Mc 3, 31-35

GospelMK 3:31-35
The mother of Jesus and his brothers arrived at the house.
Standing outside, they sent word to Jesus and called him.
A crowd seated around him told him,
“Your mother and your brothers and your sisters
are outside asking for you.”
But he said to them in reply,
“Who are my mother and my brothers?”
And looking around at those seated in the circle he said,
“Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of God
is my brother and sister and mother.”
Standing outside, they sent word to Jesus and called him.
A crowd seated around him told him,
“Your mother and your brothers and your sisters

But he said to them in reply,
“Who are my mother and my brothers?”
And looking around at those seated in the circle he said,
“Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of God
is my brother and sister and mother.”

Meditacion:
Amen

Today's Gospel passage is well known to us. Adherence to Jesus establishes between him and us the noblest kinship: that of faith. He had a very special reason for that option, because, according to Mc 3.21, "his men had come to take him because they considered him upset," and Jn 7.5 states that "his brothers did not believe in him."
We know little about Jesus' family; and all research on her has been involved in doctrinal controversies, regarding how to make the "brothers of Jesus" compatible with the commonly admitted perpetual virginity of Mary. The matter did not occupy the interest of the evangelists; They did not try to clarify it to us and I do not think it is worth opening a debate on that point. What they underline is that whoever chooses a prophetic life, totally consecrated to the cause of God, often clashes with misunderstandings, even among those closest to them.
Jesus said it in radical terms: "Who does not put off (" hates ") his father, his mother, wife, children, brothers ... he cannot be my disciple" (Lk 14,26). They are texts that have a lot of autobiography, and Jesus would like them to become a biography of his followers. We are forced to ask ourselves about our degree of adherence to Him. Is He the first in everything, or do we put other things, projects ... ahead of his?
Jesus, beloved, thank you for accepting me as your brother and not being ashamed of being my elder brother, my Lord and Savior. ”Amen
