Mc 2, 23-28

GospelMK 2:23-28
As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath,
his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain.
At this the Pharisees said to him,
“Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?”
He said to them,
“Have you never read what David did
when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry?
How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest
and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat,
and shared it with his companions?”
Then he said to them,
“The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.
That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”

Meditacion:
Amen

There are people so obedient to God that in the end they go against their clearest will. They are so strict in complying with the norms and laws of the Church that they leave love, mercy, forgiveness, understanding and respect for the person in the second place. They are like the Pharisees who gave more importance to the Law than to their values, because for them what was written and commanded was what had to be done and fulfilled forgetting the Word of the Lord: “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me". The Law and its values are at the service of the person, freedom, joy and community. Beware of fundamentalisms, moralisms and ritualisms! All extremes are dangerous; hence the importance of this great principle of Jesus' behavior.
Incarnate Jesus sought good, happiness, joy, peace for all, and the unity of the community. He says: "I have come so that they may have life and it is in abundance." Jesus always privileges life and insists on the value of the person; a value that must be recovered today, first against a religion so organized that it is a machine of exclusion, and second against a society that privileges the strong and excludes the weak.
If this principle of Jesus guided the life of the first Christians in an exclusive society and religion, it must also guide the lives of Christians in our communities and societies. We cannot remain calm seeing how children, youth, adults and the elderly are marginalized, excluded, mistreated and ignored. A Christian and a Christian community should raise their voices and act accordingly with the Word of Jesus: "The Sabbath has been made for man, and not man for Saturday."
“Jesus, I thank you because you want to make me grow in Christian love. Teach me to live according to your law of love. ”Amen
