La barca

Mc 4, 35-41

Un día, al atardecer, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Vamos a la otra orilla del lago”. Entonces los discípulos despidieron a la gente y condujeron a Jesús en la misma barca en que estaba. Iban además otras barcas.

De pronto se desató un fuerte viento y las olas se estrellaban contra la barca y la iban llenando de agua. Jesús dormía en la popa, reclinado sobre un cojín. Lo despertaron y le dijeron: “Maestro, ¿no te importa que nos hundamos?” Él se despertó, reprendió al viento y dijo al mar: “¡Cállate, enmudece!” Entonces el viento cesó y sobrevino una gran calma. Jesús les dijo: “¿Por qué tenían tanto miedo? ¿Aún no tienen fe?” Todos se quedaron espantados y se decían unos a otros: “¿Quién es éste, a quien hasta el viento y el mar obedecen?”

On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples:
“Let us cross to the other side.”
Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was.
And other boats were with him.
A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat,
so that it was already filling up.
Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion.
They woke him and said to him,
“Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
He woke up,
rebuked the wind,
and said to the sea, “Quiet!  Be still!”
The wind ceased and there was great calm.
Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified?
Do you not yet have faith?”
They were filled with great awe and said to one another,
“Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?”

Meditacion:

En el muy conocido pasaje del Evangelio de hoy, leemos que se desató una fuerte tormenta y las olas sacudían la barca donde iban los discípulos, de modo que se llenaba de agua. ¿Qué habrías hecho tú si fueras uno de los discípulos que iban en aquella pequeña barca zarandeada por las olas y azotada por el vendaval? ¿Habrías mantenido la fe pese a semejante peligro?

A veces, las pruebas que nos toca pasar son tan grandes que nos parece imposible soportar un minuto más. En ocasiones como ésas, aunque la razón nos diga que Dios está siempre allí, las emociones nos indican que nos encontramos completamente solos. Todo lo que vemos es que nuestra “barca” de problemas hace agua y está a punto de zozobrar.

Jesús les dice a los apóstoles que allí es donde empieza la fe. Cuando hay muchas preguntas sin respuestas y nada visible que nos sirva de apoyo, entonces es cuando tenemos que decidir: o dejar que las circunstancias nos arrasen y nos abrumen, o confiar en el amor tierno y misericordioso de Dios, que nos ha prometido que jamás nos abandonará.

¿Qué tormentas te hacen perder la fe en Dios? ¿Cómo reaccionas tú cuando la duda o la inseguridad te zarandea como un ventarrón? ¿Qué harías tú si corrieras el peligro de perder tu casa, quedarte sin trabajo o si a tu esposa o a un hijo tuyo le diagnosticaran una enfermedad grave? ¿Recurrirías primero a Jesús consciente de que él está todavía en la barca de tu vida?

Nuestro Padre celestial quiere darnos una fe inquebrantable; una confianza tal en su protección que seamos capaces de superar todo tipo de pruebas o peligros. Naturalmente, seguiremos teniendo las reacciones humanas normales, pero, en lo profundo del corazón, encontraremos aquella paz firme y estable que nos sostendrá contra viento y marea.

La próxima vez que pases por pruebas y dificultades graves de peligro, ira o duda, pon en acción tu fe en Cristo. Acude a él sin demora; pon la situación en sus tiernas y poderosas manos y pídele fortaleza y sabiduría para saber qué hacer. Así, en medio de la tormenta, experimentarás la paz del Señor.

“Jesús santo, Señor, concédeme la confianza de saber que estás siempre conmigo y mi familia, incluso en los momentos más difíciles de mi vida.”

In today's well-known Gospel passage, we read that a strong storm broke out and the waves shook the boat where the disciples went, so that it was filled with water. What would you have done if you were one of the disciples who went in that little boat shaken by the waves and whipped by the gale? Would you have kept the faith despite such danger?

Sometimes, the tests that we have to pass are so great that it seems impossible to endure another minute. On occasions like these, although reason tells us that God is always there, emotions indicate that we are completely alone. All we see is that our "boat" of problems makes water and is about to capsize.

Jesus tells the apostles that this is where faith begins. When there are many unanswered questions and nothing visible to support us, then it is when we have to decide: or let circumstances overwhelm and overwhelm us, or trust in the tender and merciful love of God, who has promised us never will abandon us.

What storms make you lose faith in God? How do you react when doubt or insecurity shakes you like a window? What would you do if you were in danger of losing your home, running out of work or if your wife or a child of yours was diagnosed with a serious illness? Would you first turn to Jesus aware that he is still in the boat of your life?

Our heavenly Father wants to give us unwavering faith; such confidence in their protection that we are able to overcome all kinds of tests or dangers. Naturally, we will continue to have normal human reactions, but, deep in the heart, we will find that firm and stable peace that will sustain us against wind and tide.

The next time you go through trials and serious difficulties of danger, anger or doubt, put your faith in Christ into action. Go to him without delay; Put the situation in your tender and powerful hands and ask for strength and wisdom to know what to do. Thus, in the midst of the storm, you will experience the peace of the Lord.
