Lc 19, 1-10

GospelLK 19:1-10
At that time Jesus came to Jericho and intended to pass through the town.
Now a man there named Zacchaeus,
who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man,
was seeking to see who Jesus was;
but he could not see him because of the crowd,
for he was short in stature.
So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree in order to see Jesus,
who was about to pass that way.
When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said,
“Zacchaeus, come down quickly,
for today I must stay at your house.”
And he came down quickly and received him with joy.
When they saw this, they began to grumble, saying,
“He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner.”
But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord,
“Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor,
and if I have extorted anything from anyone
I shall repay it four times over.”
And Jesus said to him,
“Today salvation has come to this house
because this man too is a descendant of Abraham.
For the Son of Man has come to seek
and to save what was lost.”

Meditacion:
Amen

The truth is that Zacchaeus had everything ... he was the chief of tax collectors, that is, the bill had lots. Imagine today a corrupt banker and we will have a fairly approximate idea of Zacchaeus. The ticket flowed, He lived an easy and trouble-free life but still wanted to visit Jesus ... curiosity? Or a soul crying to meet the King of Kings?
"Zacchaeus, come down at once, because today I have to stay in your house," says the Master. Because today? Why do you ask for accommodation? Everything seems casual, but that phrase hides the secret of two men looking for each other. Jesus who comes to save who was lost in the midst of his riches. And a man who doesn't know how to straighten his life.
Like Zacchaeus, many saints began their journey to Christ being sinners, but somehow they wanted to know the Lord. Tomás Merton, Trappist monk, mystic and writer of the twentieth century, was a young man who lived without guidance. According to his autobiography, "The mountain of seven circles" drank a lot, wasted money and was involved in various illegal relationships. But he was also a seeker. Thanks to the guidance of various people, Merton managed to see Jesus and there everything changed for him.
Another seeker of the modern era was Dorothy Day. A young idealist, who longed for a more just society, for which she turned to politics and the economy to find solutions. He led a bohemian lifestyle, had an abortion, then lived with another man and was a single mother. Finally, she met God and became a tireless activist and defender of the social doctrine of the Church.
If you had known Thomas or Dorothy before his conversion, would you have thought that they were people who sought God? Or would you have ruled it out for the kind of life it led? Remember that we cannot judge anyone by their external behavior. Like Zacchaeus, Thomas Merton and Dorothy Day, many people may be looking for something, or Someone, that gives meaning to their lives.
So, if you know a person who carries a sin behavior or has self-destructive addictions, do not distance yourself from it. You could be the one who takes her to know the Lord! And that can happen if you make friends with someone and simply show him what Jesus means to you. Or maybe if you lend him a spiritual book or suggest that he watch a Christian movie. It can even happen if you invite him to come to Mass with you.
God wants everyone who looks for him to find him, and he could use you to show him the way.
"Lord and my God, give me the grace to recognize those who are looking for you." Amen
