significa solamente dar un paso más, sigue adelante y da ese paso. No debe haber sido fácil para el obispo y el alcalde de Asís perdonarse mutuamente, pero encontraron la gracia para hacerlo. Tampoco es fácil para nosotros, pero la misma gracia está disponible también para ti y para mí. Si en este momento se te hace imposible perdonar a alguien, pídele a Dios la gracia para querer perdonar. Aunque te lleve mucho tiempo, él puede darte su paz.

“Señor, ¡hazme un instrumento de tu paz!” Amen

Francisco and his followers toured the fields of Italy preaching the good news about Jesus, and they always did it by bringing peace and reconciliation to places in conflict.

A particular story reveals Francisco's gift to make peace. In the last year of his life, the mayor of Assisi and the bishop of the city were involved in a dispute. To intervene in search of a solution, Francisco composed a new verse for his poem "Canticle to Brother Sun": "All praise be to you, my Lord, through those who grant their brothers forgiveness for love of you ... happy are those who make peace last; for by you, O Most High, they will be crowned. ”

Then, the saint sent two friars to sing this verse in front of the mayor and the bishop. Moved, the mayor said: "I forgive the bishop, whom I must recognize as my lord." And the bishop replied: "My office demands humility from me, but by nature I am quick to get angry; please forgive me! ”

Saint Francis understood that Jesus came to reconcile us not only with God, but also with one another. On a personal level, unforgiveness destroys families and friendships, and can even harm our health and alter mental peace. At a broader level, it can lead to war, conflict, destruction and death. But Jesus came to preach peace, put an end to the feuds through his cross, and wants us to do our best to “maintain the unity that comes from the Holy Spirit, through peace” (Ephesians 4, 3).

Is there anyone you should forgive? Try to give up resentment. Even if that means just one more step, go ahead and take that step. It must not have been easy for the bishop and the mayor of Assisi to forgive each other, but they found the grace to do so. It is not easy for us either, but the same grace is also available to you and me. If at this moment it is impossible for you to forgive someone, ask God for the grace to want to forgive. Even if it takes you a long time, he can give you his peace.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace!" Amen
