Ciegos

Lc 18, 35-43

En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús se acercaba a Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado a un lado del camino, pidiendo limosna. Al oír que pasaba gente, preguntó qué era aquello, y le explicaron que era Jesús el nazareno, que iba de camino. Entonces él comenzó a gritar: "¡Jesús, hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!" Los que iban adelante lo regañaban para que se callara, pero él se puso a gritar más fuerte: "¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!"

Entonces Jesús se detuvo y mandó que se lo trajeran. Cuando estuvo cerca, le preguntó: "¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?" Él le contestó: "Señor, que vea". Jesús le dijo: "Recobra la vista; tu fe te ha curado".

Enseguida el ciego recobró la vista y lo siguió, bendiciendo a Dios. Y todo el pueblo, al ver esto, alababa a Dios

As Jesus approached Jericho
a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging,
and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening.
They told him,
"Jesus of Nazareth is passing by."
He shouted, "Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!"
The people walking in front rebuked him,
telling him to be silent,
but he kept calling out all the more,
"Son of David, have pity on me!"
Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him;
and when he came near, Jesus asked him,
"What do you want me to do for you?"
He replied, "Lord, please let me see."
Jesus told him, "Have sight; your faith has saved you."
He immediately received his sight
and followed him, giving glory to God.
When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God.

Meditacion:

Este evangelio nos deja algo bien claro: La fe no depende de la buena salud.

Era ciego pero tenía las ideas muy claras. Había oído hablar de Jesús de Nazaret, el descendiente del rey David, que hacía milagros en toda Galilea. Y él quería “ver”. Por eso, cuando le informaron que Jesús iba a pasar por allí, el corazón le dio un vuelco y comenzó a gritar con todas sus fuerzas. ¡Era la oportunidad de su vida! Cuando consiguió estar frente a frente con el Mesías no fue con rodeos; le pidió lo que necesitaba: "¡Señor, que vea!". Fue, como se dice, al grano: "Mira, Señor, lo que me pasa es esto...".

El Papa Francisco ha hablado de esta cualidad de la oración que va al grano e insiste sin desanimarse, y ha explicado que es entonces cuando los milagros suceden. Ya era la hora de cerrar la iglesia, pero aquel pobre padre pedía desesperado la salud de su hijita moribunda en el hospital: se quedó toda la noche rezando delante de la puerta del templo. En la mañana, al regresar a casa, le contaron la gran noticia: “tu hija está sana”.

Pero el relato del ciego de Jericó no acaba en la curación. Luego fue a comunicar esa experiencia a todo el pueblo. Había nacido un apóstol. Y consiguió que aquella gente, al verlo, alabara a Dios.

“Amado Cristo, sana todas mis cegueras, te lo ruego, para contemplarte con los ojos de mi alma y llegar a conocerte bien para poder disfrutar de tu verdad y tu presencia.” Amen

He was blind but had very clear ideas. He had heard of Jesus of Nazareth, the descendant of King David, who worked miracles throughout Galilee. And he wanted to "see." Therefore, when they informed him that Jesus was going to pass through there, his heart skipped a beat and he began to shout with all his might. It was the opportunity of his life! When he got face to face with the Messiah it was not bluntly; He asked him what he needed: "Lord, let him see!" It was, as they say, to the point: "Look, Lord, what happens to me is this ...".

Pope Francis has spoken of this quality of prayer that goes to the point and insists without being discouraged, and has explained that it is then that miracles happen. It was time to close the church, but that poor father desperately asked for the health of his dying little daughter in the hospital: he stayed all night praying in front of the temple door. In the morning, when they returned home, they told him the great news: "Your daughter is healthy."

But the story of the blind man of Jericho does not end in healing. Then he went to communicate that experience to all the people. An apostle was born. And he got those people, seeing him, to praise God.

"Beloved Christ, heal all my blindnesses, I beg you, to contemplate you with the eyes of my soul and to get to know you well so that you can enjoy your truth and your presence." Amen
