Pidan al Espiritu Santo

Lc 11, 5-13

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Supongan que alguno de ustedes tiene un amigo que viene a medianoche a decirle: 'Préstame, por favor, tres panes, pues un amigo mío ha venido de viaje y no tengo nada que ofrecerle'. Pero él le responde desde dentro: 'No me molestes. No puedo levantarme a dártelos, porque la puerta ya está cerrada y mis hijos y yo estamos acostados'. Si el otro sigue tocando, yo les aseguro que, aunque no se levante a dárselos por ser su amigo, sin embargo, por su molesta insistencia, sí se levantará y le dará cuanto necesite.

Así también les digo a ustedes: Pidan y se les dará, busquen y encontrarán, toquen y se les abrirá. Porque quien pide, recibe; quien busca, encuentra y al que toca, se le abre. ¿Habrá entre ustedes algún padre que, cuando su hijo le pida pan, le dé una piedra? ¿O cuando le pida pescado, le dé una víbora? ¿O cuando le pida huevo, le dé un alacrán?

Pues, si ustedes, que son malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, ¿cuánto más el Padre celestial les dará el Espíritu Santo a quienes se lo pidan?''

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Suppose one of you has a friend
to whom he goes at midnight and says,
'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey
and I have nothing to offer him,'
and he says in reply from within,
'Do not bother me; the door has already been locked
and my children and I are already in bed.
I cannot get up to give you anything.'
I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves
because of their friendship,
he will get up to give him whatever he needs
because of his persistence.

"And I tell you, ask and you will receive;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives;
and the one who seeks, finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
What father  among you would hand his son a snake
when he asks for a fish?
Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg?
If you then, who are wicked,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit
to those who ask him?"

Meditacion:

Pues sinceramente, no es lo primero que a uno se le ocurre al dirigirse a Dios: pedirle su Espíritu Santo. Nos salen fácilmente mil otras cosas antes que esta que nos propone Jesús, más de andar por casa, más que nos saquen las castañas del fuego. Es humano que así sea. Pero es importante al acercarnos a Dios para comunicarnos con él, sobre todo para pedir,  que recordemos aquello que nos viene ya de Isaías (55, 8): «Porque mis planes no son vuestros planes, ni vuestros caminos como los míos».

Esto lo tuvo que aprender Pedro (y también nosotros) cuando Jesús advirtió del sufrimiento, el rechazo y la muerte que le esperaban. A él, y a los suyos. La «petición» de Pedro fue: «Dios no lo quiera, eso no te puede ocurrir». Pero Dios sí lo quería, la «voluntad del Padre» era otra. Pedro estaba siendo «tentador» (Satanás). Y Jesús tuvo que reñirle.

Sus seguidores hemos recibido el encargo de sanar y expulsar espíritus. Y vamos a ello con nuestra mejor buena voluntad, pero se repite la experiencia de que «no podemos», no lo conseguimos. «Porque esta clase de demonios no puede ser expulsada sino con la oración» (Mc 9, 14-29). «Todo es posible para el que tiene fe», nos asegura Jesús». Pero nuestra fe es pequeña y tenemos que orar:  «Auméntanos la fe» (Lc 17, 5).

Cuando nos llegan los momentos más difíciles, los momentos del desconcierto, de dudar de todo, cuando aparece el miedo, nuestra tentación es «dormirnos» y abandonar la plegaria insistente que puede darnos luz y fuerzas para seguir hasta el final. "Velad y orad para que no caigáis en tentación" (Mt 26, 41).

En definitiva: nuestra mente y nuestro corazón están bastante lejos de los de Dios y de su Hijo. Y lo que podemos conseguir con nuestras pobres intenciones y fuerzas... no es demasiado. "Sin mí no podéis hacer nada" (Jn 15, 5). 

Jesús es el que ha «buscado» el Reino de Dios y su justicia... y ha recibido con él todo lo demás. Jesús es el que ha «pedido» «que pase de mí este cáliz, pero que se haga tu voluntad». Y ha sido escuchado. Jesús es el que ha «llamado», a gritos, «¿por qué me has abandonado?». Y el Padre le ha respondido. 

En la oscuridad de la medianoche, en las tinieblas del Viernes Santo, se encendió la Luz. La tremenda puerta cerrada del sepulcro quedó abierta, y se levantó (resucitó) para darnos el Pan de Vida. 

Esta es nuestra seguridad y confianza para no cansarnos de orar, y seguir pidiendo: «Padre, haznos como él; derrama sobre nosotros el Espíritu del Señor, el Espíritu de tu Hijo,  para que sepamos orar según tus pensamientos, para que acertemos a tomar tus caminos. Danos, pues, el Espíritu Santo... y no necesitamos pedirte nada más».

“Padre celestial, confío en que, si persisto en la oración y la obediencia, me llenarás del Espíritu Santo para infundir en mí el carácter de tu Hijo Jesús.” Amen

Well, honestly, it is not the first thing that comes to mind when addressing God: asking for his Holy Spirit. A thousand other things come easily to us before Jesus proposes us, more than walking around the house, rather than getting chestnuts out of the fire. It is human that it be so. But it is important to approach God to communicate with him, especially to ask, that we remember what comes to us already from Isaiah (55, 8): "Because my plans are not your plans, nor your paths as mine."

Peter (and so did we) had to learn this when Jesus warned of the suffering, rejection and death that awaited him. To him, and his own. Peter's "request" was: "God forbid, that can't happen to you." But God did, the "will of the Father" was another. Peter was being "tempting" (Satan). And Jesus had to fight him.

His followers have been commissioned to heal and expel spirits. And we are going to do it with our best goodwill, but the experience that "we cannot" is repeated is not achieved. "Because this kind of demons cannot be expelled except by prayer" (Mk 9, 14-29). "Everything is possible for those who have faith," Jesus assures us. But our faith is small and we have to pray: "Increase our faith" (Lk 17, 5).

When the most difficult moments come to us, the moments of bewilderment, of doubting everything, when fear appears, our temptation is to "fall asleep" and abandon the insistent prayer that can give us light and strength to continue until the end. "Watch and pray that you will not fall into temptation" (Mt 26:41).

In short: our mind and our heart are quite far from those of God and his Son. And what we can achieve with our poor intentions and strengths ... is not too much. "Without me you cannot do anything" (Jn 15, 5).

Jesus is the one who has "sought" the Kingdom of God and his justice ... and has received with him everything else. Jesus is the one who "asked" to "let this chalice pass from me, but may your will be done." And it has been heard. Jesus is the one who has "called", shouting, "why have you abandoned me?" And the Father has responded.

In the darkness of midnight, in the darkness of Good Friday, the Light came on. The tremendous closed door of the sepulcher was open, and he got up (resurrected) to give us the Bread of Life.

This is our security and confidence not to get tired of praying, and keep asking: «Father, make us like him; pour out on us the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of your Son, so that we may know how to pray according to your thoughts, so that we are right to take your paths. Give us, then, the Holy Spirit ... and we don't need to ask for anything else.

"Heavenly Father, I trust that if I persist in prayer and obedience, you will fill me with the Holy Spirit to instill in me the character of your Son Jesus." Amen
