Ama a tus enemigos

Mt 5, 43-48

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Han oído que se dijo: Ama a tu prójimo y odia a tu enemigo. Yo, en cambio, les digo: Amen a sus enemigos, hagan el bien a los que los odian y rueguen por los que los persiguen y calumnian, para que sean hijos de su Padre celestial, que hace salir su sol sobre los buenos y los malos, y manda su lluvia sobre los justos y los injustos.

Porque, si ustedes aman a los que los aman, ¿qué recompensa merecen? ¿No hacen eso mismo los publicanos? Y si saludan tan sólo a sus hermanos, ¿qué hacen de extraordinario? ¿No hacen eso mismo los paganos? Sean, pues, perfectos como su Padre celestial es perfecto”.

You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies,
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,

and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers and sisters only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Meditacion:

El Señor sabe cómo somos y cuáles son nuestras luchas y aspiraciones, pero lo que él desea es llevarnos más cerca de su perfección. Reflexionando sobre lo que dijo Jesús, de “amar a los enemigos,” San Cipriano, en el siglo III, alentaba a sus feligreses a poner atención a cómo se relacionaban los unos con los otros. Tomemos en serio sus palabras hoy y pidámosle al Espíritu Santo que nos libre de toda división, celos y orgullo:

“Si quieres alcanzar los premios del cielo, despójate de toda mala intención y refórmate en Cristo. Tienes que quitar las espinas y los abrojos de tu corazón para que la semilla del Señor produzca una cosecha abundante, de manera que la amargura que se ha depositado en tu corazón sea diluida por la dulzura de Cristo. Al recibir el sacramento de la cruz, deja que el madero que endulzó el agua amarga en Mara (Éxodo 15, 25) actúe ahora para endulzar tu corazón.

“Ama a los que odiabas; muéstrate servicial con aquellos a quienes solías envidiar. Imita a los buenos, o al menos alégrate con ellos en su virtud; en lugar de impedirles el paso, únete a ellos con el vínculo de la fraternidad. Porque solamente se te perdonan los pecados cuando tú has perdonado a los demás, y luego Dios te recibirá en paz.

“Si quieres que tus pensamientos y obras sean iluminados desde lo alto, has de considerar las cosas que son divinas y rectas. Piensa en el paraíso, al que Caín no puede entrar porque mató a su hermano por envidia; piensa en el ámbito celestial, al que Dios admite solo a quienes tienen el corazón y la mente claramente definidos. Considera que solo los que abogan por la paz pueden llamarse hijos de Dios; y que todos estamos bajo la mirada amorosa de Dios, siguiendo adelante con la vida y con Dios mismo, que todo lo observa y lo juzga. Y si ahora deleitamos a quien nos ve por nuestras acciones, y deseamos siempre agradarle, nos mostramos dignos de su favor y al final lo contemplaremos en toda su gloria.” Sigamos, pues, el consejo de San Cipriano y cambia tu manera de pensar, adopta nuevos deseos y sobre todo decídete a amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas.

“Señor y Salvador mío, quebranta la dureza de mi ser por el fruto de tu cruz, para que yo no desee otra cosa que complacerte a ti en lo que diga y haga por mis hermanos.” Amen

The Lord knows how we are and what our struggles and aspirations are, but what he wants is to bring us closer to his perfection. Reflecting on what Jesus said, of "loving enemies," St. Cyprian, in the third century, encouraged his parishioners to pay attention to how they related to each other. Let's take his words seriously today and ask the Holy Spirit to free us from all division, jealousy and pride:

“If you want to reach the awards of heaven, get rid of all bad intentions and reinforce yourself in Christ. You have to remove the thorns and the briers from your heart so that the seed of the Lord produces an abundant harvest, so that the bitterness that has been deposited in your heart is diluted by the sweetness of Christ. Upon receiving the sacrament of the cross, let the wood that sweetened the bitter water in Mara (Exodus 15, 25) act now to sweeten your heart.

“Love those you hated; Be helpful to those you used to envy. Imitate the good, or at least rejoice with them in their virtue; Instead of blocking them, join them with the fraternity bond. Because sins are forgiven only when you have forgiven others, and then God will receive you in peace.

“If you want your thoughts and works to be illuminated from above, you have to consider the things that are divine and straight. Think of paradise, which Cain cannot enter because he killed his brother out of envy; Think of the heavenly realm, to which God admits only those who have a clearly defined heart and mind. Believes that only those who advocate for peace can be called children of God; and that we are all under the loving gaze of God, moving forward with life and with God himself, who observes everything and judges it. And if we now delight those who see us for our actions, and we always want to please him, we are worthy of his favor and in the end we will contemplate him in all his glory. ” Let us then follow the advice of St. Cyprian and change the way you think, adopt new desires and, above all, decide to love God above all things.

“Lord and my Savior, break the hardness of my being for the fruit of your cross, so that I do not want anything other than to please you in what I say and do for my brothers.” Amen
