Lc 21, 12-19

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Los perseguirán y los apresarán, los llevarán a los tribunales y a la cárcel, y los harán comparecer ante reyes y gobernantes por causa mía. Con esto ustedes darán testimonio de mí.

Grábense bien que no tienen que preparar de antemano su defensa, porque yo les daré palabras sabias, a las que no podrá resistir ni contradecir ningún adversario de ustedes.

Los traicionarán hasta sus padres y hermanos, sus parientes y amigos. Matarán a algunos de ustedes, y todos los odiarán por causa mía. Sin embargo, ni un cabello de su cabeza perecerá. Si se mantienen firmes, conseguirán la vida''.

Jesus said to the crowd:
"They will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents,
brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives."

Meditacion:

El evangelista Lucas, al transmitir esos sombríos presagios de Jesús sobre el futuro de sus discípulos, no deja pasar la ocasión de exhortar a la acción evangelizadora: para el discípulo entusiasta, el juicio será una oportunidad para dar testimonio. De paso, recuerda a sus lectores la presencia de Jesús en medio de los suyos (él les inspirará la palabra oportuna) y la providencia amorosa del Padre (que mira hasta por el último de sus cabellos). Por un lado, el discípulo que es juzgado por haber vivido de acuerdo con su fe no necesita grandes autoapologías; su vida misma, aquello por lo que es perseguido, debiera ser su más elocuente, irrefutable defensa.

Si caminamos en la gracia de Dios no importa nuestra denominacion, nuestra vida habla por nosotros.

Por otro, Dios se cuida de sus hijos, en cuyos brazos paternales descansan tranquilos. Ya previamente había advertido: “no temáis a los que matan el cuerpo pero no pueden hacer nada más” (Lc 12,4). Y no es que el evangelista sea un neoplatónico despreciador de la materia, del cuerpo de carne; él cree en la creación y la resurrección. Lo que le importa es recordarnos que nuestra más íntima identidad personal la tiene Dios en sus manos. Mientras él “nos piensa” y “nos nombra”, sostiene nuestra existencia.

“Amado Señor, te ruego que me concedas tu fortaleza para ser discípulo tuyo y oponerme a todo lo engañoso y pecaminoso que ofrece el mundo.” Amen

The evangelist Luke, in transmitting those bleak omens of Jesus about the future of his disciples, does not miss the opportunity to exhort evangelizing action: for the enthusiastic disciple, judgment will be an opportunity to bear witness. In passing, he reminds his readers of the presence of Jesus in the midst of his own (he will inspire them the right word) and the loving providence of the Father (who looks through the last of his hair). On the one hand, the disciple who is judged for having lived according to his faith does not need great autoapologies; his very life, that which he is persecuted for, should be his most eloquent, irrefutable defense.

If we walk in the grace of God no matter our denomination, our life speaks for us.

On the other, God takes care of his children, in whose fatherly arms they rest peacefully. He had previously warned: "Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot do anything else" (Lk 12,4). And it is not that the evangelist is a Neoplatonic despiser of matter, of the body of flesh; He believes in creation and resurrection. What matters to him is to remind us that our most intimate personal identity is held by God in his hands. While he "thinks" and "names us," he sustains our existence.

"Beloved Lord, I beg you to grant me your strength to be your disciple and to oppose all the deceitful and sinful things the world offers." Amen
